We don't take advantage of "circumstances"... Don't know if NC A&T would be interested, but I have a good feeling that fans would turn out to see a "Doug vs B'way" matchup in the PCC in Shreveport ... the turnaround game could be played at a "neutral" site in Carolina, maybe Charlotte. Last year's PCC was hyped as Doug vs Spears... let's make the next one Doug vs B'way!

It's a shame that we need all these classics to get folks to come to games. True supporters and fans should come regardless of the matchups, especially if the team is above average.

We're competing for entertainment dollar in a stressed environment... In North La, High school football is King (Friday nite) and Saturday is hunting day for lots of folks. All 3 universities in the region have attendance issues that are impacted by Friday night high school football and Saturday hunting!

These classics with the exception of a few need to moved out of these big ass stadiums and into 30K-40K seat stadiums. A sold out 30K seat stadium is better than a fourth filled 70K seat stadium.

I've always felt that the SWAC (and MEAC) needs to expand it's footprint into each other's "turf" and play each other on a more consistent basis to build up rivalries.

That would be interesting for sentimental reasons only. Grambling would murder A&T

I concur. The top programs should always play. It's what the fans want. It is crazy FAMU has not played JSU or GSU for years.

Both are valid points.... the MCC, FC, SHC... good right where they are. The BC just needs both SU and GSU to be good at the same time consistently and I think their numbers will go back up.

Don't forget about the State Fair Classic.
 
I also think the MEAC and SWAC should support some of the neutral site classics as well. While I dont want my school going back to playing in one every year, I think the games in Indy, Chicago, detroit, NY and STL do a great job of exposing potential students to HBCUs. All of the schools should sent reps to the city that week to spend a day or two at the high school. I mean from sending a biology professor to demonstrate experiments to history professors doing seminars. Have alumni in the area do a career day at the school. Then cap it off with a citywide college fair. With some of our schools needing an enrollment boost, that would be great exposure. Having an HBCU at every high school that will have us, along with their alumni would make applications soar.

responding the the thread, we need to play better FCS teams regularly.
yes, our current scheduling system doesn't really allow this but if our AD and President can't or choice not to change to scheduling system, we should see, expect, drive them to setup games with strong FCS programs and years in advance. this money game thing should be every so often but not a yearly standard or expectation for a school. now with setup these FCS games, the concern is how much money to invest. the school should focus on that local FCS (not just other HBCUs) that will not be so much of on travel and try to get an agreement on a home and home series.

on the current trend... it seems like there are more classics than needed. these are great atmospheres and most provide great events surrounding the game. unfortunately, those seems to be the money maker for a football season for a lot schools within a season. it would be great if schools learn how to spread the classic experience(without sponsors) to general popular games. using their strengths to their advantage.
