Those poor enfants. :smh: Lord bless them.
The crimes that warrant death row are very heinous to say the least while coupled w/ the fact that rehabilitation of the purported offender is nil.
<b>One</b> common theme that I found is that if one committed a murder against a white female, you're assuredly placed on death row during sentencing (quite a few cases from what I sampled).
I won't lie. I've been a proponent of the death penalty since it was reinstated in '82 (I think that was the year). I was a vey STAUNCH supporter of it. Now it's come full circle for me and others in my family and community.
I started to post about my involvement w/ this situation yesterday but I thought it wasn't necessary until now. I grew up w/ one of the offenders on death row. He's 37 - I've known him for all of his 37 years. His mom (RIP) and my mom were life-long friends/classmates/like sisters. He had an elder brother (classmate/best friend) who I had the misfortune of being w/ at the time of his death our 8th grade year (drowned in Huntsville state pk). Being a pall bearer the first time in my whole life @ the age of 13 was one of the hardest things I'd ever done. Especially when you're carrying your best friend to his resting place.
Summarizing, I was called a few years ago to be a character witness for the defendant. I was nervous. I couldn't lie and I didn't. He <b>was</b> a very good person until "life" w/out a stolid foundation got a hold on him. The only thing that I found funny about my testimony vs others (who were primarily caucasian) was that they only told the court about his "athletic" prowess and him being billed as the next "Baby Earl" (he earned that nickname because he had the size and speed of Earl Campbell) but <b>we</b> called him "Two Man" because he had the strength of two men (literally). Both he and <b>Harvey Williams</b> (starred @ LSU) were the two top RBs leaving Tx in that era of the mid-to-early-late 80s. NFL pro career literally in his hands but drugs, being used, unable to cope w/ family/friend losses, banished from several univs, ... pushed him overboard I'm sure.
Deep down in my heart and soul, I know that he killed that 12 year old white girl (his neighbor) and that's why I know that he must pay the ultimate price (unfortunately).
There was soooooooooo much irony during the buildup when they finally found the recently dug-up body <b>inside his home</b>.
No one should ever die at the hands of another like that.
I also feel in my hear that <b>others</b> had something to do w/ the case and he's protecting them (he's that type of individual).
Do a lookup on that site for "Green" from Montgomery Co. The world is truly small. And yes, I do have a distant cousin who may be placed on death row shortly (from all indications). He and his "posse" gang of hoodlum buddies (3) drove 72 miles north of Houston and robbed a bank w/ a bunch of shoot-em-up stuff. They <b>boldly</b> stayed in the town and went to a graveyard to split the $$ there. There they (he) killed an elderly woman who was visiting her former husband's fresh grave. The arrogance coupled w/ the heinous murder of a VERY elderly <b>white woman</b> will earn him his place on death row shortly (I'm sure).
