It is harder to hit that many homers now because a batter is facing three, four or five different pitchers during a game who all throw hard as hell armed with solid secondary pitches. When Ruth played, a starter would stay in the whole game regardless of how well he pitched during an outing. There was no just go 5, 6 or 7 inning back then.

Less skilled as in a lot of these cats go through the AAU circuits and get by strictly on athleticism. The one-and-dones (and two-and-dones) get one year of real coaching and then generally get 2-3 year of OTJ training in the league. Some come in like Okufor, CAT or Wiggins and can make an immediate impact but the league is full of Marvin Williams-types that are athletic but that's it. That and the rule changes are what has brought down the quality IMO.

How many big men in the day could handle the ball and had an all around game like Anthony Davis or Kevin Durant?

When is the last time you've been around an AAU program?
 
Man, bring back the "real" fouls. These fouls we see now have totally changed the game. If y'all want to talk about "REAL GAME CHANGERS", then let's talk about these new age fouls.
 
Steph is great but if they called fouls the same way they did back in the day they would have lost last night. The foul on Westbrook the play where Ibaka blocked Curry's shot, would not have been a foul (-2 points from the score) and the next possession when Klay did the up and under and barely got touched, they called a and 1)which wouldn't have been called. Those calls would be laughed at on the play ground. Steph is revolutionary but I understand how the old heads are saying he is the beneficiary of a soft era
 
You guys are right. They didn't call touch fouls back in the day. You had to hit a guy with a steel chair before the refs called anything.

Jordan never got calls. You could put your hands all over him and the officials would swallow their whistles.

I guess Kareem was 6-6, Willis Reed was 6-6, Bill Russell was 6-6 and for you guys that know Basketball, a lot of the centers that in the HOF played against Wilt and they were not 6-6. Nate Thurman, Bob Lanier, George Mikan and Walt Bellamy were all 6-6 as well according to you guys. Please! Those center were 6-9 to 7foot, and that included John Thompson. Wilt was just great, but for me Kareem was the greatest ever. All time leading scorer and did not have to shoot three's to do it.

I love Steph Curry, but let his career play out before he is called the greatest ever.

Now I do agree with that! Wilt, Shaq, Kareem was beaten to death in the post! But the people that want to anoint Jordan fails to mentioned that!

Ok Kareem....That's ONE. Wills Reed and Bill Russell were 6'9. LeBron James is 6'9 and Kevin Durant is 6'11 with handles. Dirk Nowitzki is 7'0 and can hit 30 footers Carry on.....

Nate Thurman, Bob Lanier were 6-11. So now 6-9 is not tall, since you guys brought up the point that everyone was 6-6 that played against Wilt. Funny that now the height is 6-9 when we show you that all the post players were not 6-6. Dirk is soft as puddy along with Durant. James is the talented one with no heart. You have have Dirk and I will take Willis Reed any day of the week, who by the way was 6-10. And those guys you mentioned should not be even mentioned in the same conversation as Kareem.

It's funny folks talking about how "soft" the players are but yet these athletes are bigger, faster, and stronger. It's common sense. Skill is skill. Again you folks are quick to point out the advantages of today's game but fail to point out the advantages the great players of earlier years enjoyed. I'd take a young Shaq over Kareem any day of the week and I'd take Steph Curry over Oscar Robinson.
 
And you folks talking about how "tough" basketball was "back in the day" surely enjoyed watching those tape-delayed NBA Finals games.

And what would Shaq do if he could not dunk, because that was his best shot? Kareem had a go to shot and shot at least 70% from the line while Shaq, like Wilt could not shoot free-throws. He also led the league in block shot and and rebounds, which the young Shaq never did in his career. Tell me what advantages the players from yesterday had? Please tell me! The players of today are bigger, stronger, faster and want a whistle blown every time the defender sneezes on them. Especially that soft Durrant and softy Dirk. Heck, Durrant is not even the best player on his team, that title goes to Westbrook. Now if you mentioned Kobe who is today's killer, along with D-Wade, then you are talking about players that could have played in any era!

The Big O was the master of the triple double, is Steph doing that? No! But if you read my post, I do not slight Steph's game, he can not only shoot, but now is developing a go to the basket game and the rest of the NBA should be very scared of him.

Dude Kareem was 225 pounds. Shaq was 325 since you bring up physicality soooooo much who you think would be more physical???? He had a go to shot because he was being D'd up on folks 6'9 while he was 7'2. Hell Pistol Pete averaged 50 points a game in college but guess what???? I'd take Allen Iverson and Russell Westbrook before him. I don't care what The Big O did. He averaged a triple double against lesser skilled players and smaller players than in today's game.
 
Y'all dun went from discussing the lack of defense on a 6'5" shooting guard to how big the centers were compared to Wilt back in the day. It may not be a complete left turn but it sure as hell is a fork in the road. Lol....

And I don't know what a taped delayed game has to do with any of this. ROTFLMAO!!!!! @ y'all.
