PV gets new stadium, sends football player to the pros

Blu Panther

The name says it all
House Bill whatever (171??) was signed by the Governor on Saturday and goes into effect. It means we will have the funds available for the football stadium and it should be started on in a year or 2. It's supposed to seat 21,000 and have an athletic facility attatched to it. That means SU comes to our house finally and it the dollars aren't right, TSU will come see us also every 2 years.

Also got word that 2001 Defensive Player of the Year Bobby Perry made the Roughriders of the CFL. First PV player to do so since 1989. (Current D-Coordinator).

Why are you keeping the SU game on campus?

SU's gonna' bring 20,000 Nation members which equates $$$$$$$. In other words, sellout, parking, concessions, $$$$$ staying @ home, etc.

Congrats to Mr. Perry. Very happy for him. Hopefully, this is the start of something good for PV.

Also, *cough* I'm really pulling for Greg Burks this Thursday. (among others who are grad seniors in the SWAC).

You'd make more money with the game in Houston. SU fans do not view PV as a big game and will more than likely stay home. Reliant Stadium wasn't enough to bring them out last year for this game. What makes you think moving the game to PV will?

half haven't even been to PV....moving it to Houston costs more than anything since the game attracts 18K at the most. Why have empty seats?

I liked Lamar's stadium, it was small but it had a full house.

Congratulations with the new football stadium. Are the plans for the football facility available on the internet?

If for know other reason, then the comfort of allowing oue players to play games at their home stadium and take advantage of that comfort zone. I am sure that most of you all would not be aware of this, but over the last three years we played a much better brand of football at home on campus than any where else.

We believe that the addition of providing the full NCAA Divisision I AA Allotment of scholarships, additional support for the team, and the opportunity to recruit Houston area and Texas in general with a new 21,000K seat stadium will bring an additional comfort level and competitiveness for our program as well as a discomfort level for the visiting team.

In time, we believe with this scenario and inconjuction just plan old fashion winning more ball games over the years will increase the revenue that can be generated by our program playing at home as opposed to playing in Houston, until we feel we have a better product to give us the leverage to significantly negotiate better deals for our program to move a game to whatever city for whatever reason.

I've seen a drawing but it is not the official drawing...all I know is that the press box will move to the visitors side with a newly built home side with a better scoreboard and an athletic building/complex also.

Congrats PVU.

It definitely makes sense to play more games at home now, including SU and TSU for that matter. The Labor Day Classic rarely draws 30K so unless you guys are getting a good deal in Houston, why bother.

as in hoops, two winning football programs will push the LDC over 30K

We should EASILY be in that 50K+ range being in that area. Man...

Everyone from the Houston area breaks their necks coming to Dallas for the fair classic but I don't see the converse happening for the LDC. Dallas needs to be ATTACKED proactively for PV support.

Building a stadium for the visiting team. That's interesting!!!

we recruited well from what I think but a few wins consistently will mean we get to have a larger base to pull from. For exampli, in baseball and basketball, if we call, kids will consider us immediately instead of waiting and sitting back.

2003 Season For PVAMU

I wish PV well for the 2003 football season.I feel that the more good teams that is in a conference, the better off that conference and BCF will be.I want the SWAC to return to those days when NFL scouts use to flock to those campuses.I want those days also for the MEAC,SIAC and the CIAA as well.I want many other HBCUs to get television deals. It helps everybody.:D
