Rev. Joseph Lowery, an iconic Godfather in the civil rights community, says Black leaders must consider “the political realities†of what President Obama can and cannot do and the racism that he is facing before they arbitrarily take to criticizing him.

Lowery predicts Obama will do more for Blacks in his second term:

“I think he might be bolder in his second term because he’s not going to get a third,†Lowery chuckled. “I’d hope he’d be bolder, move forward, maybe braver, be badder, give some dangerous leadership, and take some chances that he might not have taken in his first term.

Asked if that means establishing a special jobs program that could lower the Black unemployment rate or that he might take walks through inner-city neighborhoods, Lowery responded, “All of the above.â€

Rev. Lowery is not doing Obama any favors trying to blame racism on Obama's failures. Although I like Obama as a person, I have come to accept the fact that he is not a good President. The "green" jobs and the second "stimulus" jobs have not reach the black community. The unemployment rate proves it. I have no ideal why he thinks "green" jobs and construction jobs will stimulate the economy. Every government attempt to boost the economy has failed. Once Cash for Clunkers went away, auto sales plummeted. Once the $8,000 first time buyer credit went away, housing sales plummeted all over again.

But we can't blame everything on Obama. The over-priced housing market that occured for most of the last decade is the real reason why housing market sucks today. I also believe the real reason why black unemployment is high is because some black people have not adapted well to a different job market. There are not many jobs at a plant, factory, or shipping center like it was decades ago.

So basically you contradicted yourself. How are you gonna say that you're convinced that the man ain't a good President but then list the real reasons why shat ain't getting done?

Ford, General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) and Chrysler all reported profits for the first quarter, the first time since 2004 that the Big Three posted profitable quarters. Ford reported its best first quarter profit since 1998 and analysts expect a slight improvement in second quarter earnings.

I don't see why the Rev. brings up the race argument when it was not an issue in his being elected. Obama got elected by the "majority"! Blacks only represent 12% of the population and 30% of us are active voters, so he got a whopping 4% from that demo-graph. Where did the rest of that come from? You win by getting 50% plus one, so the majority of Americans voted for him. To continue to pull the race card in situations where it doesn't exist, numbs the argument when it does exist.

I agree 100% with you on that. With all the felons in the hood, we didn't put him there. Besides, folks for get it is not about him doing for us, we benefit when America does well. When jobs are created, we work. When states have money HBCU's get more money. I am tired of that he ain't making life better for brothers and sisters.

ummm no. not from the feds but that ain't his fault. Congress cut that shat :shat:.

From all appearances Obama feels little kinship with American blacks; he is absolutely an Afro-centric black man. His past has virtually nothing in common with the American civil rights movement that has so affected the majority of American blacks - their struggles were never his struggles and that's why he hasn't been driven to somehow improve conditions for "his people" because they really aren't - his people.

Why do you folks keep saying this ignorant mess? POTUS wife is from the southside of Chicago. His kids are African American. How can he not understand black America? Hasn't he been married to his wife for an extended period of time? Doesn't he interact wife his wife's brother, mother and other relatives?

Cee, think about it....you or I cannot understand the hood mentality that is practiced by a lot of African Americans. I grew up around it, I witnessed it, but I can't justify or identify with doing the things they do like slanging and smoking. Obama is an Ivy League product, he simply can't identify with something he has not been through. I remember this white dude said the dumbest thing to me years ago when I was in the army...."Kirby, I saw that movie Boyz N Da' Hood", now I know where black people are coming from." I told him I didn't know whether to feel sorry for him or punch him in the face. I then went on to expose how asinine a statement that was that he made. He then thought about it and apologized. I know white dudes that are married to sistas and vice versa, and even that doesn't make you understand what someone has been through or their struggles. It's kinda like being in a fraternity or sorority in the black community....as a Nupe, I can't get you to understand a lot of things about what I went to to become one, but a Que or Alpha understands completely since they have been through similar experiences.

