Question for Get Ready!

Regarding Black Sensitivity.....

I think that USM YTs should read the book I just finished, Walk With The Wind, by John Lewis, a key civil rights figure in the sixties and Chairman of SNCC. The treatment at the hands of YT during their peaceable protests would make even David Duke wretch. I couldn't stay peaceful through that. I'd toss that Gandhi **** right out the window first time Bubba rapped me upside da head with a brick for sittin' at a Nashville lunch counter.

Dwight Mann had "The Negro Problem" sugarcoated for him in school. Lots of shat out there. Find a mid 70's junior high civics book and read about civil rights. All it talks about is riots as if it were the blacks causin' the problems.
My wife is white and, though her family had nothing to do with all that (being from Minnesota and all), she is still mortally embarrassed. I try to tell her not to be, but it's tough on some white folks, too. Gotta remember that our folks had lots of white folks helpin' em out, too.

You obviously didnt read this thread. USM folks are the ones saying, "we were only held scoreless against Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, Miami, and Tennessee. You guys conveniently left out mighty UAB and Memphis. Dont get mad at me cause I caught your little bluff.

The only reason UAB has a top 10 defense is because they get to play USM. Your offense was the worst in CUSA last year with your most experience QB. What is going to happen this year when you backups are exposed?

As far as the Woods thing goes, again, read the whole thread.

What? First paragraph I don't have an idea what your saying. We haven't been held scoreless in a long time against anybody. FLA: We played 5 years ago, 6 points. Inside the redzone 4 times all in turnovers.
FSU: That was like 6 years ago and we were a different program then. BTW, scored 14
NEB: Actually moved the ball very well against them, scoring 14 points.
We never played Miami.

As for UAB:

They played FSU, UCF, and other high powered offenses in the conf (Louisville, ECU, Tulane).

You guys give up 27 points a game, scoring 39 (one of your best offenses in a long time)....in SWAC ball. Your defense was probably one of the best in the SWAC, says something about the defenses you face.

We scored 25 a game against actual competition (not teams that belong in D-2 and our worst offense in years). Our defense gives up about 17 a game.

The schedules are also impossible to compare. Our worst opponent (U-La-La) could beat your best opponent.

My point...we will stop your offense. We will move the ball. If we don't move the ball....there will be a firing shortly after.

Uuuuh Eagle Nathan

I was exaggerating when I put Florida......nevermind. I dont have time to explain smack to you.

Did someone get fired after you couldnt move the ball in 87? You remember, that was the year you didnt score 1 offensive TD against JSU.

GET READY for the best QB in the country to light your defense up. Tell you QB to GET READY to meet Bobby Bell. Tell your CBs to GET READY to meet Chris Jones. And tell your linemen to GET READY to meet James Randal and Michael Matthews.

Did someone get fired? No. That was 1987. There is a difference. Our program was at a low in the 80's. Your program was at its peak. The difference between 1-A and 1-AA was not as great as it is now. Your defense blows. You couldn't stop Wingfield.

I'd love to rip you on the comment about Kent. That one is juuuust too easy. Also, is there some reason why I haven't heard of Chris Jones? Yeah....those Louisville receivers can't compare to your's. James Randal? Michael Matthews? Your right, though. The DLs of ECU, Louisville, Memphis, and other top teams can in no way compare to your DL. Okay, I'll go on and say it if you want. We have never played a team of the caliber of a 7-4 SWAC school. Louisville, Bama, all those good schools can't compare. You might as well move up to D-1, even though you can't win a Division 2 conference.

And by the way, we are in no danger from the, as you said, "contraction committee". Don't respond unless its intellegent. If I want to act unintelligent, I'll start a debate that Vanilla Ice is the greatest artist of all time.

Don't sell Vanilla Ice short...yall might would have been better off to schedule him for halftime in an attempt to boost attendance. It wouldn't draw worth a isht, but you wouldn't have to explain the results. What I mean is, "what if Kent does light your azz"... you stated that someone would be "fired" if you lost and that's a real possibility. I realize that yall are D1, but you are not a D1 powerhouse. I give you props for being good, but you gotta admit that you're beatable on Aug 31st.

Your players were not on any of the blue chip list, either. You have signed players who didn't quite make the SEC recruiting list.
That's not to say they are not good players, but your recruiting base is not any different from Jackson State. You have more players, but JSU has comparable talent. I will not be shocked if you go home on Aug 31st wishing that you had called Vanilla Ice!

I knew somewhere there was a guy on this board that made sense. Now, I don't agree with what you said but I can understand why you think that.

Are we beatable? On any given day, any given team can beat another team. Attitude can keep a team in a game and sometimes beat a much better team. However, USM is simply just far too superior. I mean, this is the best team JSU has played....ever. I don't believe just because you're a 1-AA team, you can't beat a 1-A team. However, usually its the powerhouses that pull the upsets. Teams like Troy State, NW State, Georgia Southern, etc. etc. However JSU, is just not a top 1-AA team. The recruiting base: I don't know where JSU gets recruits from. I do know that most of our's come out of Florida and Alabama. You do have a point with the talent. Judging by the recruiting profiles on players, you're not that far off. However, USM historically turns the pretty good players into very good players (hence the numbers in the NFL). Talent is even, however, USM has the better players, take any position and I can prove myself.

However, one thing was disturbing about your post...

You defending Vanilla Ice. Now, the guy would not only not help attendance, he would draw people away. I don't know what was up with the guy but he was the worst artist ever. Probably why his career lasted two weeks.

You missed my point about Vanilla Ice...see what I meant was (nevermind, let's talk football)

You mentioned that NWState is a powerhouse. WTF?!? Until the past two season's SU has owned Northwestern. Just because they have participated in the playoffs doesn't make them a powerhouse. I realize they beat TCU (a CUSA member) and you're impressed by that, but TCU (and a lot of the CUSA teams) are beatable by a good 1AA team. We (GSU) tried to schedule them as a makeup for the 9/11 cancellation but they didn't want to deal with the ICON!

But back to the matter at hand...JSU has enough talent to compete with USM and has produced it's share of talent. They took Corey Bradford and Sylvester Morris who were relatively unknowns coming out of high school and developed them into NFL receivers. Although they haven't sent any "O" or "D" linemen recently, they have produced some pretty good "big uglies" in the past.

Bottomline===> I think you risk a lot! This will be a big recruiting coup for JSU to pull off this win. You will have hell to pay in the state of Mississippi if you lose this game. It will be hard to sell the recruits on the "we're a more big time program" angle.

Yeah, I gotcha on the Vanilla Ice thing. Been sick, kinda slow here. Realized I totally missed it after I posted

I'm not talking about talent. I'm talking about better players. The talent is the same. It takes coaches and teammates to produce good players. Bower does so.

Bottomline===> I agree COMPLETELY. That's why I hated the idea. I don't think JSU will but if by some miracle they do win....USM is starting from scratch. I mean, yes its about a 90 percent chance we'll win, Gianini (AD) is putting the program ON THE LINE. If we win, so what? We beat a SWAC team. If we lose....you won't be hearing from USM for 20 years. I'm burning my USM stuff if we lose.
