No NBA tonight due to protests

I applaud them for DOING SOMETHING. I'm just tired of symbolic action. We need real change.

Jacob Blake's sister said it today. She's angry and tired. Numb. Wants real change.

I understand, sister. I understand.

I just read an article TODAY about how some said that the NBA painting BLM on the court was nothing more than symbolism and now we are here

Now that more and more people are starting to realize that people like Lebron are no more than actorvists, it's time for those with REAL courage like Kyrie to assume the frontline on this and move forward

In the immortal words of Al Bundy...Are you never happy?

The thing is pro athletes -- especially black athletes -- shouldn't even have to be in a situation where they feel they have to make these gestures. They shouldn't have to carry this burden. It should be up to our leaders -- the folks we put in offices -- to initiate these efforts. LeBron and others are out here partnering to provide poll workers in underserved areas and transform arenas into voting sites. We can't forget what those sistas in the WNBA have done, either. They've been leading the charge if we're honest. The athletes have been better leaders, in voice and in action, than actual people in positions to really do something.

But this shouldn't be their problem to solve.

But Kendrick the athletes have more clout because they control other peoples money.... The Flag came down in Mississippi pretty much overnight for two reasons... the NCAA ban and star athletes at the PWI (SEC) institutions in MS said they were not playing if the flag remained. Messing with folks money changes things... the Legislature found a loophole to get the flag down within a week...

Changing the state flag is easy compared to getting buy-in to fundamentally alter how an arm of the state operates, especially one like law enforcement.

Fox News' Tucker Carlson said that the vigilante 17 year old white kid who shot and killed 2 people last night in Kenoshia had to take matters into his own hands in order to try and help restore order. That's Carlson's spin on the matter. Can you believe it? You can't make this bull crap up!

That's because they see that White kid as a mad and frustrated Obie Taylor on the Andy Griffith Show. No kid that age should be carrying any type of weapon in public. I'm sure they are going to make up some lie like the White kid was bully by thuggish Black kids. White Confederate flaggers even said that the White boy who shot and killed those Black parishioners in Charleston, SC was a Christian, because he at least spent time to pray with them. White folks don't realize how sick and twisty their minds really are. Very despicable people without knowing they are.

I absolutely believe it!!! There just isn't much reason to call these folks a liar when they have proven time and time again they have little regard for black life.

John Carlos proud of athletes boycotting sports over racial injustice
OlympicTalk
NBC Sports Aug 27, 2020, 8:46 AM

John Carlos, the 1968 Olympic 200m bronze medalist who, along with gold medalist Tommie Smith, was kicked out of the Games for raising a black-gloved first on the podium, admires the athletes who boycotted competition Wednesday and Thursday over racial injustice.

“I respect the hell out of them,” Carlos, 75, said, according to Time. “Because you have to squeeze the toothpaste tube to get people to respond. And their boycotting lets the powers that be, whether it’s the NBA or any professional organization or corporate entity, know that they need to raise their voices. They need to get serious about the situation.”

.....

For the first time in a while, these players not only sacrified money for the bigger picture but they also caused the owners to lose money and pay attention to what they were saying instead of symbolic gestures

Mississippi had been trying to change the flag for 30+ years that I know of...but people weren't trying to hear it until they started messing with the money....You start messing with "the establishments money" change will happen....It might not be a change of heart....but change will happen.
Remember when those Missouri players were not going to play a game and the president of the university said he was going anywhere.....then a couple days later the SEC got involved and he was gone...

Every black player in the NFL about to be put on front street ..black players at pwis about to feel the heat to take a stand too!

White coaches and white players need to feel the heat MORE than black players. Where is Nick Saban? Where is Belichick? Where Sunshine? Where is Tom Brady?

Black people can't, and shouldn't, carry this burden. If we're talking about defeating racism and injustice, it's white folks' RESPONSIBILITY to respond. They created the problem. They need to be at the forefront of addressing it. NOW.

Again, that's a whole lot different than initiating widespread changes to policing. You have to appeal to white American values to do that. That's not gonna happen any time soon.

Kudos to the NBA players, baseball team, Namoi Osaka and others around that world that are taking a stance. Most of white america does not care, but there are those that do. When their kids are being killed by the state, they will feel differently.
