Now that Albany State has become one of the largest HBCUs in the country overnight...


Albany is home for me and there's been talk of this merger for years, but it took a lot of folks by surprise that the Regents actually voted to do this. I'm not sure its gonna fly when fully implemented. The campuses are on different sides of town. One thing I will say is I don't expect Albany State (I NEVER,EVER,EVER refer to that school as ASU lmao) to maintain those enrollment numbers. A large number of the students going to Darton probably wouldn't go to an Albany State. And none of us have to wonder why. As far as this thread and Albany moving up, I wouldn't think there would be all that much interest, at least initially. They don't have to look all that far to see a school dumping traditional D2 rivals to end up flopping in the wind by moving up (Savannah State). But since we love to play the HBCU conference realignment game here, an FCS conference with ASU (the real one), A&M, Albany, Tuskegee, FAMU, Bethune, SCSU, Savannah, and an Atl school sure would save a lot of schools some $$
 



So much false information in here about Ga State lol. First of all, the Olympics only benefitted GSU because that housing was given to GEORGIA TECH, who let GSU use it until the commons was built. GSU didn't merge with anyone until this past year, taking over Georgia Perimeter and already had over 30,000 students. They were already the second largest school in the state even then so the logic doesn't make sense. On top of that the Olympics built Morris Brown a brand new stadium... that now sits condemned. Who actually benefitted more??? It also had nothing to do with the football move as the commons was done before the program even started. The ONLY possible benefit the Olympics had to GSU was building Turner Field...which was then Olympic Stadium since that property is probably 90% about to be GSU's after the Braves leave.

I read where Albany State's current campus would be the home campus. Not sure if other buildings at Darton would be used as well. But many universities have buildings spread across town in their cities, especially in major cities.

You have to understand the growth of Atlanta. The Cobb county which Kennesaw is part of is one the fastest growing areas in Metro Atlanta. Kennesaw also merged with Southern Polytechnic school that was a division of GA Tech at one time. It was another school whites in North GA attended to stop from coming into Atlanta. I can go all day of y'all wanna. I was born and raised in Atlanta when MLK was Hunter St. Lol when SW DeKalb was all white. When the KKK would ralley in Cobb and Stone mountain at night. Maynard Jackson, Andrew Young, John Lewis, Marvington Arrington are my pops boys. I learned a lot from holding conversations with these guys about the structure of Atlanta and the whites who still control from behind the scenes. The last white mayor of Atlanta family and my family are good friends.

Kennesaw's enrollment was already over 20K before taking over Southern Poly....
 
I wouldn't be against Albany, must MH alluded, we need to see how this goes and how stable that foundation is. 20 years ago, Morris Brown looked like the perfect fit for the SWAC and now they almost don't exist.

Right.. during the Olympic process, Georgia State was left out... That housing complex was NEVER supposed to be theirs but they had to get something. Tech had another set of dorms built on the back of campus also for the Olympics as well as the Aquatic Center. Morehouse got their gym from the Olympics I believe and sadly, MoBrown's stadium is trash now.

But you gotta remember, GaState really didn't have much of an athletic "presence" then. Plus, with it being smack in the middle of town, not much to do on their "campus"

but flash forward from 96 til today, GA State has become a HUGE presence downtown.

Notice the two folks who don't know anything about the Political side of Atlanta from Mayberry small town America came in here and proved my point. Prior to Atlanta winning the Oylimpic bid in 1988 Georgia St was nothing. In fact GT was not what it is today. Let's be honest. Students from the Atlanta area did not attend GASt. Is was a commuter school down town where if you sat out a semester from your main school or needed to take classes to pass in the AUC or other schools you went to GA St to take those classes. There is nothing TP or Unknown can tell me about Atlanta GA. Nothing. You are second citizens therefore what you say is mute. Ask anyone born and raised in the 404 and they will tell you exactly what I state. In fact we still are amazed at how GA St took off.

Yup. Before there were a zillion online schools where working adults could "attend" to go back and complete their degree, that was basically what Ga State was. An evening/night commuter school. It has changed a helluva lot since those days- students and campus.
 
I just think its crazy how folks honestly think those students are just going to go to Albany State it's not happening, hell if u don't believe me call Albany and ask them how many blacks were transferring to albany.. very few, now people on here acting like that is going to changed, and u really think those white folks are going to find themselves on albany state campus o_O:rolleyes:

What is a second citizen? Is that some new constitutional declaration? LOL Whatever it is. It's not me. I am NOT a citizen/resident of GA at all. In fact, I have never been.
