School breaks the $100 million mark Only $46 million away from goal

It's enough to buy Uga a really nice dog bowl.

The University of Georgia announced Thursday that it broke the $100 million mark in private giving last year for the first time, reporting an increase of nearly 12 percent over the previous year.

As of June 30, the end of the fiscal year, UGA raised $108.3 million in gifts and commitments. The university is in the midst of a seven-year capital campaign and has now raised $454 million of its $500 million goal, officials said.

......

While this is UGA's first time passing the $100 million mark, Georgia Tech crossed the threshold in the '90s, school officials said.

The Atlanta institute also had a banner fundraising year, said Barrett Carson, Tech's vice president for development.

Tech released preliminary figures showing the school received a total of $131 million in gifts and commitments. That's up 5.5 percent from the previous fiscal year's $124.1 million.

UGA will never surpass GaTech (a much smaller school) in fundraising and giving. We had a 3 year goal of raising 500 Million dollars....uuum, we raised 700 million. Now we are about to embark upon a Billion dollar campaign. Mighty Hornet, I will let you make a contributions...LOL

Good job for UGA though.

maybe yall can use some of that money to fund athletics better
or as far as academics, maybe one day, yall can get to Emory's level.

face it, in Atl, yech isn't top in athletics or academics

Emory can't hang with us either. sheesh.

Emory has even partnered with us to get in on the Engineering business. You can't do anything in this world without engineering. Those PE majors at UGA will never be on our level.

You should be happy to have GaTech in ATL...in fact, Emory is not in the ATL. They are in the ghetto of Decatur. Georgia Tech located at the corner of Midtown between the exclusive Technology Square and Atlantic Station.

ghetto??????
For years, yech was SURROUNDED by ghettos, black and white ones
:lol::lol:

but I digress, I should have known a topic about UGA would bring out the jealous yech folks.
still smdh @ that fight song

May I interrrupt for a minute.....

From just reading the snippet of this article, I get part of the problem facing most HBCU's. THE MONEY FACTOR. Tech, with their engineering and technical schools, have been creating alumni both on the undergraduate and graduate level that make nice salaries and like to give back. Georgia, is now beginning to see the results of the upgrading of their schools. Their enrollments have been up and now more people have better jobs and it's more giving rather than just the few wealth rural landowners in South Georgia.

This is what we need to be doing at HBCU's. We need to be recruiting more students, enabling them by preparing for high paying jobs and fostering a positive environment while they are in school and encourage them to give back as alumni. Also there was a lot of big business contributing to this too. Alums go out and create companies that donate and companies also want to be aligned with the UGA/Tech name brand also. We have to make our universites name brands also. Therefore business will be glad to contribute to our schools because they see tangible returns on their investments, not mismanagement of funds and investigations.

Just a few of my observations......

MH, TP resume in 5.....4.......3.......2.........

Bruh, the ONLY thing Emory has is that medical school and higher tuition. They needed US for bioengineering but we only agreed to it if housed @ Tech.

...and Emory is STILL in the ghetto. Tech is surrounded by multi-million dollar GaTech designed landscaping, engineering and architecture.

:smh:
Emory is bankrolled by Coke's money, all the way into a top tier national ranking and one of the largest endowments in the country. And much higher than yech.

and when have you last been to Emory's campus? It's not ghetto.

btw, yech can thank the Olympics for removing those projects that used to surround it.
Cause before that, yech was like an HBCU.

Well, the campus and surrounding area looks much better 10 years after the Olympics has gone. We don't need no dayum Olympics.

I don't buy that endowment crap. If you are private, you automatically have a higher endowment just by how things are set up...building ownership, etc. Just because they got their money from a private company and we got ours from the state/private does not make any difference at the end of the day. Tech has a more renowned academic reputation that Emory, University of Chicago and a lot of other schools ranked higher than us in the polls. If we were private, that would be different.

Decatur is ghetto.

HBCU grads have the money. While we as Black people could better support as well as create our own businesses, we can easily better support our schools. Our schools need to raise more money from the grads. The grads need to give back more money, which is tax deductable, to our schools.

Georgia should be above Tech in private donations since its have more grads and is a bigger school. But it would not surprised me to see that Tech is ahead. A lot of Tech grads are high level executives of some Fortune 500 companies. Plus, Tech is ahead when it comes to research money. That does not surprise me at all.

I have been around Emory. Unless things have changes a lot in the last few years, it is not ghetto.

When it comes to athletes and their academics, I will respect Tech way over UGA. I would not advise an athlete, especially if Dooley was still there, to play at Georgia.
