Outkast turns Oprah down

Maybe they turned her down because their airing would have happened in September when the movie will be out in August. Maybe they wondered why advertise a movie AFTER it has premiered.

This came out on yesterday. They turned her down because they are rappers and have rapped about negative things. Why should they be singled out?

Big boi wanted to , but Andre 3000 didn't. So they made promises to themselves when they first started that if they didn't have each others 100% support, it was a no go on everything. The dudes did go through a rift at one time, but now thye are cool.

To each is own...

JR peaks in thread ......looks around........ here we go again. LOL

My only comments are that Outkast is one of the few rap goups who actually has some substance to their material. I am a huge fan of them and have been since day 1.

I respect their stand on their decision not to go on Oprah.
I also respect Oprah's point of view since she has that right and admire her for what she has done.......but I do think this whole battle with her versus the hip hop community is somewhat hypocritical.

I think she just like anybody else has her picks of who she likes and don't like.
She loves Jamie Foxx........yet Jamie does stand up comedy that calls women names. So does Dave Chappelle and he has been on her show. I look at the rappers no different than the movie industry, comedians etc... Some of Oprahs biggest sponsors promote stuff for other TV shows that is degrading. We all know it. Does she ask them not to sponsor her show? Or give back their advertising dollars. So when an actor or actress protrays a part in a film that is degrading should she not have them on her show. I am a John Travolta fan just like Oprah is........but hasn't he played roles that degrade women.....call them names etc........ I know it is acting but just like rap it is a form of entertainment. But does she ask him why he takes those roles?

I think that is the fundamental argument the hip hop community has with her. Don't get me wrong. I do not approve of all the mess that is on the airwaves either. But I just find it a bit hypocritical that the TV world she lives in is just as guilty as the rappers for the stuff they put out. I guess she shouldn't ever speak to Bob Johnson or Debra Lee at BET. See where I am going with this.

JR will exit this thread ducking and dodging the Oprah haymakers that will be coming. :D

There may actually be some valid comments made in the thread...why are we rushing to close it down?
