I represent the generation that brought in hip hop. Therefore, I have a much better historical perspective on this issue. I actually lived it.

Not trying to take anything away from the two as I have bobbed my head to a number of their cuts. But to say them MOFOs just flat out changed the course of hip hop as we know is a bunch of bullshit.

It's funny that you say that because even the folks that helped usher in Hip Hop have Bigge and Pac in at least their top 5. :lol: :lol:

To have a historical perspective on anything it doesn't mean squat if you lived during that period. All you have to do is listen to it, study it, and have an appreciation for it.

Not trying to debate you, but BIG brought attention back to the east coast and basically dictated the way Hip Hop would go for the next 10 year. Jay-Z basically used BIg as a springboard for his career. And Pac brought so much art to the artform, using a lot of consonace, alliteration and assonance and other poetry techniques. With just high school English classes under your belt, you should have still been able to tell that he was classically trained and many of his 'songs' were actually poems that were set to music

Evidently you weren't paying attention while they were alive. Where were you in the 90's? To say that those two MC's changed the course of Hip Hop is very accurate. If you don't think they were great that's cool but please don't act like Biggie and Pac wasn't on the cover of every magazine, the talk of the music industry, and putting out CLASSICS when they were alive. :lol: :lol:

Rakim, KRS-1, Biggie, Pac, Nas, Jay-Z, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane are respectable Top 5 MC's IMHO. There are plenty of others, too. Pac and Big would rank right up there with anybody. IF you don't like them, that's your opinion, but not the concensus.

I lived that era also and I can honestly say there are not two better rappers that ever came out that had the swagger and appeal of Biggie and Pac. Sorry. I still have my Sugar Hill Album. I remember the house parties and the rap songs that hit the streets. I had the big boom boxes and everything else to go along with it. I remember the MC battles on the microphone and I still say none could compare to Biggie and Pac. It had nothing to with the death of these guys. Pac was on his way to making movies anyway. Pac changed the game on that account. Everyone else followed.

I can name many others from the early days of hip hop that have said the same while Biggie and Pac were alive. I guess what they say don't count huh? :lol:

Bruh you speak the truth. I remember the house parties that we had. I don't about know yall but in the projects during that time, that's how we got our spending money. :emlaugh: Don't get me wrong, when hip hop first hit the seen it was off the chain, because it was new and exciting, but Biggie and Pac had that "Hollywood style" that no other rappers had. Biggie made being ugly, fat and black popular. All the dudes who fell in that category came out of their shell. Pac had street brothers wanting to learn Shake sphere. All those other cats kicked black power knowledge, but it never appealed to the masses like Pac and Biggie.

I was a big Pac fan because I thought he was multi-talented............not just rapping but across the board. Really thought he was a better actor than rapper and I thought he could rap. Plus he penned his isht and had a lot of material Just was a troubled dude which is sad he didn't get to do more.

Biggie.......I always thought he was cottonmouthed with his flow. Diddy did a good job marketing him and the music was the bomb. Lyrics were good......just didn't think his style warranted him being considered one of the top 5. Maybe top 10 but that's as far I would go with it. Both Pac and Big have been immortalized because they got killed. At least Pac had a lot material he had written and recorded..........Biggie died and that was it. They put some rinky dink tribute to him together for an album........but Diddy and nem screwed it up. LOL. I definitely see where SOG is coming from being a product of the era that ushered in Hip Hop.......or as they said in the movie Brown Sugar............real Hip Hop.

I have no beef with Big Daddy Kane saying that. Of course he has his own opinions like all of us. I am sure a lot of those old cats say that. Personally I was more of Pac fan than Biggie. I thought the music they used on Biggie cuts were great.......just never thought of him being in the top 5 of all time. Same goes for Big Daddy Kane. LOL. Hell I like Heavy D's flow better than Big Daddy's.

That's who tops my list. Rakim. Second would be either LL or KRS, then Kane, Guru, and Chuck D.

:lol: He only wanted 3 JR. LL is most consistent with some shining moments. Jay-Z Just as consistent with better subject matter, has the ability to get individual to relate from ALL different backgrounds(dude reaches the largest audience). Eminem just puts his words and rhymes together better than anyone else. My next three would have been Rakim, Face, cool G Rap.