Just because a cat has kittens in an oven, that doesn't make them biscuits.

I believe Rev Lowery is right on point. If we can get him back in that seat, he will not have to walk that tight rope because this would be his last term and wouldn't need to be concerned about re-election. Obama has tactfully created conditions to help blacks in so many disciplines in his first terms but it is up to us to capitalize on them. Many people conveniently or out of ignorance forget about the three branches of government and limitations of the Executive branch.....Oft times, we need to be paying more attention to the legislative and judicial areas....

I don't completely agree with that from the standpoint that there isn't (at least in my opinion) one single candidate from Obama's party or from the Republican party that is going to be able to beat him come 2012. It would take some divine intervention for Obama to not be re-elected. So there is no reason for him to wait until his second term for him to do more for blacks. This not some Obama bashing that others have done. This is just real talk right here.

You are naive if you believe that a Republican contender will not emerge. I wish you were right though....With the housing and unemployment numbers anything is possible and can go either way.....As we speak polls showing Romney and Obama are running pretty close. I hope like hell their sample is flawed but don't believe they are.......One has to understand what type of mindset and climate we're living in.....

If Obama wanted to do something for blacks, he shouldn't have to wait for a second term. If he felt it was the right thing to do to help remove dictators from other countries who were denying democracy to the people, why doesn't he help blacks in his own backyard?. We, more than any race in this country, have been marginalized and ostracized 100 times over.

Unemployment for blacks in major cities near or exceed 20 percent. Overall black unemployment is 16 or 17 percent. That an epidemic, bro. And these numbers were present before the Republicans took over in Washington.

Look, I want to see the president do well. However, folks are sending a lot of mixed messages here. When the Hispanics, gays and Wall Street were saying they need X, Y and Z there was no cry about Obama was the president of all Americans. When folks demand that something be done to address the plight our people face we get Oh, President Obama is the president for all Americans not just black folks.

I don't get it, man.

You need to do your research before engaging in this type of conversation. Obama has done quite a bit for blacks as well as lower socioeconomic people. In spite of what you and Fox news states, Obama did not create a myriad of problems in our country including black unemployment. However he has done his best to mitigate these issues. You are confused because a lot of black people have a Moses complex when it comes to Obama. :emlaugh: Lastly, it is very common for a president to walk a tight rope in their first term to win a second election and maximize their agenda. The president cannot be too liberal as some would like at this point because he needs the independent constituents. Obama believes in Social Justice and I believe he will be more aggressive if he can get that second term which is the goal. Ever wonder why presidents do things in their last term including giving presidential pardons? There is a method to the madness.........

A list please.

Oh, and how come every time someone brings up a concern or criticism one has to make the assumption they view Fox News, is a Tea Party person or listen to Rush Limbaugh?

I don't consume any of that.

You look it up. Apparently you have lost your rabid mind. :emlaugh:

Because black people are suppose to agree on everything. LOL

Forget Conservative or Democrat.

Stick to the facts.

1. Green jobs is fluff.
2. Forcing people to purchase health insurance and using the IRS as your enforcer is wrong (coming in 2014).
3. Obama didn't create the recession, but he is sure as hell not helping it.
4. The second "stimulus" package barely made a dent in the unemployment rate in the private sector.
5. The little bumps in employment we did experience were likely from temporary government jobs and construction projects.
6. Businesses are not hiring because they either learned how to increased productivity with their already existing workforce or they don't hire because of uncertainty in the economy.
7. After the home buyer tax credit expired, home sales tanked.
8. After cash for clunkers expired, auto sales tanked.

Sorry, it ain't working.

Good points! He might not have helped the everyday American, but he sure looked out for his buddies Goldman Sachs, USB Bank, escalated the wars to help his buddies get rich off of war profiting. If we think the Republicans will make it better, then I have the White House to sell you. The D's & the R's are the same and their purpose is to keep us divided.
