RIP Circle City Classic

Morgan State and Miles??? That's who they picked to play?? What kinda crowd were they expecting??

As much as these Classice want to say that the event is bigger than the teams involved, that's BS... The participating teams always matter.

Im 48 and I remember going to this game as a 5th grader. AAMU vs Grambling. It was my first time seeing Eddie Robinson in person. The game was sold out. Ive been to the CCC maybe 5 other times and each time it simply went downhill from the previous time.

It's no ones fault but their own. That board messed that game up years ago and now this is their fruition from it.

SAD BUT TRUE!!! Once they started having less and less of the schools who really drew crowds, attendance and interest went into a downward spiraled. I can only surmise that they stopped getting the draws due to either lack of funds or an unwillingness to pay them what they were worth.

Its ALWAYS the organizers who kill the classic. Not talking about fly-by-night classics, I'm talking classics with a long-standing-tradition.

Oh well....it was great while it lasted.....mostly.

I think the organizers took the classic for granted and thought it would always be a draw (even when putting in little effort to secure big brand names). I wonder for how many years were schools in the negative for being in the classic, as I don't think the classic organizers even attempted to keep the payouts inline with inflation and to make sure each of the schools were actually making money off given all the expenses.

JSU AD broke down the balance sheet about the Southern Heritage Classic and one would think that the promoter would had ensure schools was not going into the hole for being in the classic.
