This is why David Stern is sweating a lot more than Roger Goodell is right now.

Although this is a bad situation, David Stern has more control over his situation. All he has to do is fire the guy (well, the dude done resigned already) and that no name ref will slip on into oblivion, because he is not a know star and nobody really cares about him. He can easily fire any other refs involved and then this will blow over.

Goodell will be hard pressed to sit Vick down, since Vick really did not break any league rules and even if he does Vick notiriety and start power will keep this story hot for a while.

Goodell is in a no win situation, whether he suspends Vick or not.
Stern's situation is messed up, but the win for him is easy, Fire anyone associated with it and let the FBI handle there business and prosicute. Then put some "new" guidlines in for this situation. Sure some folks will point to this and say the refs cheat, but whats new, they been saying that for years anyway.

Re: NBA Ref target of FBI Investigation

JR

Didnt I tell you a long time ago that these games were fixed? why is it so hard to beleive that calls have been influeced by outside forces for so long. David Stern knows this is going on...as a matter of fact he is a part of it. He has been engineering the league for a long time. Its so good to see that this stuff is finally coming out. Hopefully Sterns misdoings with Jordan will also be uncovered.

Re: NBA Ref target of FBI Investigation

This is story is far bigger than Vick. Maybe, they should treat it that way.

Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy plans to plead guilty Wednesday in Brooklyn court

NEW YORK (AP) -- Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy planned to plead guilty in federal court on Wednesday to charges alleging he wagered on games he officiated, a person familiar with the betting scandal probe said.

Donaghy was to turn himself at Brooklyn federal court, the person, who was not authorized to speak about the case, told The Associated Press late Tuesday on condition of anonymity.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank told the AP that the league was informed Tuesday that Donaghy would plead Wednesday but was given no further information.

Donaghy's attorney, John Lauro, and federal prosecutors declined to comment. NBA commissioner David Stern said last month the referee's lawyer told the league his client was contemplating a plea.

Besides allegedly placing his own wagers, investigators also examined whether Donaghy provided inside information to others, including referees' schedules. The referee had a gambling problem and was approached by low-level mob associates through an acquaintance, a law enforcement official said.

The FBI first contacted the NBA on June 20 to talk about a referee alleged to be gambling on games, and the two sides met on June 21, Stern said last month. Donaghy resigned July 9 after 13 years as a referee, though Stern said he would have fired him sooner but was told it might affect the investigation.

Stern blamed a "rogue, isolated criminal" for the betting scandal that has devastated the league and threatened the credibility of every referee.

Donaghy was rated in the top tier of officials, Stern said, and there was nothing suspicious about the frequency of his foul calls. He was assigned to work in the second round of the playoffs, with his last NBA game coming during the Phoenix-San Antonio Western Conference semifinal.

No other NBA officials or players were expected to be involved in the scandal, which Stern called the "most serious situation and worst situation that I have ever experienced either as a fan of the NBA, a lawyer for the NBA or a commissioner of the NBA."

Others outside the NBA are expected to be charged.

Well David Stern and Thorn.

That NBA Dress Code was really THE problem that had to be delt with.
This can't possiably be as bad as grown men wearing jewlery and jersey's sitting on the bench.

David Stern and his peeps are in straight denial. They are trying their best to make this a isolated incident. Looks like he's about to get eggs on his face.

Donaghy to share info about other refs with feds

Former NBA official Tim Donaghy will reportedly give federal prosecutors information that will implicate other referees in some forms of gambling activity as part of his cooperation with government officials.

The offenses might not include any criminal activity, but could draw the ire of NBA commissioner David Stern, who has insisted the Donaghy situation was that of a "rogue, isolated criminal."

A report on 1050 ESPN Radio in New York said Donaghy will give prosecutors as many as 20 names of other NBA officials and will detail their involvement in some form of gambling activity. The specifics of the gambling allegations are reportedly believed to include betting in casinos.

"As far as we know, the misconduct was isolated to one individual, and we'll stand by that until proven otherwise," National Basketball Referees Association director Lamell McMorris told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan. "We'll review whatever information Tim Donaghy alleges, but as far as we're concerned, the only person whose conduct has been proven wrong is Tim Donaghy. We're dealing with truth, not hearsay, and the truth is that the only person who has pleaded guilty to any kind of wrongdoing is Tim Donaghy."

