Nextel's Direct Connect -- The Best Thing Going!

Where's my NEXTEL Direct Connect folks at?!

Can you agree?
Is this not the easiest way to communicate quickly with folks all over the US of A?!

I've had the service since Sept of last year...
Most of my partners are Connected...
and my company (Regions Bank) just signed a contact with them, so we now get discounts and more people are migrating to the Direct Connect world...

If you don't know --- you betta ask!
The Direct Connect work just like a 2-way walkie talkie...
but, you can communicate to anyone on the Nextel Network no matter where they are.

Just a simple *churp-churp*....
and you're in like flynn! ;)

I just ordered a newer phone the Motorola i60....

and I added the Mobile Email (Check your POP email from your phone) which comes with the Nextel Web Online (Basic) where I can browse 60+ sites from the phone for $5.00 a month!!

NO, I don't work for NEXTEL -- I don't get commission if you switch.. but, I'm saying... this is the wave of the future as far as Mobile phone communication. You better get some!
 



Well, what's the roaming charge? I don't have roaming with Sprint and I don't pay long distance. I was even able to use my phone in St. Thomas, Peorta Rico, and St. Marrtan. I have the ablility to surf the web, check email, Instant Message, and I can text message for a small fee.

What's up?

Most plans have... (including mine)

-No Roam
-No Long Distance
-Free Nights & Weekends
-Unlimited 2-way Radio
-Text Messaging (incoming only)

Plus you can add other luxuries such as...

-Mobile Email
-Internet
-Text Messenging (incoming/outgoing)

....I haven't traveled outside the states with my Nextel phone.
(though I have with Cincular)
 
Naaah, I'll stick with Sprint. I noticed that they got some charges for daytime use. :smh:

Can't beat Sprint right now. If they get a better package together. It might be interesting, but for now. :smh:
 
Sprint has the worst coverage out of all the providers here. You can go under a bridge and their coverage ducks out. I know most of em dont even work in the house.
 
Their cell phone coverage sucks and the price is still not low enough for me to change over. I have Verizon and get way more minutes than what Nextel has with the almost the same items you have listed without the 2-way and right now I really don't need it.
 
I use to work for Nextel, and the company mainly was for construction workes that is where the direct connect came in but they are slowing changing over to "normal" cell customers but thier plans right not are not the best. And if you go over mintues it will kill you. But once they get it right it will be the new hot isht

How the hell am I gonna get dropped calls riding down 285/85/75
in the heart of ATL? I tell you how...operating with a carrier like
SPRINT!

If it works for you...great! But, I'm in line with Unknown...
You can't get no dayum coverage with Sprint...then to top it off...
I can't even call certain numbers without it telling me the number is disconnected. These are home based numbers to relatives and friends that I call all the time...but Sprint says their number is disconnected. Customer Service is the worst. What's the point in hitting *2 to collect a minute worth of airtime...that minute could be life or death...IT SUCKS!

SPRINT SUCKS!

SPRINT knows there's a problem...I've made over 6 trouble tickets for dropped calls and untrue disconnected messaging notices and nothing has been done. My cousins in Illinois were experiencing the same problem and cancelled their arse with the quickness.

My contract is up with SPRINT...and My NEXTEL direct connect will be hooked up within the next few weeks. It's all good!

Understandably all cell phones drop out due to coverage areas @ some point, but you can't beat NEXTEL's free incoming calls...
NEXTEL's free direct connect with others who have it...and you can receive messages from any computer generated email or 2 way as long as you know the NEXTEL phone number or email address. YOU CAN'T beat it!

I gottah hellah people directly connected that I talk to on a daily basis...so its for me. Cancelled Bellsouth's 2way and local carrier service ...and MRA with MCI neighborhood plan. My phone bill dropped more than 75% instantly...and I won't even have to pay for my NEXTEL Phone or service...HA!;)
 
Agrees with Fiyah 100%. I have both Nextel, and Verizon, granted my job pays for my Nextel, the phone side of it sucks!!! Anybody on this board that has my Nextel number, and have called me on it, can tell you.

I almost always have to call them back. The Direct Connect is nice, but mainly I use that feature for work purposes. The service is too high for me to even think about getting for personal use.

With Verizon, I get unlimited nights, and weekends, 400 anytime minutes, 1000 Verizon wireless to wireless minutes, and internet, and text messaging for $39.99 a month. With taxes, and insurance ($4.99 per month), my bill is normally $48.00 per month.

Yep that what I got to, it's called America's Plan. I can go almost anywhere in America and it's all a local call. I even got a line for my mom for $20.00 extra.
 
