O’Neill Sanford becomes JSU’s new Director of Bands!





After looking at the classic , if Sanford stays in his lane. The boom will be fine. But I need that Honda energy all season man. That performance showed how much capability they have in numbers, sound, and drilling when used right. If Sanford hangs back and let hollinger and little do the ground work... This could work... We boom fans just have to stay optimistic and keep our eyes on this program going forward.

Hire already set in stone, nothing you/we can do about it, sometimes venting is good though!
 
One thing JSU folks can hang their hat on is that Myers is not afraid to get rid of you if you're not getting the job done, so this new director will be on everybody's radar, including Meyers.
 
Meyers management style would not be tolerated if she were a Federal government employee, she would have an excessive number of Congressionals and EEO complaints and probably would be removed. Just because she has the authority to terminate someone doesn't mean she should abuse that authority.

Nah. Haven't followed him like that. He wasn't considered a SU legend like Paul Adams, Roy Johnson, Carnell Knighten etc... All we knew he got gigs at big PWCs. I think Minnesota and Pittsburgh. Never heard Doc brag about him. As a matter of fact, we never saw him during my time in the Jukebox. Most of the old cats who became directors came through to visit. Especially during them 80s. We saw Paul all the time before he ended up at JSU. Even Pop would stop in when visiting LA from Ms.

All we knew is he was well thought of by the big schools.

And she actually was talkn to dowell about them in 2012. Dowell wasn't on board with that. But SANDFORD WAS. Smh

Great hire jSU! Great Hire!!!!! I applaud Meyers for going "going against the grain" and hiring a GREAT Director of bands. Looking forward to hearing how close to S...I mean how good you guys will sound(Save Oct 15).

Su...already talking shat i see...lol. But the Boom still gone be the Boom. That's why I hate JSU alum & Board seem sooo weak , but i beleive its just all politics at JSU. I think Dr.Myers is great, but I dont agree with everything she does..I actually think the Boom alumni is strong but ignored, but its gone be alright! This would NEVER happen to SU band program, I don't care who the president is!!! No one from another school would ever be over that SU band!!!! JSU is letting too much outside influences in they school with power, some influnce is good , but not all. They gone loose they whole music department ..to Non..alumni,.lol. But ....I don't know shat...lol. Im Just kidding mostly though. I don't know shat...lol.

Sanford isn't the first non-alumnus to lead the Boom, remember Edward Duplessis and Renaldo Murray?

You are right.

Murray was Alcorn grad. My fellow Callaway grad and KKPSI Frat bruh.

Pops truly became a Boom man though. Even though he maintained his love for SU. But he and Doc Greggs marched in the "S" way before the Jukebox came about. LOL. You could tell Pop had the same lessons as Doc on Drills. Other than that. Pop was a Boom all the way. Still laugh about how he would rile up the bruhs the week of SU by saying his school was coming to Jackson. Great man he was.
