As if young folks aren't crying foul at Imus. That's an excuse.

Do you really think those girls on that basketball team really appreciate being singled out and called "nappy head hos" just because some rappers rap using that word in their songs?

 Like I said.......................Drop it.
Let mofo's say anything they want because some damm rappers say it.:p
Rappers are the only influence in Black Culture today.
They are the reason we should not be offended.:p

Ya'll act like RAPPERS are making all the laws for black culture.
Bottom line is people were saying byotch and ho LOOOOOONG before the Sugar Hill Gang got rap kicked off back in the day.

Every heard of PIMPS.
Ever seen a "Black Classic" movie...............Foxy Brown, Sheba Baby, Uptown Saturday Night, Let's do it again, WILLIE Dynomite, etc.

Hell............I watched Willie Dynomite this weekend on TV1.
Gorden from Sesame Street was PIMPIN, PIMPIN, PIMPIN..................Years before RAP or MIXING was even uttered.

Blamming all this on RAPPERS is an excuse.:p

I never said they appreciated it nor did I say that it was appropriate. My point is simply that they have been called ho's and worse by their own people. And nobody raised a stink about it. But, we get bent all out of whack when a white man does it. As if his "sin" is worse. Hypocritical.

Either you have been locked in a room all your life or you just want to argue.:emlaugh:
Moving on. :emlaugh:

You are the one with the excuses... just because rappers say it does not give Imus the "excuse" to use it.

Who said rappers are the ONLY one's who used those words? They are perhaps the most vocal when it comes to using that kind of language, but as stagg pointed out, they are certainly not the only people that use it.

Black actors, young and old, used it and still do.
Why aren't they being singled out for using those words? They're much more of an influence than some "entertainment" show host.

If Tom Joyner or Tony Brown slipped up and said "honkey" or "whitebread" or whatever racist term on their show, would we all be clamoring for them to be fired in one fell swoop?
Should all that they've accomplished be pulled right out from under them because of a few words?

Jessie Jackson called Jews "hymies". What happened to him? Nothing. Was he fired from Rainbow Push for making this racist statement?

Al Sharpton falsely accused several White men of rape, yet he has the right to sit in judgement of someone else? And to top that off, he falsely accused the Duke Lacrosse men of rape.
Who's holding him accountable for his actions? He's yet to make a public apology to either party.

He who is without sin.......!

Hypocrisy at it's worst if you ask me.

Is that all? What was that suppose to accomplish?

Symbolic.

Ya'll have to understand.......................The day's of the big boycotting of record labels are over.
It worked with INTERSCOPE/DEATH ROW because those were 2 stand alone compaines.

Interscope was the GIANT that protesters went after to stop distributors from carring these cd's.
Companies could not take the heat from shareholders............Warner Bros, Viacom, Etc.

FAST FOWARD TO 2007.
Just who in the heck can you protest that will do some good.:(
These Rappers are doing what the hell they want because they controll virtually ALL ASPECT OF THEIR MUSIC NOW.

People can't put pressure on Warner Bros, etc., anymore because they are not the contract holders anymore.
These rappers control the music and the distribution of their product.

What you gonna do....................Go stand outside NELLYVILLE protesting and be the next mofo clowned on the next CD/VIDEO?

Or worse................Get cap's peeled off at your arse from a vacant hood building while your doing it?

Some rappers call our women Tricks, Btiches, and Hoes all the time. Until we can stop our own people from from disrespecting ourselves and our women, why should others refrain? Its sad, but i don't see anything wrong with it until we stop doing it to ourselves. So, until we can stop being ni**as, tricks, btiches, and hoes to ourselves its okay for others to use it.

I could not take issue with that. it does seem hard for us to do it and laugh at it and think nothing of it as long as it is one of ours, but get so bent out of shape when it is one of them. It would be nice if we all had thick skin and could take things in context, but i know that is unrealistic and so you have these type situations.

I must say, though, it's not like blacks get a "pass" now days for saying something that offends a "protected class". Just look at Tim Hardaway; DAT mug GOT HAMMERED for his gay blasts which, to me, were way more direct and to the point than this guy's comments in the context he said em. So remember, the more we raise the bar, the more likely it is to come back to bite you. Pretty soon we will probably all be walking around with public relations I-PODs to help us choose our words carefully so as not to be sued or fired.

maybe one day TSPN will get to the point where everything you type is filtered,,, which in a way it is now.

So, are you suggesting that we ignore the negative influence that hip hop has on our culture because "we can't do anything about it"? And, at the same time, call for Imus' resignation for something comparatively benign?

Hopefully, that is not what you are suggesting. If so, I hope you can admit that stance is hypocritical.