Sprint is garbage when you get on the road. Get off the main interstates and you are toast with Sprint. They just don't have the type of coverage that I need. But if you live in amajor metro, I guess Sprint is pretty good. I notice that most who love sprint live in larger cities.

I went with Cingular because it can pick up a tower in most cases, even when you are in the middle of nowhere, and with the type of job that I have, having the phone actually work can be the difference between being in the woods all night, and getting someone to come and help me. My bill is usally about 60 dollars per month, and their rate plans are always compatible with most other companies. When they drop better plans, I usually swith to that better plan. I have 500 anytime, and 3000 night and weekend minutes, insurance, and all the usual perks, except the direct connect. Now I do wish I had that as well, and with my job, they are looking into getting us some Nextels. But I have to stick with Cingular.
 
I guess the general concensus is that SPRINT SUCKS....

....Nextel doesn't fit everyone's budget as far a minutes (unless you have a good group of people you know thats connected) and Cincular & Verizon ain't too bad at all.

Now, I'm gonna tell you... in my opinion...
I can agree with what is said. I've only heard bad things about Sprint's coverage and dropped calls. I've experienced Cell One and Alltel, but that was awhile ago. I think they have fell off when the circular market opened up.

However, Cell One is still getting cheese because some of the other cats still lease some of Cell One's towers. But, when things went DiGiTal --- that took money out of Cell One's pocket and put in into the customers! Now we have all these companies competing --- which is GREAT!

I've had/have Cincular (for my wife), which was still fine... no complaints --- it has the roll-over minutes and state-wide coverage so it works for her since her hometown is Hunstville.

But, I switched to Nextel at a slightly pricer plan to have more flexibility. Also, the ONE time Nextel had an phone outage -- my Direct Connect still worked! ;o)

So, for each - his own...

I'm still CONNECTED!!! :D

I have the Sprint service and I am happy with my coverage. My travels take me to the major metros and my service works just fine. The only city where I get crappy service is Atlanta. I don't know what the deal is with the ATL and Sprint. :confused: As a person that traveled quite extensively with my previous job, Sprint was the way to go because I have unlimited nights and weekends, no long distance in the Sprint service area and all of the other features you guys discussed.
 
The only problem that I have with Sprint is that they want me to send my entire phone in and they'll send me another one and nothing is wrong with my phone but my screen is cracked!! I have too many numbers in my phone to have to put them into another phone.
My coverage has been about the same to me. The one thing that got me on to Sprint is the fact that it worked at Alcorn when the other phones wouldn't (that was before Cingular put a tower near here last semester).

I've had Cingular and Cellular South. If Cellular South can get into some more markets, they could become a contender. They have some good plans, too. Their coverage is the only thing holding them back.
 
The reason your phones don't work well in big cities is because there are so many people trying to use their phones. A tower can't handle but so many calls in a area. I wish Panthro would come in here and tell yall how this works.

But, all cell phones have dead spots for different reason. All I know is when I'm on the road, I can use Sprint and not get charged long distance. If my signal goes out and I'm in an emergency, I can easily go in my phone menu and tell it to find the nearest pcs provider and accept the charges. Most of you just don't know how to operate your phone. That's all....

I have been from CA to Florida with my sprint phone and the only time it didnt' work was win we were in the MIDDLE of the Atlantic Ocean.

I have driven from Houston to Alabama with no problems on my Sprint phone.


and what Mike said about using analog if necessary, but I have not had to use it.

Sprint is good if you are in a major city... I had no problems when I lived in ATL or Nashville... but in Huntsville i get a lot of dropped calls. But it works good on all major interstates... I dont like verizon and cingular because the phones are ugly. Sprint has the best phones. My bill is around 45 dollars.. this is for unlimited nights and weekends, 500 anytime, and unlimited sprint to sprint minutes (keep in mind most people have sprint phones) so basically there is no way in HELL i can go over my minutes even if I tried to.
 
Umm, verizon carries all the same phones that Sprint does now with the exception of one. They both have the Samsung phones, along with T-mobile.

ughhhhhh remember that thing a few years ago we had here called "Alicia" :rolleyes: ....didn't none of you sprint folks had service. :what: But all of us Verizon folks didn't have a problem.:swink:

At that time we didn't know that we could change the phone to analog or select another service provider on our phone. Not until that happened did I find out about how I could've changed my phone settings. So, the same cell towers you were getting your services off, we could've got ours off, too. It was just a matter of going into the menu and changing the phone to the "Find Service" mode. You can't do that on your verizon phone can you?
