Is Net Zero Highspeed as good as DSL? Has anyone had problems with it?

Here's what you got to understand about NetZero highspeed - it's still dialup. That means it won't be nearly as fast as DSL or Cable because it's not fully digital. DSL & Cable run on digital lines that were designed for high-speed access. Phone lines are analog, and there are limits (there isn't even true 56Kbps speed though all modems these days are listed as such).
NetZero's highspeed works by using NetZero's servers and software to collect your webpages for you so it'll be on their system when you call for it. They send you the sites in compressed packets that your NetZero software decompresses to show in your browser. They also compress data such as graphics and email for faster transmission.
HOWEVER!!, NetZero's "high-speed" does NOT speed up file downloads, audio and video streams, or secure sites (such as banking, personal acct info, etc). So don't expect email attachments to come any faster. And there's NO guarantee you'll get all the sites you like any faster. They say they archive "frequently visisted" sites. If that's the sites YOU frequently visit, cool. If not, you may still get SWACpage as slow as ever....
I've never tried it, so I don't know how it works in real use. But that's what I gathered from reading NetZero's info on the service. If you just want to surf the net & check email faster, it may be worth your while (still cheaper than AOHell, MSCrap, etc
). But if your purpose for getting the service is to download stuff faster or get music & videos better, you STILL have to pay the serious dough for DSL or Cable.

I just thought of something: NetZero Highspeed probably won't help you check email faster either. Depending on what email you use, it's probably just the same. For example, if you're pulling in email messages through some program like Outlook or Eudora, then it won't be any faster (just like downloading files, I assume). But it might be faster if you're using NetZero's own email or a web-based email. Then again, web-based probably won't be any faster either cause NetZero's only going out and getting the most viewed pages, and your email sure SHOULDN'T qualify. If you value your privacy anyway

Net Zero has been my ISP for the last 3 years. I switched over to NetZero HiSpeed and their new Beta version. I honestly can't tell the difference......., I like Net Zero for the simple fact that its cheaper than many other ISPs. Eventually I will switch over to Bellsouth DSL because I do like to download files and stuff.

^That's what I wondered. It didn't sound like it'd help much, but I figured maybe they'd pull in a large number of "more frequently visited" sites. Or maybe it's just a way to get more money.
If y'all want a step up from dialup but not as expensive as DSL or Cable, BellSouth is offering FastAccess Lite.
It's DSL, but seems like it's been stripped down or limited in how fast it'll go. It's something like 256kb per second downstream (downloads, viewing web pages, etc). Nowhere near regular DSL (something like 1.5Mbs down), but it's still much better than dialup. The price is like $35 (if you have Complete Choice), so only $10 less than regular DSL. But hey, maybe that's all you need!
I personally wouldn't stress the extra $10 but it's a thought.
