What ever happened to the old spanish tunes like SPAIN! These tunes were very powerful and you could drill for days. I wonder if they will ever come back; Real Powerful Tunes. Think about it.

I think Valley played it. My HS (Callaway) and Provine HS played it I believe. Corp style stuff. Another popular Spanish tune was La Suerte which we played in HS. Valley and Provine played it too. I doubt those songs are good for 8 to 5 type drills.

Those songs were definitely common in MS when we were kids through high school. In my 10th grade year (Fall '81), my high school switched (straight politics) band directors from an Alcornite to a Southernite. Up until the switch, every show opened with either a Spanish fanfare or a drill to a Spanish song. If we did the drill to one, we would in up doing two drills with the second one being to a hot driving chart popper, like MJ's "Rock Me Tonight" or the Commodores "Lady".

So, there were some, if not all, that were could drill tones. I actually liked them, because the trumpet parts were really nice. Being a trumpet player, you know I was down with being the highlighted section.... :-)

Peace...

They did make for some good drilling. I remember 'El Tigre' and 'Conquistador' as two of the songs we played.
