Yep the Toyota Center! Wanna know why? Ask me and I will tell you!

I am all ears. If one looked they would notice that the Hilton America's, Toyota Center and the George R. Brown Convention Center are right next to each other.

First, I have a question. How often was the Toyota Center used?

I think that Reliant was made for football and not baseball. However, the Superdome was made to hold baseball as well as football games. Hence, in the seats in the Superdome are further away from the football sidelines than in Reliant. So people in the Superdome may look further away than they do in Reliant.

As someone stated there is the Georgia World Congress Center, Georgia Dome and Phillips Arena, which are nearby. Plus there is MARTA and the downtown hotels. But I would be concerned with the gridlook in the city.

The Toyota Center is no where near large enough to hold the crowds that Essence attracts. Houston would've done better building a downtown football stadium from the beginning...but whats done is done.

oh, ok...well, I guess that makes sense.

Mike said that the other day. There are areas to walk and club and eat at ...in walking distance of the Toyota Center....Not sure if George R. Brown would be better for it or not.

Don't bring that isht to Dallas. The entire town'll be shut down before the first act is off the stage.

Cafe Brazil send help! :shame:

Not to knock NO..............but I doubt it will be ready for Essence next year. The Superdome is not the only thing to consider when you have over 200,000 people coming to your city for three days.

N O infrastructure is not ready to handle a large event yet.

As for Houston,

We screwed this big time base on YT! For those who was downtown that weekend. Did anyone notice a larger venue next to the Hilton empty?

Yep the Toyota Center! Wanna know why? Ask me and I will tell you!

Why?

"Jordy Tollet, president of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, said his office did its best to address transportation concerns. He said providing continuous shuttle service for the far-flung hotel block would have been an expensive undertaking costing between $300,000 and $400,000.

Tollet said his office was able to provide other services such as getting the Metropolitan Transit Authority to extend its rail line service hours and asking cab companies to provide discounts.

He said the bureau promoted the festival in other cities at no charge to the festival organizers, placed the event on more than 100,000 visitor guides and area hotels offered visitors discounts."

This dude dont give a rat azz about blacks (My Kanye West moment). I have work with the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau before during Superbowl. Anything dealing with blacks (unless you a bush fan) is out the question.

The NFL was looking for a location to have the Pre Game show practice sessions. They want a spot that was close to Reliant and located in Central Houston....do you know these bastards sent the NFL to high schools in West Houston and talked down about TSU! (Insider info). They (NFL) came to TSU anyway against the desire of the GHVBC and fell in love with the campus (Becasue I sold my school like it was the next best thing to crack).

Anyway, GHVBC had the perfect time to shine for African Americans coming to Houston. We are talking about millions of dollars flowing into the city and what the fcuk do they do?

Push people to use the rail!!!!!! Yes.....in addition, they did not want us! to crowd downtown! Nor run away people come to Minute Maid Park :slap:

The Toyota Center holds up to 19,000 for a concert...this would have been perfect because people could park and walk to all the events.

Houston, is not and will not be ready to host an event catered to African Americans.

Sorry for the rant but GHVBC can kiss my muthafcuking azz!

New Orleans will be ready for the Saints, Bayou Classic, Sugar Bowl and Essence Festival.

The city's tourist area are up and running. The Hyatt regency hotel, which was the most severely damaged is well ahead of schedule with it's renovations. The Sheraton, Mariott, Westin, and Hilton Riverside, which are the other mega hotels (35 plus stories) are all up an running. The Ritz Carlton is even back up I believe.

The only thing in New Orleans that will take time to come back are the neightborhoods. New Orleans east, ninth ward and eighth ward.

Houston can't complain "L" they got over $150 million dollars in tourist revenues between the Bayou Classic and Essence Festival. And they are crying the FEMA still owes the $10 million dollars!:smash:

Something else..........I forgot the Toyota Center didnt want you niggums tearing thier schit up anyway!

I was thinking it would have been better at the toyota Center...but that still wouldnt have been good for those who wanted to do shopping? the reliant is in the middle of galleria and downtown...but I understand that people are use to walking not driving everywhere.

You can't hold this type of concert in Minute during the season, because of the floor seating. Beside Drayton McClane (sp) the Astros Owner dayum sure don't like Black people. This is one of the main reasons the Astros are the "Whitest" team in Baseball year in year out.

