I agree with this...many of my colleagues have NEVER worked outside of academia and thus, don't get it. I find it very frustrating at their Monopoly money attitudes...but this still doesn't change...folks have CHOICES in their educations--online versus oncampus. Old dorms versus brand new add $4000 to my housing dorms. No meal plan and cook for myself versus the 3 meals a day/7 days a week plan...but many want it ALL and don't count the cost until its time to pay it back.

It amazes me how this generation complains about every thing and wants everything given to them, yet they don't complain about buying expensive clothes, big rims, loud stereo systems and running up credit card debt to live like TV stars.

I just want Colleges to have to compete in a real market place. In true markets, competition drives prices down. However, Higher ED competes in a Government subsidized market place with an inelastic demand and customers who can artificially inflate their incomes through student loans. What ends up happening is that the price of degrees steadily increase even as their value decreases. In a free market country, this simply does not make sense. The only other institution that functions this way is OPEC. At some point, the feds are going to have to take a tough line stance and I welcome it because we are simply propping up a bunch of welfare institutions.

I never took out a student loan. Don't even know what the paper work looks like. :lol: Yes it took me longer, but I knew I wanted to an egineer, so I got a job at a plant and worked as technician. Therefore I gained real world experience and got paid.

Just because you didn't have to do it means that others should be able to take the same route as you. Right?

It's obvious you haven't seen today's tuition & fee sheets either :lol:

Everybody doesn't have the same situation. And don't even get me started on the scholarship racket. Many of them are loaded with asinine restrictions and stipulations.

Cee, what do you think the cost of college was when you were in school compared to 2011-2012 tuition numbers? Also, I dare you to compare the amount wages have risen over the same time period.

Nope did not say that. That is your conscious bothering you. I don't give folks advice, nor do I accept excuses from folks in life. I learned from birth that no one loved or cared about me more than I did about myself. Therefore I don't ask folks for help nor do I expect folks to help me. I make my own way. I don't makes excuses for what life hands me. My best friends in life are me, myself and I.

Pops, minimum wage was 3.85. Get that excuse out of here. Regan killed every program in the world to help folks. Huntsville had no bus system. I walked to work and walked to school everyday. In the rain and cold I walked.

I think every student should be allowed to attend college for the free regardless of race.

However, if you drop out, flunk out or kids are forced out due to criminal activity, then those students have to make up the difference of what a four-year education would cost.

Why are Black people against getting their just-due?

Why are we our own worse enemies?

Do we even realize how much better off this whole country would be (not just us Blacks) if none of us had to pile on 10's of thousands of debt just to get a college degree?

Once again, I'm talking about Black people as a whole. Not just you or me.

Because honestly, you never know someone else's situation.

I know people who did some illegal and immoral things to pay parts of their way through college.

Think beyond yourself for a second and ask yourself this: Did it have to come down to that?
