A Winston county family says three brothers and a friend, leaving the Jackson State/Southern Mississippi game were dragged from their car and beaten on the school's campus. The family says it is a hate crime that is unbelievable and that no arrests have been made. Campus police say they are investigating the incident.
Twenty five year old Christie Davis of Louisville says,"Blood flowing, clothes covered in blood.."
Davis is describing what her husband Eric looked like when he was brought into their home 4 a.m. Sunday morning. Her 28 year old husband, his brothers, 36 year old Darren and 32 year old Tyrone and their friend 36 year old Dan Whitfield had attended the Jackson state/Southern Miss game.
They told family members they left after half time and while stopped in traffic on the campus, they say that a mob of students including Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity members and others surrounded the car and began shouting racial remarks.
Christie Davis says, "You want some of this n-----? you know, I hate n------ and still nobody has said anything to them and here they just jump in the car window and start beating them."
The Louisville family members were told Eric was dragged from car. His brother Darren jumped out to help and was hit in the head with a beer bottle.
Sister Angela Coleman says, "They beat them on to the ground. There were people on the site and they called 911."
Eric Davis suffered a concussion and was released from Forrest General Hospital. But was again rushed to a Winston county hospital upon returning home.
A blood stain remains on the drivers side door of Davis's car. Family members were told that after the crowd converged on the car, University Police said that there were too many people to arrest."
University Police Chief Bob Hopkins says, "We're looking for anybody who may have been in that area some time around 9:00 or 9:30 Saturday evening. If they saw anything or witnessed any kind of disturbance, if they would call the university police department."
Lestine Davis Hall, the mother of the beating victims says, "It's racist. All my children are great. They were well raised. They went to college to try to make something out of themselves and this is just terrible."
The family says they are shocked that in this day and time four men attending a football game would fall victims to the racial hatred of a drunken mob of youngsters.
The Davis family has retained Jackson attorney Ramell Cotton. Tuesday they are scheduled to meet with Uiversity Police, who say they are in the process of questioning witnesses.
