Ranking The SWAC Head Coaching Hires


I don't know how I would rank these except for Comegy being #1. There are way too many unknowns for the others. However, we all know that Comegy has the best resume of any coach Valley has had in a while. The INTANGIBLES will determine how well these coaches do. I am assuming that this "list" is not how these coaches will do in 2014 but how good they are for the total program.

Comegy was an 8 win coach at JSU. I don't see how he can duplicate that at Valley but if he is smart, he would schedule Ed Waters and Wagner type schools to help get him over 0.500. Nothing is wrong with that unless Valley makes a serious committment to football. There is no need in him trying to play tough games when the deck is stacked against him. Another thing, no matter what Comegy says, you can't believe it. He said lots of good things about Valley but he knows deep down that is not the place for him. He won't risk a losing record becasue he is not going to want to lose his value. I don't see him at Valley but one season unless no other jobs come open.

Fobbs will need a patient fan base. PERIOD.

Spady will need to realize where he is. He seems like a smart enough coach to know how to make adjustments. He is an offensive minded coach and that is what AAMU needs. As long as improving the offense does not sacrifice the defense.

Harold Jackson has the easiest job of all and the hardest job of all. Jackson will win 7 games because that is what a JSU coach does. That's the easy part. The hard part is, winning seven games is the quickest way to get fired in Jackson.

Well at the mid-point of the season, all Grambling needed was a change of leadership.

In one game, Comegy has already done something remarkable. He still has quite a ways to go in order to get Valley competitive again. I wonder if the win over JSU will help with recruiting athletes that would normally go to JSU. I also wonder how far he can take Valley with the resources he been given.

Spady needs another good recruiting class including some transfers that could help the team immediately. He also needs to seriously evaluate some of the play calling decisions he's made. Also after Saturday, he or any other coach can't assume that the athletes that sign do not need to be retaught the basics of tackling, how to cover a WR, etc. LOL!

I really don't know what to say about Jackson and that is no smack. I don't know the details on how he got hired but I suspect there was some kind of power struggle with influential alumni. At $269,000 somebody is getting pimped.
