No, that was our "crack" at them. Something that we would get booo'ed out of Baton Rogue for in this day and age.

We used to always play the Alcorn fight song during our halftime show against them.

I also liked that 1989 halftime battle between SU and JSU. It was JSU's homecoming.

I REALLY want to see the electric chair show. I was there that night but it was soooo long ago, I vaguely remember it. I think it was JSU Homecoming 1990.

After speaking with someone from SU... come to find out it couldnt have been a crack since the song came out that year... With the song coming out that year, SU didnt have a "staple" on the song like they do now. I could understsand if the song came out 10 or even 5 years before.

Wow!! I thought that song was like 50 years old. It was an actual radio tune in the 80's??

BTW, have you ever heard Alcorn play it?? :lmao:

That song was out before 90'... It was on the radio in New Orleans and Baton Rouge maybe around late 88' or 89'.. Rebirth has a few new member in their band now..

The cat in the back far right "Kabuki" taught me when I first picked up the horn, he actually taught me and the guy (top second from end on the left Shamar) Both me and Shamar took jazz lessons together.. Kabuki had a contract with Quincy Jones but screwed it up fooling around with drugs....smh
Real good trumpet player though... He was the first cat I ever heard hit a Grand G.....

I have that tape. That was JSU?s Homecoming 1990 and a guy in a Texas Southern band uniform was strapped into the electric chair, the guy had on a mask that looked like one of the Wizard of Oz's wicked witch?s flying monkeys.

My favorites would be:

1983 JSU Homecoming (SU played Raid for the dance Routine, however the knockout blow was Soul Train in the Stands before 55,000) (JSU played Electricity and was still dancing and playing)

1986 (Word Up drill from J-State, You Bring Me Joy, J- Settes, and the POP goes the BOOM) ( SU countered with a rotating bax drill that the announcer told the BOOM to get a pen and paper and copy that down!!! Walkin In the Rain/Four Box You Be Illin Dance Routine was Stellar!!!)

1989 ( Cold Hearted Snake Drill, and Rollin With Kid and Play Four Box Dance Routine, Skin Im In in The 5th was CLASSIC!!!), ( Heat of the moment Drill, Gettin Funky Dance Routine into J S U Rock the House skit was tight)

Exactly. My old band director's (Roddrick Paulin) father wrote the actual song Do What You Wanna.

I finally got it man I've been looking for that footage for a long time it just halftime tho I'am still looking for the stand footage

I need to find the stand footage from the Su vs. Jsu game from 1990 I heard it went down that day .

I have EVERY JSU show from 1989. :)

That battle between JState and SU was classic! SU was doing the thing on that Rollin' w/ Kid and Play.. and so was The Boom!

We borrowed a uniform from Lanier High School.............
And Willie Brown was the guy under the mask.........

Tapemaster do you finally have a copy of the SU/FAMU game91? If you do give me holla!

Dog, I need to see this! I was a crab at SU in '91 and the footage from that never made it out of Miami. We got booed from the moment the plane landed until maybe halfway thru the second quarter (there were a bunch of FLa high schools there). By the time halftime was over they were all sitting in front of us amazed. By the 5th they were trying to audition and get applications. It was the biggest fan reversal I have ever seen. FAMU was booed marching out. I guess when thats all you know, thats all you know! SU was like bright beacon of hope for these kids( only about 9 came to SU over the next three years, but now their eyes had been opened!)
