Onnidan's Final 2001 Black College Football Poll. Tuskegee#1, Grambling#2

I hate to tell you this, but when the final Sheridan Poll comes out, let me know then!!

I won't be surprised if the Sheridon poll comes down the same way. This is the typical "slap the SWAC in the face 'cause they don't play in the I-AA touney so their champion can't be the best HBCU football team" voting bias that always comes down from the heavily East Coast voting base for these polls.

They love the playoffs and view them as justifying the level of talent that teams have.

When will they learn?

Regards.

FINAL 2001 BCSP TOP 10
1. TUSKEGEE (11-1) - Upset loss to Morehouse prevents back-to-back perfect seasons for Rick Comegy's Golden Tigers. Repeat SIAC and Pioneer Bowl champs.

1. (tie) GRAMBLING STATE (10-1) - One touchdown from a perfect season, Doug Williams' Tigers gain share of 2001 top spot after finishing just behind Tuskegee last year. Repeated as SWAC champions.

They see 'Skegee listed first and run away with it.

3. TENNESSEE StATE (8-3) - Blue Tigers dominated black college opponents, struggled in OVC.

If Grambling was tied for first, Why were they listed second, G comes
before T in the alphabet. Who was ranked second? Looks like
they skipped second because they knew they would offend people if they actually listed Grambling second.

What does it matter who was listed 1st??? The numbers say they are TIED at #1.

Kinda reminds me of folk who get financing together or buys a car. They'll scream, "my name is on top," as if that makes them special. They both are equally responsible for the debt, regardless of who's intending to pay. And they equally own a car, regardless of who's name is on top of the title.

Tie means tie. I say they punked out and didn't wanna make somebody an outright winner. Maybe it was Gram. Maybe it wasn't.

I stopped caring about these polls in the '80s when JSU was killing BCF and couldn't get one BCF title. Only black school that would beat us was Tenn. State (every other year), but we couldn't get squat from those East Coast polls. Screw 'em.

You can see the bias with them doing it with TU being put first. They put all the teams tied for 10th place in alphabet order.

10. BETHUNE-COOKMAN (6-4) - Tied for third in MEAC.

(TIE). FORT VALLEY STATE (8-3) - Same record as Tuskegee in SIAC, lost in first round of Div. II playoffs.

(TIE) MOREHOUSE (8-2) - Same record as Tuskegee in SIAC, only team to defeat Golden Tigers.

(TIE) VIRGINIA UNION (8-3) - CIAA champs dumped by Tuskegee
in Pioneer Bowl.

I would like to see the actually voting numbers to see if they really was tied or if onidan is just trying to passify(sp) both teams especially after TU's coach go on the offensive about his team being #1.

JUST A LITTLE HINT WHY THOSE GODEN TIGERS ARE LISTED FIRST

Remember, TU is the defending national champion and also 11-1 is better than 10-1.

Now, normally when there is a tie in a poll, the teams are listed in alphabetical order!! Regardless of the records!! It's normal for them to list ties in standing in alphabetical order!! They did it for last place, why not for first place!!

This stinks of Comegy's whining, crying, and complaning!!

ANTROY,

Your memory is bad. Doug Williams was whining last year and also earlier in the 2001 season. If Comegy's statements were that powerful, then he is a bad man. As I indicated to another poster on a different site- "DON'T MAJOR IN THE MINORS."

:D

Comegy should stop crying, and schedule a game against Gram, I'm sure Doug wouldn't have a problem playing them. I'm a firm believer in strength of schedule, and Gram obviously has the tougher of the two, not to mention, they're a top 10 team in the 1-AA National Poll.

The fact that they play in D-II should do away with all doubt, who the rightful champion is. You won't hear Montana screaming about being the rightful overall champion in college football.

Just because you beat one school on the next level (mind you it's a long standing rivalry), doesn't mean you should be on the same level. 'L', NW St beat TCU, but you don't hear their coach campainging that his team should have been the one playing Texas Tech in the galleryfurniture.com bowl, because they beat a team on the next level.