Well FORK Houston and bring it back to NOLA!

We got a black playing this year.................a real one at that:smash:

LOL at delock!

Yeah Bruh, ole Preston Wilson is a token like a Mo-Fo!:lmao: They had no choice but to sign Preston after all of the heat they were under for having no black players for the last 2 to 3 seasons.

Bottom line in the Toyota Center is too small and Minute Maid won't allow stages of floor seating on the playing field during the season.

Diva, you are right about the shopping.....which i cannot understand why in the hell they let the Park go to hell.

We Houston people are used to driving....Hell, when I go to Chicago I still rent a car  .

But, for folks coming to the city for the first time you would want to have everything within a nice distance of one another.

Sidebar.....If you are going to push people to use the rail. Why in the hell Metro could not offer a express train from Downtown to Reliant? We are talking about the weekend! Every other train should have been an express to move people faster between the venues................

Damn, sometime I hate living in Houston!!!!!!!!:redhot:

They had mardi gras and jazz fest this year. Mardi Gras drew more than 200k.

J4J, the seating capacity the Reliant is bigger than the Superdome, but the Superdome is a multi-use arena, and from what I've seen of both, Reliant doesn't offer the huge conference rooms that the Superdome does. Did they have the Superlounges this year?

Hopefully Essence will return to New Orleans next year, but I doubt it, unless the work in the Superdome is finished totally. It will be ready for football this year, but that's only Phase I of the SD's refurbishment, and Phase II will begin when the football season ends. From the things I've read about what they're going to do to it, especially if they knock some of the outer walls out on the Lodge/Club section of the dome to add windows it may not be done.

delock from a hotel standpoint New Orleans will be ready, and with new hotels opening next year, and the few damaged hotels that are still closed, will also be opened by that time next year.

Again, I think they'll be pushing it, to get the SD ready for other things besides football, but a lot of things will become much more clear of New Orleans' future after this hurricane season blows by.

Though I enjoyed my time in Houston for the Bayou Classic, one of the things I saw for the BC that I didn't like was the lack of hospitality in the hotels. I mean asking for something as simple as directions to Reliant Stadium was like pulling teeth from those front desk folk. With that stadium being an attraction in Houston, I would think they would have directions already printed out, but they didn't, and it wasn't like I was staying at Motel 6, we were in the Wyndham.

Also, the BC, and Essence Crowd's, are all night party crowds, with just about every club closing at the 2 am hour, you're gonna get a lot of complaints from out of town patrons, because if you're coming from a city that keeps the clubs open late, being asked to roll out at 2 is gonna hurt. Especially if the concerts are letting out around those same times. The NBA, NFL, and MLB crowds are mostly corporate parties, so there isn't a problem with the 2 am lockdown.

I know folk come to town to party for the Superbowl, and All Star games, but more than likely they won't be going to the games themselves, so being in the club when those games are over is not a problem, but when you have an established event, and folk are used to doing things the way they were done in the past, that becomes a problem, when those same things can't be done. If it was a brand new event, I don't think there would be as many complaints

Again I enjoyed my time there for the BC, and any other time I've (mainly because I knew people), but if you're not familiar with Houston it's a nightmare trying to find your way around. These types of events is where Houston's size hurts it, because everything is so spread out.

The big events that are held here in DC, you see people (party promoters, and club employee's) everywhere directing traffic, and hustling. Whether it's in the streets, at the hotels, the malls, they make sure you know where the happenings are, they may not tell you how much it's going to cost after a certain time, but you'll definitely know where things are.....lol.....and those are things I didn't see in Houston.

NICE

This is true...I guess since I have family in Houston it was no big deal to me...I had things to do, regardless...and the clubs weren't on my list. BUT, I can't wait until EVERYTHING returns to New Orleans.

I appreciate Htown opening up their doors to us, though.

But what did they expect? H-town on a normal day is congested and unless you are leaving from one corner going to the next, it always take me at least 40 to get from A to B.

I agree with this. I've always said that the 2am closing law is ridiculous for a major city.

Yeah, but do you know how far that shat is from the party spots, etc.... I was there for a conference in March and I didn't even feel like I was in the ATL.

....how was the gridlock in Houston. ATL is gridlock city.
