MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – When a healthy, athletic young person goes before their time, it’s one of the most difficult situations a family can go through. Former Alabama A&M University kicker Chance Wilson was found dead over the weekend in Huntsville.

Monday WHNT News 19 spoke to Wilson’s uncle about the void left behind by a guy who he says considered everyone family.

“Chance, going to Buckhorn High School, of course grew up here. Chance was the guy who, you know, if they’d had a ‘Mr. Congeniality,’ he’d have had it. Because he didn’t know a stranger. He’s a hugger; of course as a kid but even when he outgrew me, I’d expect a handshake and he’d give a big ‘ole bear hug. I guess it was a week ago I was at his office and before I left he said, ‘I love you’ — Chance was never embarrassed. He had no problem saying that he loved you and no problem giving you a hug — he didn’t know a stranger,” remembers Uncle, Steve Lacy.

I remember him. This hurts a lot smh. I'm not understanding why the younger ones are dropping right now. What's going on?

he will be missed..Chance was a friend to everyone no matter who you were ..he just loved people

my prayers go out to Chance's family who supported AAMU Football 100% and still do so....he won't be forgotten...

my lasting memory of Chance Wilson will be that winning FG kick against Southern U with 2 seconds left on the clock in 2012 ..the game was a dogfight to the end! he made the kick and they carried him off the field...

Rip Chance Wilson....rest well normalite

What was the cause of death?
apparant heart attack.... he was found in his car at a bail bonding business that he owned.

This is a pic of his last home game on senior day when he kicked the game winning field goal to beat Southern.

What was the cause of death?

“Basically it could be 6 months before we know definitively on something. But yeah, looks like his heart just stopped and he was out at his business just doing the evening’s work and went to his car; unfortunately his dad found him, which is so tough for a dad.”
