Oh Well, Artest...

Let's Go Lions, GO!
Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

Looks like you can finish this CD, make two more, and come up with a "best of" collection before your ass gets back on the floor next season ...

I guess since Stephen Jackson is suspended for 30 games, and Jermaine O'Neal for 25, they can "guest" on your musical ventures. Hell, Ben might even be able to fit in a verse while he's out for his six games. May as well add Anthony Johnson, too. He won't have isht to do for five games. Perhaps Reggie Miller, Chauncey Billups, Elden Campbell, and Derrick Coleman can pose for the cover on their day off. What's that title again?

When Keeping it Real Costs Your Salary?

Idiot ... :shame:

Re: Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

Good!!!! ignant mofo!!!! they should've banned his azz for life!!

Re: Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

Artest should have kicked that fan's azz. I wish he could have thrown him threw a window like Barkley did that midget.

Re: Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

Well he will have plenty of time work on his album and time to spend with his kids. He has cost his team any chance at winning it all this season.

Re: Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

Well I'm sure the players' union will have plenty to say about these suspensions, I wouldn't be at all suprized if some or all are reduced. I bet the grievances have already been typed and are awaiting filing.

A big part of me feels the same way. I do not feel sorry for the fans getting punched, especially since the Pacer players were not doing anything to them. (Artest was laying on the scoreboard. Remember the brother punching Jones?) I wonder who threw the chair.

Yes, they needed to be heavy suspensions. But expect the players union to file a grievance. This is not over by a long shot.

Re: Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

Interesting!!

While I do not neccessarily disagree with the suspensions, after listening to the commissioner's media conference, it was intriguing how much of the ownest the commissioner placed on the players taking the responsibility of not only control themselves and their tempers, but also turning the other cheek even if they are wronged. Let others charged with the job of taking care of the athletes safety take care of it.

Furthermore, while I think this will inititially take care of the issue for a short time. I think this is a long road from being over. It is just now a societal issues that has become part of the norm.

Intriguing!!

Re: Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

I think that the suspension of Artest was mainly due to how he has acted for the season. I think it is too much for what had happen to him from Wallace's fault and the fans of Detroit. The Piston organization should be heavily fined for not being able to protect the players from this behavior. No where do you see any security getting in to protect the players or the fans from making this stop. Just look how fans was coming on the court after the players that had returned from the stands. THose 2 guys that came after Artest should not even been close to the court at that time.

There will be lawyers in court first thing in the morning to file injunctions to put these suspensions on hold. Stearn even said that he was the only one that made the decision on Artest and no one else, where could a appeal be sent because of this.

I'm not trying to take up for anyone that is involved in this but whats fair is fair. Wallace should have received more than 6 games for instigating this whole thing. If I was the Pacers, I would be packing it up right now to get in the lottery to get a good draft pick and come back with a vengence next season.

Re: Oh Well, Artest, you dumbAZZ ...

About three years ago, some Denver fans throw snowballs at Lincoln Kennedy and some of the Raider players. In 1994 some New York Giant fans threw snowballs, probably better yet "iceballs," on the field. A then near 70-year old trainer for San Diego got hit in the head and knocked-out. He was soon all right.

As for Lincoln Kennedy went after the fan. Mike Shanahan, who does not like Al Davis, did not blame Kennedy. Anyway, things went back to normal, and I have not heard about incidents between the Raiders and Broncos since then.

Now, I will not say that this was Artest's smartest's move. I certainly will not advocate athletes running into the stands. But consider how some athletes have been shot (Jaylon Rose, Gary Sheffield), robbed (Chris Childs), attacked on the field during a game (Randy Myers) and threatened (Michael Irvin). Remember that Rick Carlisle said that he was scared for his life. I am not surprised that some went over the edge.

What really needs to be done is that the prosecutors needs to not only jail the fans they catch (provided if they are convicted). But fine them heavily too. BTW I have seen fans throw ice on the field in person.

Again I will not say this was Artest's smartest's move. But fans should consider that these athletes are usually bigger and in better shape than the rest of us. I would not want to take a punch like that especially at my age. I will bet big money that the fat guy who ran onto the floor and got punched by a couple of Pacer players will think twice about runner onto any basketball floor.

......

I do not know how big Auburn Hills, MI is. But I sure did not see much security. BTW I watched part of the fight live.

50 years ago, you would have gotten lynched for striking Master Charlie. Today, you only get suspended for the rest of the season. See how much progress weeza made?

Stern buckled under to white pressure. He was facing an all-out boycott of whites to the NBA. I?m certain he got so many racially tinged phone calls over the last two days that he couldn?t keep track.

On ESPN, they showed a series of incidents whereby fans have thrown things at Artest. Did St. Stern do anything about any of those fans? I mean, this is AT LEAST the 3rd incident whereby a fan has taken an object and HIT HIM with it. And if they?ve done that kind of physical harm, I can only imagine how many times he?s heard the N-word, and comments like ?monkey? and ?animal? etc.

As part of a new social experiment, I?m going to attend basketball games this season and whichever player is 6 foot 6 and 225 pd I?m going to him with a beer. Does anyone want to take a guess what percentage are going to try to kick my *****?

This is RIDICULOUS and feared by racism. I hope Artest goes and plays in Europe.

