Report: Bonds Failed Amphetamines Test

He can probably hang up the HOF then. Sad. The voters' logic will be, "if he was willing to do amphetamines, he was probably willing to use anabolic steroids".

They'd have to take out most of the players fromthe 70s and 80s if they thought that.

Yeah... but the steroid issue is so emotionally-charged right now that would require a huge PR turnaround (that ain't gonna happen) for Bonds to get in on the first ballot, if ever.

You mentioned the 70s and the 80s... I think it's funny how the exploits of shiftier characters and cheaters from earlier eras are almost looked upon with warm nostalgia in baseball circles. But then again, not too many of those guys were challenging the most coveted records. It gets no bigger than the homerun record in the eyes of baseball purists.

That's true. Pete Rose got by on speed (the drug) but he did not get banned until they found out he was betting.

From article "Bonds did not appeal the positive test, according to the Daily News. That makes him subject to six drug tests by MLB over the next six months. The allegations about steroid use were not sufficient to require drug tests."

I guess he has been clean since then because I can almost bet he was tested over the next six months and if positive we would have definitely heard something by now. It is amazing how we are so fast to throw our own under the bus. The media control our minds. Everything is always negative.

You would be suprised at the number of baseball players that were on speed. It was common for them to take it just to keep up with the vigorous schedule that they have to keep. I would'nt hold it back that they are on some new kind of stuff that simulates amphetimines. There were plenty of others that failed that test also for the first time but you won't hear about them since they are after Bonds.

The really sad part about this is that his information was not suppose to become public about the Amphetamines test. This is a desperate attack to try and take the attention off of America's sweetheart Mark McGwire. They still say that he "possibly" took steroids eventhough he doesn't wanna talk about the past.

This is non-issue. Major Leaguers have been taking stuff since the game began back in 1884. That's the only way they can make it though the grind that is a 162-game season and postseason. If you don't take something, you won't make it. Baseball, like football, is a very mentally and physically demanding sport. So what if Bonds or any other player takes simulates to get through--it's part of the game and not cheating.

Bonds was a Hall of Famer long before the steroid issue came on the scene.
Baseball didn't ban steroid use until after the 2002 season.
Bonds stats were off the charts long before 2002.

Bonds entered the 2001 season with a plus .290 batting average, 1,014 extra-base hits (451 doubles, 69 triples, 494 home runs) an untold number of intentional walks, .400 on base percentage, and over 400 stolen bases.
He also accrued the following awards before baseball banned steroids:

1990 NL Gold Glove
1990 NL MVP
1991 NL Gold Glove
1992 NL Gold Glove
1992 NL MVP
1993 NL Gold Glove
1993 NL MVP
1994 NL Gold Glove
1996 NL Gold Glove
1997 NL Gold Glove
1998 NL Gold Glove
2001 NL MVP
2002 NL MVP

Where's the physical evidence, the medical records proving that he used steroids AFTER it was banned?
Until those records are revealed, it's simply "hearsay" and a witch hunt by the "white" media simply because he thumbed his nose at them throughout his career, plain and simple.

Bonds is the greatest baseball player of ALL times, whether one likes him or not. The numbers don't lie.

Exactly, if this was not his second offense, then MLB violated its own rule of non-disclosure for the first offense. Just like the grand jury leak. But, its Barry Bonds, so why bother with rules anyway, we finally got something on him, hah!

This is exactly why I believe Bonds belongs in the Hall, regardless. He was 400/400 (runs/steals) before any of the steroid allegations surfaced. That accomplishment alone should get him in.

Regards.

Don't forget about the 40/40 Club too (40 homers, 40 steals in same season) only 3 players ever did that and that was long before 2002.

... Baseball didn't ban steroid use until after the 2002 season...
Jun. 7, 1991 ? Commissioner Fay Vincent Issues Memo Regarding Steroid Use
After the U.S. Congress raises penalties for steroid possession, Commissioner Fay Vincent sends a memo to each team indicating that steroids would be added to Major League Baseball?s banned list. The memo stated: "The possession, sale or use of any illegal drug or controlled substance by Major League players or personnel is strictly prohibited ... This prohibition applies to all illegal drugs ... including steroids."