NBA spokesman Brian McIntyre said the league had received no information regarding the possibility of other officials being investigated.

Ex-NBA ref alleges players, coaches altered games

Disgraced basketball referee Tim Donaghy told investigators in the NBA betting probe that relationships among officials, coaches and players "affected the outcome of games," his attorney said. The league said the charges were unfounded.

Donaghy's attorney made the assertions in a letter filed in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn on Monday, in which he argued that his client should be sentenced to probation because he fully cooperated with prosecutors and has been undergoing treatment for his gambling addiction.

The attorney also suggested that Donaghy told investigators about the gambling activities of other NBA officials and about a referee that passed "confidential" information to an unidentified coach.

OK.
he waited an entire basketball season to start talking after they put his nad's in a vice.
This dude is toast.

If he was going to come up with stories on other's, he should have done it when he got busted.:lmao:

Anybody else feel's a "scorched NBA" strategy from this guy comming.
I'll bet he go back and say Jordan and Barkley ran a NBA player's betting ring before this is over trying to save his arse. :lmao:

I'm sure he's been talking, and had given up information on other referees and league officials before. Still, given the state of officiating and the way games are called, it's hard to argue against the first sentence of the article.

Ex Ref: NBA Fixed Games...........

Ex-referee Tim Donaghy blows whistle on NBA dirty secrets

Ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy told the feds two refs fixed the outcome of one playoff series - and that officials were told not to eject star players from games for fear of hurting ticket sales.

The bombshell allegations are contained in a court document filed Tuesday by Donaghy's lawyer. It describes the ?inner workings" of the NBA in which top league executives used referees to manipulate games.

Donaghy, who pleaded guilty in Brooklyn Federal Court to charges of betting on games he officiated, told FBI agents ?league officials would tell referees that they should withhold calling technical fouls on certain star players because doing so hurt ticket sales and television ratings," the document said.

Re: Ex Ref: NBA Fixed Games...........

Hmmm, maybe this explains why the Lakers are getting shafted, so the league won't be considered biased towards the Lakers.

Dayum you David Stern. Nothing but undercover longsharks, and to think the NBA wants to get a team in Las Vegas?! HUH!!:smh::smh:

Re: Ex Ref: NBA Fixed Games...........

This explain how the Lakers got passed the Spurs and Utah... then Dayum refs.. glad the refs can't do nothing about the Celtics beating LA arse...

Some games refs can't do nothing about, glad Boston is much better than LA, if not the refs would be at it again Jayrob...:smh:

Re: Ex Ref: NBA Fixed Games...........

Again this was in 2002.. So shame on the Lakers... Sacramento got screwed...

And now this nut (Jayrob) thinks the refs are trying to make up for something against the Lakers from 6 years ago.....:retard:

Like I said, everyday a new level of retardation from this cat...

Re: Ex Ref: NBA Fixed Games...........

Donaghy claims he was told that two refs who were ?company men? acting in the interest of the NBA conspired to extend a playoff series in 2002 to a seventh game.

:lmao:

Now, only one series in the entire 2002 playoffs went 7 games, and the game in question, Game 6 between the Lakers and Kings, has long been in question by observers.

Now Jayrob, since you have been on a crusade against the officiating, I take it you'll be the first one to start a petition to have the Lakers return their 2002 championship trophy and rings.

Re: Ex Ref: NBA Fixed Games...........

If this turns out to be true, My cries of foul play have finally been answered. Donaghy noted "an unspecified series" was extended to seven games by the league execs. The only series that year to go to seven was the Lakers/Kings matchup in the Western Conference Finals. Kings were shafted so bad (especially Game 6), I still talk about it -- and I wasn't a Kings fan.

You're right, that game was one of the most craziest games I've ever seen officiating-wise.

It's my understanding that there were other games and series as well, which went un-named.

And these ESPN houseboys, are trying everything they can to take attention away from the officiating and put ALL the blame on the Laker players. The NBA has lost a lot of credibility.

That's up to the NBA to take care of that, nevertheless it was flat out WRONG!!
But you forget about Game 5 when the officials made the wrong call late in the 4th quarter and gave the ball back to the Kings and they made a three point shot to win the game. I guess that game was fixed to, in favor of the Kings.