I'm not taking anything away from what his team has accomplished, because to only lose 2 games in 2 years is remarkable in itself, but don't cry over a mythical championship. Especially if you're not campaigning to play a certain team, or campaigning to move up in competition (non conference games against A&T, BCC, FAMU, GSU, JSU, SU, or TSU) to end the argument, as to who's the rightful champ.

NICE

G-Nice,

Setting it straight: Tuskegee has only lost one (1) game in the last two years (12-0 in 2000 and 11-1 in 2001)!!! The reason we are having this discussion is because we all know that D2 and 1AA HBCU football is similiar in term of the final product and 1AA folks do not want it to be that way. It hurts their so-called superiority image. 1AA HBCUs have had very little success vs. 1AA PWCs and nearly none against 1A PWC. D2s have been more successful vs. 1AA HBCUs. Nothing stated on this site will change our opinions or your's; therefore, we are wasting time discussing this matter.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Play a season (a whole ten games) in the SWAC (or the Meac) and then holla about being the "HCBU" champs......

Till then.........ya'll don't even exist to us.
("L" what's the point of being the "Self-proclaimed" champions if your own people won't recognize you?? Not because of your accomplishments....but because of the facts: The Meac and the SWAC have tougher schedules....flat out. )

Just asking...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

What success has Tuskegee had against D2 and 1AA PWC's ? What 1AA HBCUs of merit have the ones in D2 beaten?
When you are dealing with state rivalries and bragging rights, you can throw everything else out of the window because the majority of those games go to the team that wants it the most.

Play a season in the SWAC? "burp. yaawwn."

Give TU 63 scholarships under the direction of Comegy and TU would be just fine in the SWAC.

Keep up the good work TUSports. :D

TELL YOURSELF SOMETHING LONG ENOUGH AND YOU WILL START TO BELIEVE ANYTHING.

You peeps place too much on the word scholarship. Just because a person was good in high school and got one doesn't mean he is gonna perform the same way in college. Some of the best players have been walk-ons so stop the BS with if TU had 63 scholarships they would be fine in the SWAC cause they wouldn't.

Telling and believing? Nothing to tell. Just extrapolate.

Just extrapolate from what is known. Comegy is a heck of a coach/motivator/winner that gets the most out of the least resources in a smaller division and wins. Just imagine if he had more resources and scholarships.

Yeah roadblock, in a way you make a good point. Perhaps that would explain how little Tuskegee et al smaller programs with fewer scholarships manage to beat opponents with more scholarships and larger enrollment. Yet another testiment to the coaching prowess of Comegy and the winning tradition and pride in the program at TU. Other than that, you can't say unequivically that Comegy having the ability to sign more talent would not make him easily competitive in the SWAC. The only reason you and the rest would say otherwise is because this is merely a Tuskegee verses "the SWAC" pissing contest on a message board.

How does Tuskegee rank? This was before the end of the the season. I suspect the ranking could not be worse since Tuskegee has not lost since this poll:

South

1. Valdosta State (11-0)
2. *Tuskegee (8-1)
3. Catawba (9-1)
4. Fort Valley State (8-2)
5. Central Arkansas (9-2)
6. Virginia Union (8-2)
7. Arkansas Tech (8-2)
8. Tusculum (8-1)
9. Morehouse (8-2)
10. Winston-Salem State (8-3)

Division II poll as of December 17, 2001 listed below:

1. North Dakota Fighting Sioux
2. Grand Valley State (MI) Lakers
3. Catawba (NC) Indians
4. Valdosta State Blazers
5. California-Davis Aggies
6. Saginaw Valley State (MI) Cardinals
7. Chadron State (NE) Eagles
8. Indiana (PA) Indians
9. Tuskegee (AL) Golden Tigers
10. Tarleton State (TX) Texans

That looks like the USAToday AFCA Coache's poll, not NCAA.

Just depends on which poll you are talking about.
