question for Prairie View fans

Just read of the SWT board that Mark Spivey has been released from SWT/Texas State to play for PVU. Just wondering if you guys have heard anything about this rumor.

To refresh memory Mark Spivey was considered the 12th best dual threat QB in nation this past year. In February Mark chose SWT over PVU and Texas Southern.
 



I heard the same yesterday and I think this could be more than rumor. At any rate, I will kkep it on the hush for now !
 
considering Spivey's dad is associated with PV (student, alumnus, something like that) and the fact that SW Texas went out and brought 4 other guys in after he signed and gave the man no pub in the Dave Campbell's football magazine, I would not be surprised.

I heard it yesterday from the closest source a guy can have. We'll see Monday when business starts back up.

If he's back, then we'll have an interesting fall camp. I might make a few more practices than expected. About time we have had some quarterback competition.

Prairie View's Athletic Director confirmed the story Friday at a Labor Day Classic Luncheon.
 
Well good luck to him, hopefully he will have an outstanding career at PVU.

As Blu Panther mentioned we are up to our elbows with talented QBs. As a matter of fact Spivey along with Chasse Wasson(5-A player of the year) were probably going to red-shirt anyway.
 
at least he realized he won't have to waste time riding the bench like some folks at certain schools.

with Nealy, you got to wait at least 3 years or move to receiver. Foundation is pretty good.
 
He should've seen the handwriting on the walls. 5A player of the year and owner of numerous passing records? (along w/ other txfers) Man, couldn't he see wide receiver written all on the back of his jersey? :confused: LOL Damn... Slow. Very slow. But still, we're happy to have him (along w/ the other impressives).

It's damn nice to see 'real' players w/ all-state/all-district/all-region/etc. on their resume' wearing purple and gold. :tup:

I don't think the SWAC is aware of what's about to hit. LOL

I wanted C-Leb and the rest to speak up. Those advertising $$$$$ need to be spent soon so that we can get that 40K+ figure in the dome(?) or Robinson stad (preferred).

There is no reason why 40K+ shouldn't be @ a PV-TSU football game. Also, we TOO need to start spending some $$$$ to push our newly revamped athletic programme. :tup:
 
That's the problem gentlemen; this year it's our turn to promote, market and publicize the game (damn, every barber shop in 3rd Ward will be there though).

Maybe if you Panthers can convince Mc Clelland to start promoting for the 2004 game now, everything can work out.
 



Panthro...your right, it feels good to see 1st team all-district kids enrolling, Texas Top 300, kids with state rings, etc. already started in basketball, starting in football and baseball. all it took was a scholarship.

I'm just glad that Spivey got that common sense back before he packed his bags and left for San Marcos.

they told me the TSU assistant AD already picked up the media passes for reliant and handing them out to folks who have never been to a game before in their lives.
 
congrats for pvamu maybe with your 12th best dual qb yall could be looking at a high powered option offense like ga.southern also maybe yall could get some new uniforms with yall new coach just keepin it real

Report: SW Texas AD reports secondary violations

SAN MARCOS (AP) - Southwest Texas State has alerted the NCAA to two secondary violations related to the transfer of former University of Houston quarterback Barrick Nealy, Houston television station KRIV reported Tuesday.
Athletic director Greg LaFleur said he reported the violations and is now waiting for the NCAA to determine the severity of the infractions.
Nealy, who received his release from Houston earlier this month, will not be able to play at Division I-AA Southwest Texas State this season unless Houston grants him a one-time transfer exception.
LaFleur said Southwest Texas State will ask for that exception once the NCAA makes its decision on the violations.
Dave Maggard, UH athletic director, wouldn't comment.
Nealy missed all but first four games of the 2002 season with the Cougars because of knee surgery. He decided to leave Houston after Art Briles replaced Dana Dimel as head coach.
In those games, Nealy threw for 592 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 190 yards and two scores.

I have not heard anything about a (new) uniform change. But a renovated 22,000 seat stadium and field house is on the way.
 
A transfer from SWT/TSU-SM would have to sit out a year, therefore, unless this player transferred to PVAMU last summer, you guys will have to wait until 2004 to see him play.....

Even though he never registered for one class at Texas State?

I believe your confusing the rule of student athletes that have actually played a season at an institution and then decides to transfer to another institution at the same level or higher level.

This is not the totally the case. When it comes to a student athlete signing a "letter or intent" before actually enrolling in school. It also depends on what type of "release" the student athletes receives from the school that he had signed the original letter of intent.

Check the NCAA rules.
