Oprah Reportedly Interested in Purchasing Los Angeles Clippers

Oprah Winfrey is the latest big-name celebrity reportedly showing interest in becoming at least a partial owner of the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.

ESPN.com reports Oprah would be part of a group also including DreamWorks SKG and Asylum Records founder David Geffen as well as Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. The latter duo has been previously rumored as potential buyers, but it's the first time Oprah has been linked to the team:

The report from ESPN also lists Floyd Mayweather Jr., Sean Combs and Magic Johnson among the other notable people connected to possible bids since NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned Donald Sterling for life with the intention of forcing a sale.

Who do you think will run the team if Oprah's money is behind it. LOL. You do know Oprah loves some Magic and Cookie. She ain't going to run it. And the NBA owners get to vote WHO wins out. You think they rather have Oprah over Magic? Really? C'mon on man.

Mayweather don't have that kind of loot or folks to back him to buy the Clippers. He is rich but not Billionaire rich or run in Billionaire circles that would allow him to be the face of their investment. No way the NBA voted him in as an owner even if he had cash money to pay for the team by himself. LOL.

Oprah needs to sit her butt down somewhere.
Sit her wide load but down.
What she gonna do with a bunch of black men that love strippers. Ban them from the team like she bann LUDA from her show for saying BYOTCH and HO when he was pubbing "CRASH". :lmao:

Magic Johnsons GROUP that purchased the LA Dodgers for $1 billion will be #1 on the list if the team is ever put up for sale. What person or group would be a better fit to own that team in LA? Everybody else is just fooling themselves.

Larry Ellison, the billionare owner of ORACLE just screwed himself by putting OPRAH in his group. Those owners will never let her get any parts of a NBA team. Ellison has been trying to buy a NBA team for over a decade now. He could have got by if he just stood with Hollywood Heavyweight David Geffen. That would have been his LA inside ticket.

The Ellison, Geffen, Oprah group are probably frontrunners right now. They can make this deal with cash. The Magic Johnson group is probably leveraged to the tilt with the recent Dodgers buy.

For those who say Orpah wouldn't get the owners ok, why do you say that? I'm not a big fan of hers, but you can't doubt her clout and resources. Same thing with Geffen and Ellison.

Approximate Networth (Keep in mind all of these people would have investors and only have part ownership)

1) Oprah Winfrey 2.9 Billion
2) Magic Johnson 770 million
3) Sean Combs 700 million
4) Tyler Perry 400 million
5) Floyd Mayweather 216 million

Let's not forget that Mayweather had his own racist moment a few years ago with Pacquaio that's on the net.

Oprah (a billionaire herself) and Magic seems like the frontrunners to me (Harpo is a surprise to me) but I would not rule out Puffy. We know he has one billionaire investor for sure (Ciroc) and I'm sure he's buddy buddy enough with a few more who would back him.

And out of that group, the most important thing to the NBA is who know the NBA, who know about running a sports franchise, and who would be the right face for the CLIPPERS under these circumstances.

And do you know who Magics partners are?
Guggenheim Partners.............Net worth / assets $210 billion
Magic is playing with real heavyweights. Oprah and and the rest on that list are fleas buzzing around their faces financially. :lmao:

Guggenheim Partners LLC
In May 2009, Guggenheim Partners acquired a controlling interest in financial services firm Transparent Value LLC.[13] In July 2009, it acquired Claymore Group, a firm known for its Exchange-traded funds and unit investment trusts.[14] In February 2010, Guggenheim Partners acquired Security Benefit Corp, parent company of Rydex Funds.[15] In October 2011, it acquired the life insurance company EquiTrust from FBL Financial Group.[16]

In March 2012, Guggenheim Baseball Management acquired the Los Angeles Dodgers team for $2.15 billion in cash.[17] The consortium consisted of Guggenheim controlling partner Mark Walter, former Los Angeles Laker Magic Johnson and partners Peter Guber, Stan Kasten, Bobby Patton and Todd Boehly.[18] The acquisition includes the surrounding land and parking lot of Dodger Stadium.[19] Mark Walter said of the acquisition: "It's a lot of money, but if we do our jobs right...the long-term point of view is that people will see that the value was there." [20]

That September, Guggenheim bought a stake in the entertainment production company Dick Clark Productions,[21] which produces specials such as the American Music Awards and the Golden Globe Awards and other television programming.

In February 2014, the Guggenheim Group bought the WNBA team, the Los Angeles Sparks.[22]

And that is just the sports side of things they own and run.
They paid $2.15 billion CASH for the Dodgers............CASH!!!! That is almost every dime that OPRAH has to her name.
.

With Oprah's connections, I'm not prepared to say she could not put together a group that couldn't handle this purchase.......It appears she already has.

Oprah, David Geffen, Oracle's Ellison to Bid for Clippers

Oprah Winfrey is teaming up with billionaires David Geffen and Larry Ellison to make a bid to buy the Los Angeles Clippers from disgraced owner Donald Sterling.

Geffen told ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap on Wednesday that billionaire Oprah, who owns the TV network OWN, would just be an investor, while he would run the team with Ellison, the CEO of Oracle.

Magic's access to multiple Billionaire's is what set him apart. He can't compete by himself with his own money. Oprah trumps them on that. But he sure can get some big names backing his play. That mofo will fugg around and have Steven Spielberg or George Lucas come in with him. LOL. Folks got to understand just how connected Magic is and that the NBA is trying to figure out a way to get him in the league just like they did with MJ. They don't want Oprah involved and would vote her down. They would support Condolezza Rice owning a team if she had the money over Oprah. LOL.

They got the money. But would she be able to get the vote from the other MEN owners in the NBA. That will be the issue. It is not the loot. That group definitely can afford to buy the Clippers. It's can she convince them other owners to come play on their island.

Then the other thing is Sterling still has to sell the team. Even though they are forcing him out. He will sell to whom he thinks he can get his money and not be held up on some NBA vote approving the new owner.

It's going to be very interesting. It's my understanding that this isn't Geffin's first Rodeo with the NBA. I tend to agree with a lot you're saying but am not 100% sure how this is going to turn out in terms of a prospective purchase. And then I also wonder how long and if that old goat can tie this situation up in litigation if he is inclined to do so. I saw Floyd Mayweather on ABC news declaring his interest and talking about his "team." IMHO, he is the least likely to be able to pull off this type of acquisition.

Yeah it will be. It may be others who declare they want the team. I agree with you on Mayweather. He has no chance. Now maybe they let him invest a small percentage with some group. But I can't see him getting anyone to back him as the lead guy and put their money up to sit in the background while he does his Money Mayweather act. LOL.

I am actually shocked Oprah would want to be involved in a sports franchise. Doesn't seem to be her interest. And since she is so close to Magic and Cookie. I would have thought she would join forces with him and his folks. One thing we know. This whole episode is bringing attention to the NBA big time. LOL.
