NFL's New Hair Rule

I can remember seeing this play from last year. It was kind of funny.

Should it be a yea or nea on the new proposal?

NFL owners will consider the length of hair flowing from helmets

At their meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., next week, NFL owners will consider a proposal to ban players from having hair flow from their helmets below their names on the back of their jerseys.

That might affect Polamalu?s image, but help him on the field. Two seasons ago, the Pittsburgh safety with the long ponytail had his hair grabbed by Kansas City?s Larry Johnson and was thrown to the turf after an interception against the Chiefs.

The rule banning long hair on the field was proposed by Kansas City. It does not require players to get haircuts, but does ?require them to tuck it up inside their helmets,?

The next rule that need to be looked at is the fitting of helments. The players now wear their helments so that will come off with the slightest contact. You know a helment is not fitted well when you can see them start to come off before contact and some with no contact. I guess it is going to take a fatal injury before something is done. It used to be a rarity for a helment to come off. Now you can expect to se no less than five per game.
 



ok ny they messin my eye candy!!! :rolleyes: but on the real, not tryna scream racism, but i have noticed more and more natural locs hangin from helmets. how convenient.
 
How about the NFL worry about keep their players out of jail for an entire season? So we avoid repeats of Vick and Pacman.

Lets try to get more minorities working in/on NFL teams. So we won't need a Rooney Rule.

Review the rules preventing kids from entering the NFL so early. So that they can understand why it is in place so we won't see another sad case like Maurce Clarett.

Just send them a memo instead of meeting about a new rule. The NFl has way more issues to worry about.

1. Rooney Rule won't make a difference until there are more African-American GMs and owners in the NFL.

2. Entering the NFL early? I think the rule entering after your junior season is fine. MLB has the same rule when it comes to college players as well.

3. I have no problem with the NFL hair rule. The league is not mandating that players cut their hair. Just not having it fall past their shoulder pads. I think we should be able to see the name on the back of the jersey if you ask me.

Plus, the NFL has always been strict when it comes to appearance. The league deploys officials to every NFL game to make sure all the players are dressed according to NFL standards.

They do have a rule in place for that, Clarett tried to beat that rule and took them to court where he won the first time but lost on appeal from the NFL. By that time he was already consider ineligible by the NCAA. He brought all that on himself by thinking he was ready to go to the NFL and got in with the wrong crowd.
 
I always wondered why not use the hair to throw them down...if they want to wear it that long might as well use it...

Warren Sapp started that helmet flying off stuff to be seen
 
The hair is a part of the uniform. You can seriously get injured if someone try to break your neck with all the hair sticking out.

Seems like every has locks now. They trying this BS like the NBA did.
Next will be facial hair.

Why must everyone be a "clone"?
 
How is racism a part of this topic? :confused: You saw what happened to Ricky and Troy when someone pull their hair. All the player has to do is tuck his hair under his helmet. Not cut it. It's that simple.
 
I don't know how this is a racialissue considering that many pro sports team have grooming rules. The Yankees do not allow players to have long hair or facial hair at all. I know when I played ball we were not allow to have long hair or facial hair. Our coach would make us cut our facial hair off before boaring the bus to head on road trips or we would not be allowed to travel. So I don't see anything wrong with the rule.
 
The rule is for the players benefit. If I were still playing their is no way in this world that I would not go out of my way to take an offensive player down by his hair. It would be out of pure hatred for my opponent, that was just the on the field mentality that i had as a player.

i wasn't tryna say its racial, but brought in the racial factor considering there are a lot more black football players wearing locs than ever before. maybe tucking hair in a helmet is not comfortable, i don't know. bottom line, it still should be a choice.
