My assignment was to write about the ongoing debate among Texas, California, Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and even Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia if you want to fill the pews, about which state has the best high school football.

I choose Texas.

You can argue in this state that the Hill Country doesn't have the world's most spectacular sunsets. You can argue that Kansas City and North Carolina have better barbecue. You can argue that Bob Wills is not still the king.

You can argue all of that, but you'd be wrong.

You cannot argue here that any other state has better high school football than Texas. That is not protected by the First Amendment, like yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre or "Obamacare" at a Tea Party meeting.

Don't mess with Texas high school football.

Besides, I have statistics.

That's a pretty middling performance for an economy once labelled the Texas Miracle because of how quickly it added jobs following the Great Recession of 2008. It turns out that all of that growth was tied to the oil and gas industry, which has taken a nosedive over the last two years.

But that's just it, this discussion isn't about individual talent. The topic is about high school football programs. We all agree Louisiana has talent. Nobody is disputing that. Some are simply saying that talent alone isn't enough to win championships.

A TEAM John Curtis won a National title in 2012 and National runner up in 2006on a subjective opinion. So much for your individual theory.

A TEAM, Southlake Carroll (out of Texas) won 3 national titles (2004, 2005 and 2006 toping John Curtis).
A TEAM, Allen High School (out of Texas) won a national title in 2014.
A TEAM, Katy High School (out of Texas) won a national title in 2015.

Believe me when I tell you, there wasn't any overwhelming talent on those SLC teams. But the system (program) worked.

AGAIN...I'm not saying talent doesn't matter. And if it makes you and others feel good to use the "per capita" argument, so be it. I'm not disputing that.

Seriously, SLC is nothing short of a national power. Year in and year out, they do what they do and have done what they have done @ ALL levels. From class "A" to class "AAAAA." Since 6A was created recently w/in the last what.... 3 years, they haven't gotten that steam yet but just wait. It's coming. I was there watching them practice 3 weeks ago and man oh man oh man.... *whistling*
 
In Texas, we have 12 state championship games:

Class 6A (Div. I & Div. II)
Class 5A (Div. I & Div. II)
Class 4A (Div. I & Div. II)
Class 3A (Div. I & Div. II)
Class 2A (Div. I & Div. II)
Class 1A (Div. I & Div. II)

Divisions depend on your school enrollment. This doesn't include the Private School championship games.
 
Why all the John Curtis stick-riding? Curtis and Evangel (before the Bootys broke away to start Calvary Baptist) are the reason Louisiana HS football is in the state its in to begin with.

SLC didn't beat Curtis in 2006 they went 14-0. SLC beat a team full of Sophom

JC went 14-0 in 2006 so that's a tall tale. SLC beat JC a year when they played a team full of Sophomores. I will have to fact check you now because you're giving Trump data... lol

I don't think this has anything to do with the topic at hand, but since you brought it up Texas has the 4th largest economy in the World, behind only Tokyo, UK, and California. We also have a GSP of 1.6 trillion which would be 11th in the world and 2nd in the U.S behind Cali. With 2 of the 3 fastest growing cities in the country (Austin and Dallas) So the Oil business isn't that bad

When I said SLC "topped" John Curtis, I wasn't referring to a head-to-head match. I was referring to the national ranking. You said JC was the national runner-up in 2006. I'm telling you that SLC was the national champion in 2006. No need to fact check me. My 2006 fact, literally "Trumped" your 2006 fact. ROTF!!!!

Ok that was the welfare title in 2006 after JC took out then #1 Hoover and they proceeded to steal that one from JC and give it to SLC.

The article says Texas economy is 21st in the nation but you're saying it's fourth in the world?

How does that work?

This isn't really hard to answer..Texas is one of the richest states in the country..I don't know where you got your numbers but it's not right

That's a serious reach. That's like saying that schools who invest in athletics facilities upgrades while having dilapidated academic buildings value athletics more than academics. You have to look at how these things are financed.

I guarantee you that the school districts involved in this "arms race" are having no trouble educating its students.
If you put Allen, Katy, SLC etc in Louisiana they would easily be the top schools academically in Louisiana.

Drop some of those schools in Louisiana and they'd rename them Harvard High, Yale High and Columbia High.

Obviously that's what they are in Texas also as far as what the public knows. But I don't think the writer is limiting their assessment on a couple of district, which is probably why they are talking the states economy and the effects the arm race has.
