This one of the best match -ups in recent years between PV & GSU. I have been following the State Fair Classic since 93 and again this one will go down as one to remember. GSU looked great and few songs that they played were loud as HECK.

Now down to the nitty gritty:

1. 1st half - PV
2. Halftime - PV (close)
3. 2nd half - PV
4. Sectional Fanfares - PV
5. 5th -quarter - no 5th because of the fight on the field.

Again, GSU was loud and some songs they were louder than PV. However, GSU could not match the quality of Sound that PV put out. Not all of GSU's songs sounded as well as they should. Not taking anything from GSU, but they could not match PV overall. Halftime, I like GSU's show. I will admit it was one of the best shows put on in the Cotton Bowl in recent years from GSU. I did not like the (Step in the name of love) simply because Alabama State did it first, with the directors dancing with the band at the Honda Battle of the Bands in January,.

I agree this was one to see. This was the best Cotton Bowl classic in the past 5+ years. Both bands sounded good and were krankin.

1st half- PV just because they played more. ( PV played ESPN    GSU played ESPN:      )
Half - I give the very slight edge to Gram because they had a more consistent show. They had nice formations and a good breakdown. My only complaint is the singers on that slow song. The only reason halftime was close was because of PV doing white tee. That was nice! Other than that, PV's show was pretty basic.

2nd Half- Even. I liked Gram's P-funk and that Linkin Park song was real nice. I also liked PV's rendition of Eminem's D12.

Section Battles-

Trombones- slight edge to Gram in the power category although they had some intonation problems
Baritones- Gram played a fanfare where one guy took it up a couple of octaves but it sounded kinda bad
Trumpets- pretty even; PV had more screaming in their fanfares but Gram's were a little cleaner. I really liked the Can U stand the Rain, and that Camileon fanfare.
Tubas- Gram's tubas had a darker sound and were more consistent throughout the game
Percussion- PV hands down

Overall this game was kinda a toss up or you could argue the slight edge to PV. Gram really has arrangement problems. Their musicality is drastically improving and they surely have the power! PV also has the power especially on thet Genesis fanfare.

I was also to the game and pv played a lot but i could remember everytime gsu played a song pv just sat right back down. i am saying to a lot of bands including su to watch out because gsu is coming. :dizzy:

That would be because when Grambling played, they used the entire TV time-out....Let's not start that....

Legend35, good to meet you at the game. Mach, god seeing you at the game and downtown...I'm gonna get at you about...well....I'll PM you.

I understand what you are staying and can understand why you are saying it. As you stated "the few songs GSU played". That really was the difference maker. GSU seemed very hesitant to play and it appears the BCC game may have had something to do with it. "Spectator observation"

Both crowds were into halftime. PV brought more sound on the field though. Grambling has waayyyy too much going on on the field, I didn't even notice if the girls did a routine because everyone else was still dancing or felt like it. Crowd was getting into GSU's Pfunk. Grambling, don't let them people sing Rick James and Teena Marie no mo! People in the endzone was just looking at each other like "is it appropriate to boo them out of respect for Rick James?" Other than that, I never really was a fan of all the dancing, but other people seem to like it.

Overall, had a great time at the fair. Rode some high priced rides, ate some high priced food, but had a good time.

I know this is gonna get me in trouble , but here it goes.

As a former member of the WF, I understand why it happens but, I gotta agree that the dancing with the Orchesis is a bit much now especially with the size of the band now. It's way to much going on during that portion of the show. And plus, those girls can dance. I know you might be thinking that's what all the other bands do but still, too busy on the field. The time used to work on dance steps could be used for polishing the show or music.

Just my .02.

S phi S on the ladder. Congrats keep doing your thing.

Overall I think that both bands did a great job. To me PVU's Halftime was better.
Stands: PVU 1st half
2nd half I'd have to give it to Gram becuz they played more

As far as selectional fanfares:
Mellos:PVU
T-pets: GSU (cleaner)
Bari: GSU
Tubas: toss up

PVU: "Talk about our love"
GSU: "Talk about our love"

s phi s,.....it was an honor to meet you finally. I gotta tell ya that I was not happy that you threw Miles Davis "Kinda Blue" on us. :smh:
No ,....I was not happy about it at all. Oh well,....I knew how you was coming so all I could do is sit back and smile. We will cross paths again.
All I can say is that I absolutely enjoyed both bands.
For the people who say that PV should update their musical selection,.....I will say that a bunch of BS!!!! I like what they do and I personally don't want to hear all that rap crap the entire game.

You are old...Let it go!!! :lmao:

both bands were great, halftime was a toss up. i can tell gsu was playing a little scared in the stands, i can tell it was the over effects from the bethune cookman game. gsu was blowing down, whew if they weren't holding back it would have been unimaginalbe in the cotton bowl. p.v. was blowing also. gsu is a band to look out for

Well this was one of those games where I got to listen to both bands from a spectators point of view (walking around with the royal court and all). I talked to Grambling's t-pet section leader (who's been my boy since Junior high) and we both agreed that GSU has had arrangement problems for a minute. They DEFINITELY have the power but that will only get you so far when you're playing against THE STORM. I have to say that the Linkin Park song was off the chain and I thought it definitely added to the versatility of GSU's program. All and all, I think it's pretty clear that THE STORM showed up to take no prisoners Saturday. GSU jammed on us last year so we definitely had to return the favor this year. By the way S Phi, I think I saw you jump a lil' bit when we played "My Band Fanfare" and almost got blown off the ladder during "Genesis"   Next time just bolt your shoes down :D

Trumpets - I liked GSU's clarity but I'll give it to the Phi Screama's

B-Tones - They were loud (GSU) ..................It's a B-Tone though

Bones - GSU sounds a whole lot better this year but I still hate that most of their fanfares are in B flat major or minor. At least the ones that they play against us.

Tubas - GSU gets the edge on this one. The K was ready but the kickoff "men" seemed to have a few mishaps every once in a while.

Mellos - Clearly PV is still dominating that battle.

Hoooold on now!!!!
now Im is old school and all....
but PV has always played the rap shat.....
See we play the underground rap that unless u thugged out and gangsta....u too much wont know about......they dont play that bubble-gum sissy rap:blush: :bday: you hear on the radio or see on BET.....but trust me they play rap homie.......lots of it........hey my cousin....BLACK FOX '94 asked how did the BFs do....holla back someone who knows about dancin.....
Stay up Black People!!!

I really don't think you consider your words to be fact...

:look:

Well from reading some opinions of neutral people that saw the halftime on TV it appears that this may be true in the minds of many.....not taking anything away from GSU.

Now someone tell me what the band did with the white tees.

you must talked to some of the ignorant people, i watched the tape on yesterday and if you have to wipe between your legs to get house then you are pathetic and plus hunching at the camera lol, gsu did a clean show and still got house without the white t, don't need props, but of course the black mentality likes ignorant sexual gestures. not taking away form p.v. they are a great band, but it some things you don't do on t.v, as far as dance routine gsu ran cirlces around p.v. so whomever said that is speaking a bunch of bull. on the real though both bands were entertaining, gsu show was more entertaining. p.v. show was boring until they pulled out the white t's and that's a fact. the box didn't even get house lol.

SMH....Come on now usa today....

#1....Don't act like the great Grambling State has never pulled anything out of their uniforms....

#2....They didn't wipe between their legs, they just pulled the shirts between them.

#3....The only circles ran were actually in GSU's dance routine.

#4....There were SEVERAL spots that got house in our dance routine, both before and ater the white tees....

#5....Ask Steve Harvey what he thought of the halftime show.
