Miss Valley vs. Paul Quinn - MVSU finally gets into the win column.

Alabama State at Prairie View A&M - Nothing pretty about this one.

Alcorn vs. Texas Southern- Alcorn may make this a close one for a qtr. or two, but pull away in the 2nd half.

The Jaguars have re-established themselves as a top team in the SWAC the past two weeks. Southern struggled out of the blocks with a loss to McNeese State and close win against Mississippi Valley State, and also fell at home to South Dakota State. The last two weeks, the Jaguars have rebounded with high-scoring and competitive wins against Alabama State and Alabama A & M. The Jaguars need to guard against a letdown, especially against a Jackson State team that is second in the SWAC in passing defense. Of course, the last two defenses were also highly ranked before Southern and quarterback Thomas Ricks got a hold of them. Southern?s offense continues to flourish in a victory. Prediction: Southern 38, Jackson State 14

Arkansas Pine-Bluff (4-1) at Grambling State (3-2), 2:30

Grambling State still misses the presence of Bruce Eugene, but the Tigers offense is improving every week behind freshman Brandon Landers. Landers ranks third in the SWAC in total offense and has led the Tigers to three straight wins after an 0-2 start. Grambling State remains two games behind Arkansas Pine-Bluff in the SWAC West standing, so the Tigers face a must win situation if they have any hopes of reaching the SWAC title game. The Grambling State offense is improving, but the Lions defense is the toughest the Tigers have faced all season. Arkansas Pine-Bluff also ranks first in the conference in scoring and rushing offense. The more balanced Lions will win and make Grambling?s hopes at a SWAC West title all but disappear. Prediction: Arkansas Pine-Bluff 31, Grambling State 20

Grambling State vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff

In every man?s life, he must face a test that will determine the path in which he will travel. Some pass this test and are able to choose their own path, some do not pass and someone else chooses the path for them. This is what The Bluff is facing this week. After years of being one of the mediocre teams in the conference, The Bluff has positioned themselves as current king of the SWAC west, but an old Tiger lurks and would like nothing better than to have its crown back. A win this weekend and The Bluff can choose their own path with Southern remaining as their only road block. The Bluff is a solid team and has been winning by running the football effectively, playing good defense and most importantly, not turning over the ball. Grambling has been playing better football now that freshman QB Bandon Landers has gotten a better grasp of the offense. The stats point to The Bluff but there?s nothing like playing at home and Grambling will need that extra confidence in this one. Expect a nail-bitter, but The Bluff will find themselves in a familiar spot when they visit Grambling?on the losing team. Grambling 40, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 38.
