Organizers say they could move the game out of Mobile this year.
MOBILE, Ala. -- Kickoff for the Gulf Coast Classic is less than two months away, but the game has no contract with Ladd-Peebles Stadium and an official from one of the schools said he is considering options other than playing in Mobile.

Since 1974, the Classic had been an Alabama State home game in Mobile, as the Hornets left the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery once a year for the larger Ladd-Peebles and a devoted alumni base.

Last year, organizers tried to convert the game into a true classic, featuring the same two teams every year.

To do so, they promised Southern $250,000 and Alabama State $225,000. Both schools are historically black colleges that play in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Organizers asked the city of Mobile to increase its contribution to the game from $40,000 to $450,000.

The Mobile City Council gave the game $275,000.

Classic organizers were unable to meet the financial obligations they made to the schools, and city officials were disappointed in the low turnout for the game. On Tuesday, the City Council cut the game’s funding to $47,500 for this year.

Organizers were working on a plan to pay the schools the money they’re owed for last year’s game — $103,900 for Southern and $88,319 for Alabama State — before this year’s contest, she said..............
........This year, Jones proposed giving $47,500 to the Gulf Coast Classic and reserving another $200,000 for the council to give either to the Classic or another sporting event.

Council members voted 4-3 to divvy up that $200,000 between the Senior Bowl and the Saenger Theatre.

So they still owe both school's those sum's from last years game?:(

Then the city council voted to give just $47,000 to this years game and divided the other $200,000 up and gave it to the Senior Bowl and some theatre group in Mobile.
This game is DBA............DEAD BEFORE ARRIVAL.

Where is this game going to move to this year cause it sure is not gonna be played in Mobile with a $47,000 budget.

Nope.
The closest college stadium in Mississippi to the Gulf Coast is USM in Hattiesburg.

Best bet is to take it back to the Crampton Bowl and fill that up right down from your campus.
The attendance may actually tripple cause if ya'll fans are like ours concerning Mobile, I didn't know anyone from JSU that liked going to Mobile.
Glad we stopped going down there.

honestly i think the only way Crampton Bowl would get filled up is if they had the Iron Bowl in it

There are numerous valid messages in this post ^^^^^^^^^^^.

Speak it TBJ.

Been asking this question ever since this year's schedule came out .... if the promoters broke their contract by not paying us, why the hell are we honoring ours by playing in that piece of sh!t classic?

You know who needs to find a way to get that game in Baton Rouge this year ... even if they have to pay Bama State. After the bullsh!t that is this weekend coming, them dumbazzes owe the SU fans, point blank.

They say they going to pay us our money in a few weeks..
I say take our money and work something out with ASU to move the game back to MUMFORD!! Them paying us this late still breaches the contract, so we shouldn't have to honor it in my opinion..

:lecture:
How do you know that for sure. You never know what they signed.
