gotta schedule the middle and lower tier teams in the conferences at first.
Beat them to slowly build up the champions tournament seeding. Keep doing so and maybe we get an at large.

then over time recruit and beat the upper tier teams. Essentially it’s e West Coast Conference/Missouri Valley recipe
 
Charles has been preaching this strategy for 2 or 3 years. The issue is that mid majors in our geographic region will have to be willing to play us. Within 130 miles means less expensive travel to for TSU and Pv. We can afford to play a game with less revenue. , Schools like SFA, Sam Houston, Lamar don't want to play us because potential loss potential. Coach get fired for losing to HBCU.
 
I am 100% for the opening round games. Our programs get a legitimate shot at winning an official NCAA Tournament Game and post season win. Our regular season champions have to do a better job of finishing the job in the conference tournaments. There have been plenty of times that the best all around team with the prettier record didn’t make the NCAA Tournament due to poor showing at the wrong time in the conference tournament. Then we are left to see an SWAC Champion with a not so pretty record in the play in game or taking on #1 seeded monster while the our best team is in the NIT or at home.

As I said years ago when many were playing he race card in the play in game, “beat their ass and prove that the play in game is beneath the SWAC.” Many of times, we haven’t done that.

Fired for losing to TSU or flat out embarrassed even when our teams are THAT good. Lol

The team that wins the regular season and conference tournament might still end up in the First Four based on the NET rating of the individual team or the conference as a whole, per McClelland. The SWAC was ranked as the worst conference in America this year. The MEAC was next to last. So, it's best for the conferences to get better in totality instead of one or two teams. That way, AQs will have a better shot at getting a better seed.

Those mid majors will not play us now, what makes you think they will play swac schools if the conference improves overall? Even with improvement it will not show fully if the only out of conference teams that will play us are Power 5 conferences.

Also, I have been at games that were very winnable and the home cooking kills our teams momentum time and time again. Even if we get better will we get fair games?
 



If I’m correct, the maximum amount of non conference games teams are allowed to play not counting tournaments like the Maui Invitational is 12. So it should be mandated that we play no more than 6 ”money games” with the other six being against mid major and below opponents and one in season tournament. That should be more than enough to keep the books balanced as well as improve our ratings.

Is the conference out of the red yet? Are bylaws such that we still split this amongst the entire conference? 🤔

The MEAC has it right as far as their scheduling is concerned. Yes they still play money games but they also play mid-majors and regional games as well

The SWAC HAS to get uniform with their scheduling. You can't have some teams playing all money games in OOC and win 0-2 games while others are scheduling 2-4 sub D1 teams (which are worse than going 0-12 in money games) in their OOC slate.

The play in game does have its advantages but it doesn't help with conference growth because it can be a crutch (yeah the SWAC gets a cut of the money from the NCAA and featured in a stand alone game on national TV but teams will never strive for overall conference improvement if they know they can get into a play in game. They can just win that and be satisfied)
 
Does eastern seaboard(you can tell how old i am) schools have easier time scheduling mid major PWU opponents. i bet they do. Red necks down here

Per the commissioner, the conference is out of the red. Several conference deals have materialized, and office space has been purchased since the Duer Sharp days.

I got this from an old post, but the link no longer works:

The participating conference institution will retain sixty percent (60%) of the gross and forward the balance of forty percent (40%) to the conference office for inclusion in the conference treasury.

Before a distribution of revenues is made to the membership, the Conference office budget must be balanced for the year.

The Council of Presidents at each annual meeting will determine the amount to be distributed to the membership based upon criteria established by the Council of Presidents.

Schools are closer on the east coast and way more D-1 schools also to choose from.

Like someone said you have schools across the street from each other not playing cause some think it doesn’t benefit them so who loses out? The school that needs it.

Houston would rather pay Alabama State to come down than play TSU consistently in basketball
