That's a shame. Are the greek organizations, community leaders and parents getting involved in making things better? I don't understand how the gang problem has gotten so out of hand.
Im sure all greeks, etc.. are involved but it's only so much they can do.. I'm sure you know that. My chapter in Philly mentors about 90 young men ages 9- 18. However, way more than 90 need help.
You can have a chapter of 200 people and only 15-20 of them are doing everything. People have to stop asking if community groups and churches are doing anything when they themselves belong to churches and community groups and are not one of the workers in the organization.
Also, this is an institutional (ie hood) problem. These kids don't hardly have food at home and some of the parents are just ignant. I have a lot of hood azz friends here in Philly and some of the stuff they do or say make me want to cuss their azzez out. Ive seen everything from them not being able to afford bus fare to work but trying to buy $500 hover boards for Christmas..... I've seen mothers drop their kids off at a father's house .. the father has no job, no food and they mom didn't leave any food. Ive seem dudes call their parents for help and they don't give a fugg if their kids or grandkids eat. So you end up with kids fending for themselves, dropping out, using drugs, robbing, stealing, making babies and continuing the cycle. Then there is nothing for these people to do unless they want to move to China to work. They wake up at 25 years of age.. with criminal records, no training, no degrees, no decent work history, etc... and now they fuked and their kids are fuked and then... it just all starts over. One of my friends here told me he dropped out of HS cause the kids teased him every day about his dad being in the alley drunk and high. Now he realizes they were just taking their frustrations out him him because their parents were drunk and high too.. or their mom was selling coochie. A dude the other day spoke about how he had a football team with 80 boys. Of the 80, only 7 had a male at home and of the 7 only 2 had their real dad living with them. In today's society, everyone lives by.. "I can do what I want" and that has gotten us where we are. Even something like Cam Newton acting like a lil girl the other day is impressionable. He said.. "I'm a sore lose".. and .."who says your way is right?" smh but he grew up during Time Out and during the time that kids can talk back to teachers and not get snatched up. We are lost at this point.
