Now lets see how great Kobe Bryant really is

man I was in L.A. during a lot of the 3-peat. Heck I was at my boy's house (SU Grad) in Compton watching game 7 against the Kings, and at ESPNZone in Anaheim watching game 4 when Horry hit the game winner. I was in the building when they beat Portland in game 1 of one of their series during that time. I think I've been around a few more Laker fans than you.

My point is... you can say AI was a better 2 guard than Kobe back then, but you can't say Miller, Allen or Vince Carter were better overall. Ray Ray didn't play defense until he got with KG and Doc Rivers. lol

Again, that Lakers team back them had multiple folks who could pull off the win. Fisher hit winning shots, Horry was Big Shot Bob. They had a great supporting cast. I am also talking the Finals. Not the road to get there. When they got to the Finals. Shaq carried them in each of those series. We all know there matchups that get exploited in the playoffs and some teams play others harder than others. But it was no doubt in most folks minds back then that the Lakers could have lined up another all-star 2 guard with the rest of that talent and won. Whether Ray Ray played defense or not, that Lakers team had other dirty work role players to do that. Phil would have also made Ray Ray play defense in that system. Ray didn't play any because he had no coaching in Seattle. I also doubt you have been around more Lakers fans than me. LOL. Too much family(not even counting the in laws) out in LA and even my Northern Cal relatives are Lakers fans, not to mention folks like JState83 and my other homeboys from the crib who are diehard old school Lakers fans. Between the Lakers and Cowboys, I know know more folks who have been fans of those teams than any other sports teams. Our smack talk go back to the late 70s and 80s. So these are very knowledgable fans of the Lakers. They are not just Kobe fans like some new school Laker fans are now. They actually could care less about him since Magic and that crew will always be their favorites. Just as long as they win. So they don't discount Shaq and talk up Kobe like he was the only 2 guard in the NBA that could have been Shaq's Robin and won those first 3 titles. I only hear that on this board. LOL.

JR,
And please kill that mess about Reggie Miller being a better player than Kobe during that time.

Who were the best Shooting guards in the league at that time in your opinion?

Actually RM was a better player than Kobe at that time. Out of those two, who I wanted to have the ball with 3 secs left on the clock...RM.

Just as a host of teams, including the Knicks.

Exactly the most telling thing is Finals MVPs: Jordan has 6, Shaq has 3 and Kobe has 2. Kobe has LED his team to only 2 championships, the other 3 he was best supporting actor.

Also remember Jordan was 6 for 6... he never let his team lose in the finals... as a matter of fact, a Jordan-led team has never been upset in the playoffs. When the Bulls had the target on their back, MJ delivered. His teams always overachieved. They never underachieved.

Some of these Kobe lovers can't seem to fathom that FACT! :lecture:

I think ya'll need to take heed to what Bynum said because they are reporting on Media Takeout that Pau Gasol has been in a funk every since his fiance' dumped him 2 weeks ago, and he blames a teammates' wife for being behind their break up. They won't identify who the teammate is, but you guys can look on the roster and see who all are married.

Wow.......I wonder who's wife it would be. LOL. Would it be a Kardashian?

What about the other 47:57 of the game? Heck I would take RM or Horry over everyone in the last 3 secs.

So Gasol's letting down the WHOLE team and thousands of Laker fans because he broke up? Gasol was playing like this before two weeks ago.

Jordan never won a ring without Pippen. Kobe has won multiple titles without Shaq, so what's your point?

Jordan also had Scottie Pippen who saved Jordan multiple times when Jordan had 6 for 23 type games. It always amazes me how folks just ignore how much Scottie Pippen added to Jordan's legacy.

Right now, Kobe's doing more with less than what Jordan had. Kobe doesn't have a top 50 hall of famer player on that team, yet they've been to the NBA Finals for three straight years and going for a fourth straight appearance.

Dude Scottie Pippen is a really good player, HOF even, but the only reason he's a top 50 player is he was playin with MJ. The best attesting to Pippen's legacy is that he led the team to the brink of the Finals in 94 after Jordan left. I'm not saying Pippen wasn't the Bulls' best supporting actor, but he like Kobe 2000-2003 was replacable. Jordan could won 6 rings with Gerald Wilkins, Anthony Mason, Sean Elliot or Chuck Persons as his side kick.

Kobe's current team is comparable to MJs. Jordan never played with a center as talented as Bynum. Artest is just as good a lock down defender as Pippen. Gasol is an upgrade for Toni Kukoc. However I'd take Grant/Rodman over odum any day of the week.

Overall MJs cast was a little better than Kobe's but that's because MJ's NBA was better than Kobe's NBA. Until this year, you had one or two teams with legitamate championship hopes. The 90s Knicks, Jazz and Suns could all probably beat Kobe's current Lakers, the Celtics Big 3 and maybe the Heat Big three.

Yeah...........Dewight Howard that play for the Orlando Magic. The same Dwight Howard that has grown and got more aggressive than he was 2 years ago.

The same Dwight Howard that play for ORLANDO Magic that got "Mr. I quitting the Heat to spend more time with my family" coaching them. Put Dwight Howard on the Lakers team for a year and he will be a beast down low. Bynam ain't done crap since he got there except stay injured. Odem disappears if you look at him hard. Artest ain't never been the best player in the world and Gasol is up and down.

The same Dwight Howard who couldn't destroy Atlanta for single-covering him with the immortal Jason Collins and Zaza Pachulia?

So you would rather have Bynum?
OK.............

Fairly certain I never said that. Still, Dwight isn't wired to be dominant, which was my point. Besides, Bynum isn't the issue right now, he is what he is. The Lakers' real issues are that Gasol is in the tank and they have no bench, not to mention Kobe can't impose his will on teams for extended stretches anymore.

I agree.

Kobe believes in historic comeback - Do you?

I am not a big fan of the NBA, but I will watch game 4.

This would be a great comeback and might end any hopes that the mavericks could ever win the championship.

Do you think they will comeback?

DALLAS – Kobe Bryant(notes) is giving you permission to call him crazy.

He says his Los Angeles Lakers will rally from a 3-0 deficit against the Dallas Mavericks. It’s a rare comeback in North American sports, most notably accomplished by the 2004 Boston Red Sox against their rival New York Yankees and last season in the NHL, when the Philadelphia Flyers rallied to stun the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference semifinals. As for the NBA, it’s never been done in 65 years of the league’s existence.

Kobe Bryant thinks the Lakers will be the first team to win a best-of-seven series after trailing 3-0.

That’s not stopping Bryant from being optimistic after the Lakers suffered a 98-92 defeat to the Mavericks on Friday night at American Airlines Arena in Game 3 of this Western Conference semifinals.

“I might be sick in the head or crazy or thrown off or something like that, but I still think we are going to win this series,” Bryant said. “I might be nuts. Win on Sunday. Go back home and see if they can win in L.A.”

When asked where that confidence comes from, the five-time NBA champion said: “I don’t know. I’m just nuts.”

Heyal to the no! Kobe was the third leading scorer on his own team and Gasol is heartbroken. It's over.

Re: Kobe believes in historic comeback - Do you?

Hell no!!!! Phil not trying to get on his soft azz Center about being a lil baby. The Lakers need a Dwight Howard. No bench players and Fisher is declining.
