Note: Statement about not wearing seat belt may be inaccurate; there is a belief now that the seat belt may have failed.

A woman injured in a rollover accident near West died at a local hospital Monday morning.

Lorna W. Bailey, 22, of Fort Worth, died at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center a day after she was thrown from her car in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 35, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Eric Walters said.

Bailey, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier with her lifelong friend Shayna Woods, 21, on their way to Prairie View A&M University when her car left the roadway and flipped, Walters said. Authorities initially reported the two were in a Jeep.

Bailey was taken by helicopter to the hospital. Wood, who was wearing her seat belt, was treated for minor cuts and bruises and then released from Hillcrest, according to Justice of the Peace Fernando Villarreal, who pronounced Bailey dead.

Walters said the reason Bailey?s car went off the road is unknown, but a witness said she saw the driver overcorrect when two of the tires went off the road.

The wreck shut down southbound I-35 for about 90 minutes Sunday, the trooper said.
