4 years good...Gives him a full cycle to develop his class, Those who come in as FR will be SR and we can see and evaluate "HIS" players in that cycle...

That should give him enough time to prove what he can do. I'm glad Broussard is the AD, because Odums job will not be that difficult since Broussard has a keen sense of knowledge of knowing how to develop a program with bringing in the right people. I can't wait to see what recent improvements Broussard has on the table for SU athletic facilities.

Id put him on a year to year. In fact, I'd dig up the old reserve clause they used in baseball back in the day. Every year I'd have the option of keeping him or letting him go. Gotta keep guys like Odoms on a short leash. Those big boys have a tendency to get lazy.

LOL.. not year to year.

I would have added one year to his contract. That is what JSU did to Comegy when he won in 2007. ..and some of ya'll didn't even like that. 3 years with a $35K raise is a bit much.

IMO, three years is a bit much too, but I don't think any school will get a halfway decent coach to sign a contract with a buyout clause in favor of the school for only $50k. I'm sure that clause would be taken out or the coach will ask for his upfront with an extremely high base salary at $300k to $350k per year.

I don't think ANY coach would sign a $50K buyout. That is why Comegy kept applying for jobs. He knew we could get rid of him at any point. BUT he had to sign that contract. That was when we were in APR trouble. It was either take that contract or hit the road.

I hope jSU is ready to shell out at least $200k to $250k per year for a minimum of 3 years for their next coach.

Southern football coach Dawson Odums’ agent said Thursday morning that his client has agreed to a new contract with the university.

The agreement was hammered out with Jaguars athletic director William Broussard in less than 48 hours after an original offer was made. Odums, who led Southern to its first Southwestern Athletic Conference championship in 10 years this past season, had one year left on his contract.

Terms of the agreement were not immediately known and the contract is subject to approval by the SU System Board of Supervisors, which next meets in January.

THIS WEEK JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER

I think money for assistants is more important. We shall see. I am sure we have that all figured. That is why the director of finance is on the search committee.

He or she might know financing, but does he or she knows how to evaluate a person for the HC coaching position.

This is a VERY unsmart move. SU is bidding against itself for an ungood coach that no one else wants and even if they do, let him go. Say thanks for the championship and show him the door. This was STUPID with a capital STUPID

I don't think their role will be to evaluate. It will be to make sure we have a financial person there during negotiations. I am sure that every person on the committee will have a specific role to play.

I hope they don't cut themselves too short on a good candidate and pay too much for a bad candidate.

That's fair GR. I would have stopped at 160. But when the rest of yall are out these spending over 200K for base salary or close to it. It is also not a big number to off his third year if it got bad. Not bad and not great. But you have to give any coach at least 3-4 years to build. Otherwise you will just go through revolving doors as soon as folks get pissed.

You don't do business like. The perception would keep people from even coming to SU if you off a cat after winning a title. Sheesh. Good thing some of yall ain't making major decisions at your companies.

Ain't no agent going to allow his coach to sign an agreement like that. Even James Bell agent ain't that stupid. What do some of you people do at your JOBS?

Right now, jSU is clueless on how their program will turn out in the future. At least with Comegy, they got 7 to 8 wins per season with a trip to the SCG. They just might end up with something a lot worse at $200k plus per year on a 3 year contract.

I know companies who stayed stagnant with the same profits year after year scared to make changes, look into new channels, or emerging markets and such... Out of business I tell you out of business. You can't be scared to change or of change....

It is a difference to make a change after you given the person time to screw up. Nobody is debating what yall are doing with Comegy. This was about giving any coach a year to year deal after he just won a title no matter how he did it. You make yourself look crazy in the coaching circles. You can't do that. Agents would steer their candidates away from foolishness like that. That would be as bad as Ricky Williams letting No Limit lawyers negotiate his rookie deal. LOL.

Worm may not be the best coach out there, but those other coaches look at how you treat folks. You best believe that.

That's the contract Ricky Williams asked for lol. He said it would keep him motivated

JR sign him that's fine with all of us but even you said after Joseph leaves he will have to really show he can recruit and bring in talent. JSU is going down uncharted waters but so is SU. He won this year but next year is a rebuild year and potentially the next. So to say all is rosey and this is a good deal is a stretch. a 2 year extention would secure him for 3 years for a total commitment of 4.... His seniors will be on deck in year 4. He's your for at least 3 of the four now with a 175k buy out in year 4...

Folk, this may have been the worst thing to happen for the SWAC to be real truth about things...

The lead recruiter at SU recruited the guy who scored twice on JSU in the SCG, and the freshman RBs.

Folk, you may not want to hear this..but SU is loaded with good underclassmen, Odums did right by letting the SRs finish out, but Ray Charles could see that the talent from the underclassmen...and they are hungry too..

He Had #87 Lenard on special teams a FR...just to save face, but what happened in that situation...How ugly that dude will be come next year if he puts in the work...
Dude was a FR and could have started...it was WR that couldn't sniff the field becuz of the talent..#9 Morgan...dude really haven't even gotten really into the offense yet..had to wait this year.....RBs too...The best RB we have IMO aint even play enough...The recruits are coming...it just that they will have to work for time...
Mike Jones...I hadn't even heard of dude until DOSS GOT ZIPPED for a game and ask Bama St bout him.. lol...dude just need to work on 'hands' but no DB in the SWAC can cover this dude...he toasted GSU DBs..and you see what he did to Cox
