USM gave up only 288 yards per game last season. That includes games versus Tulane (top 30 offense last five seasons, ask Southern about them), Louisville (Heisman candidate at QB), Bama, OK State, and Penn State.

And you think that JSU will walk out of the Rock with a WIN???

Tulane, OK State and Bama couldn't score in a HO-house. And I coulda sworn that Penn State beat USM by about 40 points.

Penn State beat USM 38-20.

Tulane averaged 29 points and 425 yards per game. Again, ask Southern about Tulane's offense--they decided to replace Orlando with a TU assistant.

USM held a Louisiville team that averaged 35 points per game to 24 points.

The Eagles have (and have had) a great defense. I respect them enough as a Tulanian, and perhaps JSU should as well.

The step up between I-A and I-AA is HUGE. That can not be underestimated. Starter for starter, the quality is similar. However, USM will be able to rotate more linemen and throw three to four backs at JSU, where the Tigers won't have that kind of quality depth.

The last two times that I remember the SWAC vs. CUSA have come out to an aggregate 99-7, with Louisville hurting Grambling and Tulane crushing Southern. Check that: Tulane with its worst defense EVER holding Southern to 7.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if JSU scores more than one TD vs. USM.
 
Tulane's defense did not stop Southern. Southern offense stopped S.U. turning the bowl over 5 times in the red zone. I will give Tulane's offense last year however props. That final score is very misleading. Tulane did not "crush" Southern........Looking forward to that 8/31 playing date.

I never said that Tulane's defense stopped Southern. I said that Tulane beat Southern despite having the worst defense in Tulane history. If you turn the ball over five times against the system that TU ran last season, you really can't call yourself an offensive juggernaut.

If you think JSU is only one deep, you are sadly mistaken. JSU is 2 deep at every position especially on both sides of the line. We are going to match up with you there. You will be surprised. And we all know that JSU has USM out-manned at the skill positions. By the time you figure out that big slow Nix is not going to run the ball like you want him too, its going to be too late.

JSU is going to beat USM 24-17. You havent seen a QB like Kent. Look at Kent, and then look at Ragon and tell me who is the better QB.

First and foremost, I am not a USM alumnus are supporter.
I've seen USM and JSU play, and I can tell you that USM is deeper than JSU. EVERYONE is two deep at ever position, but the drop-off from #1 to #2 is greater at a I-AA school than at a I-A school. I-A schools have about 20 more scholarships to hand out.

As for the Kent/Ragone comparisons, I have to stiffle a chuckle.

USM shut down Shaun King his Junior and Senior seasons--this is the senior season that saw Shaun set the NCAA single season passing efficiency record. I would NOT sell their defense short.

Any attempt to disparage Derrick Nix (is he ever going to graduate, USM fans???) is not recommended. The guy's a gamer. He's a tough man to take down.

If USM gets anything out of their QB (they have solid WRs), they should have the third team in during the fourth quarter.

USM is going to try to establish big slow untalented Nix and that is going to be the death of them. By the time Andrews gets through introducing himself to Nix, Nix will know he has been in a real football game.

Actually we don't need JSU to generate interest, we needed a tuneup before Big 10 champ Illinois
visits Hattiesburg on Sept. 7

The decision to schedule JSU went something like this. Lets see, do we schedule Louisiana-Monroe
pay them $125,000, draw 28,000 @ $20 a head, clear
around $400,000 and win by 30-40, or do we schedule JSU, pay them $125,000, draw 35,000 @ $25
a head, clear $750,000 and win by 30-40. Hmmmm

not a very good football team then. Just 3 years off probation we had only 2 players drafted the preceeding 3 years and only 2 drafted the next 2.
By contrast we have had 10 players drafted the past 3 years and another 7 players sign free agent contracts. We have more than twice as many
players in NFL camps as the Tigers. What that says
to me is that our talent is simply better. This is not 1987. I know you wish it was, but believe me, It's gonna get ugly in a hurry.

If they are really giving 36 points, take it and run to the bank. JSU has a chance to win this game outright and only a fool would believe that USM would beat JSU by more.
