1. SU - We done got soft. But I will still rank us at number...barely. Our tailgate still off the chain though
2. JSU - Got to give them credit. They still support even in the down years. The atmosphere is always good outside the stadium as well.
3. Alcorn - The reservation knows how to party. LOL. Da Corn as we called it growing up is a great place to play a football game. Just hard getting in and out of there. LOL.
4. PV - Now that they got the new stadium, it adds to their atmosphere on campus
5. Bama A&M - They don't go in, but they have a good time outside of the stadium. Had fun each time there
6. Bama State - I would have them ranked higher if I had gone to their new stadium. It looks like it is NICE and I would assume the atmosphere is better than when they played in Crampton Bowl
That new access road and RV will help.
I can honestly say that I have been to every SWAC school on a big game day. From what I have seen:
1. Jackson State
(There is a certain smell, sound and site of a big JSU home game that you have to experience in order to know what HBCU football is all about. Say what you want about JSU, but their game day experience is 100% pure black college football. Even the away teams love the atmosphere. The sounds in the air make you walk faster to get inside the stadium. It's an amazing experience for everyone. I sure hope JSU doesn't get a dome. It's would ruin that great experience.)
2. Southern
(On game day, SU folks love SU and hate everyone else in attendance. After game day, those same folks want you to beat everyone else you play for the remainder of the season. I have been telling folks for decades that SU gave birth to SEC football mentality. No other HBCU loves "every" team and unit of their school like SU. The SU spirit is real and you can see throughout the game day experience.)
3. Grambling
(JSU and GSU should have a fan BBQ battle among tailgaters. Both schools have pit smoke slapping you as you park and walk. HBCU or PWI, FBS or FCS, not too many campuses have high football IQ's in the crowd like GSU. Those folks want a good football game. Even the female GSU fans know what's happening on the field. Looking down at the stadium when you park you car or while you are eating food outside of the gate never gets old as well. What a unique design. There is something about Grambling that gives them the perfect Louisiana-Texas football loving blend.)
4. Alcorn
(Alcorn and Hampton fans are just long lost cousins to me. On game day, they just want to fire up the grill and enjoy a beautiful day of football and the fans. When Alcorn folks tailgate, they feed anyone who wants to be fed. When they dance, they dance with anyone who wants to dance. From my experiences, when Alcorn fans get together for a big home game, they are some of the most classy fans to be around. A very friendly environment. I would go to an Alcorn game on any day.)
5. AAMU
(If the party outside was the same in the stadium, AAMU would be higher on this list. I have been there 5 times in my life, (the least trips of the other 4 on my list), and I have enjoyed the tailgaters and looking at all of the lean mean Alabama fine women machines walking around giving smiles to everyone.)
AAMU has great tailgating! We could be much higher but there are few dynamics we face that are unique to our area lol
we still manage to have a great time despite those issues especially for Homecoming
Really?! It's long, long overdue. I hope it's completed within the next two years. So glad we're finally getting a 3rd entrance
