PITBULLS SMDH SMDH!!!!

I LOVE most all dogs but I don't like pits At All... They are different.... and they look so mean....I have a dog, an australian silky. We have him trained pretty good and he knows not to growl at us for anything. Not even with his food. But we had to start that from the moment we got him as a pup and we had to be strictly consistent. Couldn't let up for a moment. Now he knows he has to sit patiently until his bowl is fixed and we can even feed him by hand if we desired to.... He also knows his place in the "pack order"... He is at the bottom of the totem pole, lol... Even though, because he is natural protector, we don't let guests play with him while he's eating.... Especially my little neices and nephews....Because no matter how trained a dog is, if it has teeth, it will bite! And Food aggression is a really dangerous thing for any dog to have...I know a lot of dogs do growl when someone approaches their food bowl and if you know your dog does that, keep him away from guests while eating. Because if he happens to bite someone "who doesn't know any better", the owner could be responsible for damages...
GUD I am so glad that you are ok and escaped with your life! Wow...
Now that is a no no. My lil Maltese don't weigh but 10lbs and he will growl at you for messing with his food. Never touch a dogs food. They don't play about that food.

Thanks Doc!!!

sorry to hear you were bitten.

that dog should be put down. back in the days, a pit that showed aggression towards humans was immediately put down; and that was the rule from lifelong dogmen who bred and matched pits for money. that was just a bad trait to have, period, and not one to be tolerated under any circumstances. same with food aggression; not to be tolerated under any circumstances. noone ever said "well, i know not to pet ____ while he/she is eating because..."; no, that's something you get a handle on while the dog is a puppy, because you're supposed to be teaching the dog who the leader of the pack is.

back in the day, the instances of a notable dogman keeping a "manbiter" on his yard was so rare, you can today talk to people who are knowledgeable about pits and they could tell you who the dogman was, who the dog was, and the reason why the dog was kept, which always came down to success in the pit (money), but those dogs weren't bred. sadly, this isn't the case today, and more pits that show human aggression are being kept and even bred.

lotta people have pits, and don't know anything about how to raise, train, and socialize em. too many have pits that are the result of "backyard breeders," and don't come from quality bloodlines.

richard stratton, one of the most respected dogmen in the country, when asked about the pitbulls propensity to attack, said something to the extent of, "A pitbull (well-bred and socialized) is much less likely to attack than any other breed of dog, but if they do attack, they're gonna do a lot more damage than any other breed of dog."

Bottom line: Probably 3/4 of the people who currently own these dogs today shouldn't have one, and the same goes for the overwhelming number of people breeding and selling them.

Wow! That is messed up. Glad you okay dude. Man folks need to realize all dog will bite. I hate folks who don't control their pets.

The point there.

Further, if you don't want to get bit by a dog, don't own one, go don't around one and run like hell when countered by one (Unless you're willing to kill it before it kills you)