That's all.

Is that all? What was that suppose to accomplish?

Like Stagga said it was symbolic. Sharpton has also tried to get the FCC to come down hard radio stations that play music that is violent/sexist/adult and tried to convince some rappers to make changes.

Dude ........................ You just want to argue.:(
Nobody is suggesting shat...................You putting words in cyberspace that NOBODY has even spoken.
Your sense of understanding and adding 2 plus 2 can't be this bad.

Carry on......................I've been down this endless merry-go-round with posters before and quite frankly, I don't need the headache.:mrt:

F-IT........................They Nappy Headed Ho's and IMUS had every right to say what he said because some black rappers/singers/actors, community people say these words also.:smh:

Drop it................We don't have a right to be offended even if we DON't refer to women as ho's and byotches.:smh:

Screw it................ People have ignored the negatave "part" of hip hop forever..........NOBODY HAS EVER SPOKEN OUT. :smh:

From now on everytime a WHITE person say's something like this, I'm gonna stand up for his/her right to say it based off what our black leaders, (RAPPERS), do.:smh:

He damm near got "SHOT" 105 shut down in NY single handedly.
Put so much pressure on the landlord, he didn't renew their lease in the building.

 Great visual Stagg. LOL!!

You raise an interesting point. I was not aware the business had change in such a manner. I thought rappers ESPECIALLY still did not control their own destinies. To your point though, what does it say for OUR RAPPERS who don't even have got-dayum common curtesy to back off of offensive lyrics, yet expect all non-black people not to offend blacks in any way?

see,, this is precisely why in past debates on this type stuff i've contended that there is no way you can adequately regulate what people say because it's just too subjective, so the only way to neutralize what people say is to have thicker skins.

I hate to say this, but you are right. No one makes a big deal if a black comedian, actor or uncle down the street says it.

I can agree with what most people are saying. I just say if it was my sister or daughter that I would be offended in some sort of way. His comments would have not seemed so bad if he would have not said anything about the girls being "NAPPY HEADED"....That to me is singling out certain individuals and that is where most of my problem with what he said comes in to play.

The music industry is controlled by the "da white man", and most consumers of rap are white America. Those same white people who control the music industry are the ones putting this kind of music out there commercially and you have seen what they can do just look at how rappers like KRS-One, Nas, Talib Kwali, Mos Def, Da Roots, and I could go on barely get play on the airways.

The FCC are hypocrites if something is not done in my opinion because if Imus can say those type of things then Howard Stern should be able to say whatever he wants to say on his radio show on nationally syndicated radio stations all over.

Me personally, If I don't answer to it, tis not I...:)

I don't see where Al Sharpton nor Jesse Jackson have to always be OUR media spokesperson. If anything, Rutgers University should lead this one and apologies be made to THEM.

The Reverends to me don't focus on what they were ordained to spread. That's MY opinion, so don't go off on a tangent because it's not gonna change......;)

,,,,,,, classic examples there chief,, oh my goodness. for sharpton of all people to be poking this guy in da chest,,, wow. I caught bits and pieces of the interview here on Paul Finebaum. Sharpton was sounding mighty pompus and holier than though in judgement of this guy, but wow WHAT ABOUT his (Sharpton's) gaffs? Was this guy on his toes enough to fire back at Sharpton with those facts? that would have been awesome theatre there,, goodness.

again,, we have to be carefull. you make so many rules and set so many dayum standards or presedents that they are bound to bite you one day.

According to CNN, NBC is suspending it's broadcast of the "Imus In The Morning" show for two weeks starting April 16th.

NEW YORK -- MSNBC will suspend its television simulcast of radio shock-jock Don Imus' morning talk show for two weeks after the host called members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team "a bunch of nappy-headed hos," the network announced Monday.

Despite apologies from Imus on Friday and Monday, the suspension will start April 16, the network said in a written statement.

"Don Imus has expressed profound regret and embarrassment and has made a commitment to listen to all of those who have raised legitimate expressions of outrage," it said.

"In addition, his dedication -- in his words -- to change the discourse on his program moving forward, has confirmed for us that this action is appropriate. Our future relationship with Imus is contingent on his ability to live up to his word."

Two of the nation's biggest media companies -- CBS Corp. and NBC Universal -- will ultimately decide the fate of Imus' daily program.

Exactly. God forbid that Tom Joyner or one of his equals slips up and says something racist to another person or group.
There goes his career and a great entertainer.

This racial crap is getting totally out of control.

One more thing, Jackson also accused the Duke players of rape. He's yet to give them a public apology.
Again, the pot calling the kettle black.

Sharpton and Jackson should be the last two people calling for this man's job.