We should start a ?Stern Must Go!? club.

BTW - Has ANYONE even asked St. Larry why he had his starters in the game with 45 seconds left and his team was down 15 points? Why was he violating NBA etiquette by keeping his ?BOYS? in the game.

I say good riddance to that PUNK!!!!! They should ban that punk and let him play over seas where he can rap, spend time with his family, fight fans, and play ball all at the same time.

Lamott, it is sad that you feel that a player running into the stands to fight a fan (the wrong one at that) is somehow racism.

I am black, and I agree wholeheartly with Artest's stupid acting arse being suspended for the rest of the season. Jackson's supension should have been longer also. It is sad that Reggie Miller got suspened, when he only went to pull Artest off the fan.

That ain't rasicm. It really sets us back when the minute anything happens some folks immediately cry rasicm. Those players are told in no uncertain terms that they should never go into the stands, period. THey didn't just tell the white players that.

Now with that said, Fiyah I disagree with your feeling on Wallace. To me, you MUST draw a line between the altercation between the players (which Wallace started) and the fight in the stands (Wallace did not make Artest go into the stands, Artest did that on his own) Wallace should be suspened for shoveing a player (He did not even punch artest) His supension should not be increased because of Artest ridiculous actions.

The players union will appeal, but in my opinion it will mostly be cosmetic. I really don't see the NBA backing down on the lenght of the supensions, particularly Artest and Jackson. THey punched the hell out of some fans.

One thing to realize, is Stern has to get this under control, and he really doesn't have any control over a fan, his control is over the players, so he has to make his statement there. (Sure, he can influence policies for areas for fans in the future, but he really can't personally do anything to the specific fans that started this. He has to depend on the local law enforcement for that)

I have no problem with the suspensions as long as action is taken against the fans who were involved in this too. Artest's (total) reaction was over the top (I'm including all of it: I can understand him going after the first fan who threw the beer to some degree, but maybe not as far as he went). But my problem with this whole thing is that Stern and others are all citing Artest's "reaction" to the fan(s) and not dealing publicly, (and, right now) nor forcefully, with the fan(s)' "Action" that caused the reaction.

Fans don't have the right to behave in a way that is essentially Assault. Those fans involved should be sued, prosecuted, and banned from attending games as well.

The players were wrong for acting the way they did. But the fans were just as wrong, and they should be made to bear consequences of their actions, too. I know Stern's product depends upon fan support, but he should stop the public posturing of citing only player behavior in this incident and come strong about fan behavior and their part in this mess as well.

Regards.

Too many fans at sporting events feel that they can say or do what they want because they paid to be there. They need to understand that they are spectators, not participants. Very few people if any came to watch them. Some of the fans actions can take the fun out of going to a game.

When I was watching a high school game in Monticello, GA around 1991, some equipment managers for the visiting were heckling the refs. The ref came over to threaten to throw them out of the gym. Around 1997 Terry Pendleton of the Braves was tossed out of a game in Atlanta against the Cubs. After that a fan near the Cubs' dugout was tossed out too.

Speaking of the NBA there is the Robin Ficker rule on excessive heckling. This is named after the attorney and known heckler. So as they are rules against throwing things on the floor, there are rules restricting heckling.

Folks, it is not just the high school dropout who act like this-if they can afford a ticket. There are a lot (maybe mostly) college grads acting like fools at these events.

This may have been the best post in this thread.

I totally concur...both parties should have been punished, fans and players.

I agree Artest is in need of anger-management counseling. Oddly enough, I started a thread about Artest last week. :(

But, I do agree that the fan that stepped out on the court needed his clock cleaned. He not only got hit once, he got decked a second time. :shame:

Lesson here.....keep your arse in your seat if it doesn't involved you. I thought he was a player at first with that jersey on. :swink:

Co-Sign what Lewis said.

Ron Artest is bordering on being a lunatic, and I said that Stephen Jackson was an escapee from the asylum when he was with San Antonio. Even as crazy as Artest is, and everything he's been doing as of late, he didn't deserve to have some equally as disturbed lunatic throw beer/soft drink/ice whatever on him. Now Jackson simply ran into the stands and started beating the hell out of whoever he got to first, so as I said, I thought he was a fool two years ago!! As far as I'm concerned, HE should be suspended for the rest of the season!

At that time of that incident, Artest was actually doing NOTHING!! As I just heard Tavis Smiley say, "as an athlete I don't have to take some crazy white boy throwing beer on me!" and d@mmit he's right!! While a player should NEVER go into the stands to confront a fan, let's be real...if not for the fool that threw the beer on Artest, that incident would have most likely never happened. The incident with Artest and Big Ben was basically squashed loooooong before any of that other foolishness started.

The punishment of the NBA players is done...it's not gonna change. I do however, wonder if they will do ANYTHING about having the fools in the stands prosecuted and arrested for their part in the melee.

I don't think any of the players should've been fined or suspended............

Until they bring charges against the FANS who 'provoked' the incident, why is there such a 'rush' ot punish the players...

Since it's been said that the tapes will be turned over to the local District Attorney's Office, the the players potentially face 'double jeopardy'; being suspended/fined by the League and then the possibility of criminal charges.... While the fans get away scott-free.....

:smh:
