Having said that, I am an action movie junkie so you figure a certain amount of profanity and other stuff comes with the territory but this movie proved it can be done and be entertaining with Black folk in leading rolls.

Yes, because this is the first mainstream black movie where that was the case lol. Again, folks were being so extra with this movie... don't know how that can be denied. Went out and actually bought African clothing to wear, showed up in record numbers....lined Disney's pockets quite well. I'm not mad at Disney though, it was pretty smart. You bring in the casual black folks that didn't follow the comics for a black casted movie, then turn around and draw those folks back in a few weeks later when the Avengers movie drops and rake in even more dough. Excellent strategy on their behalf. If black folks showed up in even half the numbers they did for this movie... well nvm.

When Avengers comes out I won't be seeing until it hits cable or if I do go it will be weeks later.

NO they won't because the books is the OPPOSITE of the movie. Even HARDCORE Black Panther readers hate the current book where Wakanda is showcased as Hotel Rwanda-with rape camps and this black men abuse black women crap. If the comic was like the movie it would still be doing high sales instead of mediocre sales.

All this film did was boost the sales of TRADES where every single Black Panther trade and kids book are top sellers and are beating the CRAP out of books like Batman. And this was happening before the first trailer came out.

This is not the first black superhero film-Blade say HI. This is the first black movie where you saw a TON of support be it film budget, toys, merchandise and promotion. Disney took the risk and are getting rewarded for this. They filled in that DEMAND for black lead stuff that was not stereotypical and the icing on the cake was the positive images of black women-especially DARK SKINNED ONES.

This film has done BETTER in one week than the entire run of Justice League. And comic book fans are looking at DC to counter but they have RUINED so many black heroes that they have NONE to counter Black Panther. And yes that includes Cyborg. And no they do not own Static (Static Shock Cartoon) he is own by BLACK FOLKS.

Generally the same type of people who didn't lift a finger or donate a dime post-katrina but was asking "where is Oprah?" Or "where is Beyonce?" After hurricane harvey.
 
Ok I’ll just get it out of the way Shaft says hi. But on a serious note can we just be happy that we have a majority black cast with a young, hungry, black film director? Folks always trying to piss on other folks parade. I didn’t see this outrage when white folks were dressing up like Harry Potter. Geez

You mean the same Oprah who just donated a bunch of money to those Florida high school kids rallying for gun control but ain’t did shit for young black people rallying and marching against social injustice and police brutality?

And the same Black woman who helped build low income housing in Houston. And if I am not mistaken the same Black woman who helped support Corretta Scott-King in her waning years.

It is amazing how some folk always want to tell people how to spend money they worked HARD for....just baffles me.

Corretta’s home was getting robbed and Oprah (not Corretta’s kids) moved her into a safer home. Plus she paid for Coretta’s funeral. This stuff didn’t come from Oprah’s mouth by the way. Just like folks didn’t know how much money Prince was giving to the movement until after he died.

I have lived long enough to know the media will report on what they want to report and ignore what they want to ignore and most Black folk don't talk about their good deeds.
 
I almost didn't go see Black Panther when I heard it was based on a comic book character. I did not know Blade was a comic book character until after I saw the movie.

Prince was also fairly vocal in his public support of the BLM movement. That hasn't been the case with Oprah, whose only real public comments regarding the movement were the erroneous notions that it lacked leadership and had no clearly stated goals.

No leaders within the BLM movement, or even grassroots level movements, have ever said they've gotten any kind of financial OR vocal support from her.

She, unabated, PUBLICLY decided to just give money to those kids in Florida because she was "moved" by their cause.

Of course not, that would be goofy, but she can be both praised for her support of students at Morehouse and other causes while being critiqued for her timid at best support of black people protesting police brutality.

I don’t see the harm in helping those kids out. Oprah did help push the documentary 13th which she light on a lot of the issues we face. I can see your point though. Good debate.
