Prairie View A&M Makes Case For At-Large FCS Playoff Bid

You are so right. Makes no fiscal sense for any of the 18-22 teams that participate. None. But.....That's not what's it's about. It's about putting on our pants the same way everybody else does. The SWAC wants us to put on our pants the way they do.

Look the SWAC has been doing their thing for 30+ years. Where is the payoff? What has it done for your talent pool? What about money? Where are your dominate teams?
Where is the exposure? You guys let GSU and SU brainwash you into thinking HBCU's not being "included" means we are getting rich on the other side of the rainbow.
LOL. We are not!!! You must be from GSU or SU. The pimps!!!

I support PV for trying.

As far as GSU or SU...again why spend money with no return just to show that you can put on your pants like everyone else? If teams want to go to the playoff then let them win out and tell the SWAC commissioner they don't want to go to the SCG. Pay the fine if it is one and attempt for a bid.

Then come back and report on the fiscal benefits.

Since you are a MEAC school support and an apparent playoff support please post cost benefit of the playoffs for the MEAC.

If PV makes the playoffs, don't you know how pissed many of those MEAC posters would be!

Nobody from the MEAC would be pissed

While many MEAC fans have a different mindset from SWAC fans, I seriously doubt anybody would be upset that another HBCU was in the postseason. Celebration Bowl and Playoffs...more HBCU teams in the postseason is awesome

That's the main point of this. The SWAC will have a 8-2 (not counting the Faith win) team just sitting around doing nothing after Saturday so why not push for it? I'm thoroughly surprised by how much push back this has got on Facebook. I said from the jump the chances are slim but every time it comes up and people are pushing it on Facebook and Twitter, you got the naysayers saying we have no shot. You got these SoCon, Southland, NEC and MVC schools pushing their 5-6, 6-5 and 7-4 teams for bids but we poo poo'ing a 9-2 PV for even attempting. This is not for just this year but next year and especially 2017 when the 7 game format comes back and the chances to play and beat these schools come back. Imagine if a 8-3 PV beats a Southland school like NSU and a MEAC in 2017 but doesn't make the Celebration Bowl? Their resume would definitely say they have a shot at the playoffs.

You're making too much sense Frat!

Bruh don't start. They know there's no cost and benefits. They just want to be able to say they rubbed elbows

Nobody giving any push back. They are simply presenting the facts of the odds against it happening.

While in the other hand there are those who would want you to believe this is not out of the ordinary and it's not a long shot. And that's putting it mildly.

Good luck PV, it makes sense to extend your excellent season that would otherwise be over. What some naive folk don't understand is that Grambling and Southern's regular season isn't over when the FCS playoffs begin. We chose not to forego our biggest money maker for a "maybe" chance to play in the FCS playoffs. I'm sure that if the playoffs would have been a week later (prior to the SCG), our programs would have had no problem.

To blame GSU & SU for other teams not going is short sighted. Their Presidents voted for the SCG which excludes all from going to the playoffs. In this year, PV might just be able to get in. It will be good seeing them get that chance... So come on PV, bust the clock! (lol)

Yup...Just do like PV has done and end your regular season this weekend. Win enough games. Schedule well.

at the time Rudy created the scg the heritage bowl was a big deal and the SWAC was dominated by a few teams and the rest flat out sucked and administrations were ran by the old guard who were stuck in the past

It was an easy sell then as you would've thought someone would've drafted a counter to the scg that would've still retained the auto bid....

Fast forward 17 years and we have heritage bowl 2.0 and administrations who've seen the fcs debates from both sides and coaching staffs who've experienced it so now that option should be revisited by adding adding criteria for a team to be considered in case a playoff berth comes up

You're making too much sense Frat!

I don't know why people are so against this when the other conferences do the same thing.

We know the playoffs are biased so the chances for PV to get in are slim this year. It still doesn't hurt to try. It's next year and especially 2017 that this campaign is setting up for a possible at-large bid. This problem will probably arise again in 2017 when schools will have the chance to schedule some decent PWI FCS schools and force the FCS Selection Committee show their bias. The MEAC got screwed last year and will probably get screwed this year (BCU last year and this year) so imagine if you got HBCU conferences with ranked schools getting snubbed with 8-3 /9-2 records over 6-5/7-4 teams from "power" FCS conferences.

Would you care to post anyone saying that they were against it?

Going to the FCS playoffs makes no fiscal sense what so ever.

Only if you're trying to host the game.

If you notice most of those folks are from a certain state. They have no conference pride or push to support other schools in the conference. It's always about them, woe is me. These will be the same schools scheduling ooc games with conference foes that are not on there conference schedule and not trying to play ooc games with other fcs conferences. They will be the first ones back in here and over there on sunday saying "I told you so".

Is that why ya'll show up 200 deep on the road? I'm asking for a friend.

I would be very surprised if they got a bid but would love to see them in the playoffs.

Prairie View doesn't have much of a shot of getting in the postseason.

What hurts their chances is a 39-point loss to Texas State (the 9th-place team in the Sun Belt) and scheduling Faith College. The Panthers only win of note was over Alcorn. But the Braves aren't even ranked in the FCS poll and have 7 others receiving votes compared to PV's 1.

If an HBCU were to get an at-large bid that does not include Grambling, NCAT or Alcorn State, it probably would be Bethune Cookman. They received 183 votes in the last FCS poll.

I think that the loss to Texas State may not hurt as much despite their finish in the Sun Belt, but the University of Faith does not help at all. My concern is the out of conference schedule.

BCU and PVAMU must win. If the computer rankings will have a say, the Wildcats have an edge right now over PV. Also, a few teams have to lose today.

I wonder how much did the old guard even pay attention to athletics.

I do not remember a counter being drafted.

I wonder if the option will be drafted.

I would be surprised if the administrators did something proactive or even reacted after this season despite today's results (JSU-PV, FAMU-BCU, and other games). Then again I have been surprised, sometimes pleasantly, in the past.

Who did PV schedule this season?

This campaign is already successful because of this (being featured on their Facebook page and Twitter account). The seeds are planted for future years when a SWAC team is in this position

Gotta plan accordingly for 2017 and beyond.

I don't understand y folks think Grambling and SU are against other schools going to the FCS playoffs. The Bayou Classic didn't stop anybody from going to the playoffs pre-SCG, the problem was teams getting the crap beat out of them. We do the best things for our programs, and if the rest of the SWAC wants to play in the playoffs, there are annual meetings to take a vote
