NBA age limit coming soon

and............drafting is an inexact science. The point is at least you have a bigger body of work to judge with.

A body of college basketball work as opposed to pro ball. The game is different. Do you think Greg McDermott is better prepared for the NBA than Jabari Parker because he played all 4 years?

It's Doug not Greg, and Parker is the OBVIOUSLY more talented player. That was kind of an asinine question. Kinda like asking me is Adam Morrison better than Paul George because he stayed in school. No amount of time in school will make up for deficiency in athleticism and talent. It will however allow you to work on your particular skill-set and be the best player you can be.........IF you take the time to actually work on your game. Another great example is Marcus Smart, many said he would be a lottery pick last year if he came out, but he didn't. The knock on him was his shooting, so you would have thought that he would have improved it this year but he didn't. Now you as a GMAIL have 2 years of film and have to decide if he will ever be a consistent shooter, or will his jumper be forever broke.

You cannot develop an NBA game while playing the collegegame. Just won't happen. Marcus Smart will still be a lottery pick based on that fact. He wanted to stay to get a year playing PG. His shooting won't get much better until he is able to devote 10-12 hours a day strictly to basketball as opposed to having to go to class and have his contact with the coaching staff limited by NCAA rules.

This also keeps a lot of college players that can't hit a 12 foot jump shot out the nba until they ready. I get sick of all the bricks being tossed up in the NBA these days.

I came back to this thread just to make that point. Most of these dudes don't even have a mid range game

Hell don't even mention free throws.

AAU has helped, but ruined a lot of these kids. Most spend so much time playing AAU ball, but spend no time working on their individual game. Guys like JJ Redick and Nik Stauskas shot damn near 500 jump shots a day growing up.

They won't become better mid-range shooters in college.

Also, who shot the 12 foot jumper anyway? Even back in the day that was a rarity. LOL That's pretty much inside the lane. NBA mid-range is 15-22 feet.

BTW, Teams like the Rockets coach NOT to shoot mid range jumpers because they have analyzed statistically that it isn't more efficient than focusing on drives to the basket and 3s. I don't have their data so I can't dispute or support it either way.

And JJ Redick STRUGGLED his first few years in the NBA, too. Redick shot 39 percent from the field in his third year in the league.

They obviously think it is as simple as just shooting a bunch of shots to get better. 500 a day in the summer for a high schooler is not a lot now-a-days. Some kids in our AAU program put up 3-400 shots daily during the summer. I'm talking 9-12 year olds.

AAU gets a bad rap but if nothing else, the kids are more advanced at a younger age if they get into summer basketball. The cheating is where the problems are with folks holding their kids back in school or teams playing older players so that they can shine against younger competition.

That was due to him not being athletic and skilled enough to compete at the NBA level. That boy put in some work though and made himself into a good NBA player.

And he did it where? WHILE IN THE NBA. LOL 4 years with Coack K didn't get him there.

Four years with Coach K made him into one of the best players in Duke/ACC history and a lottery pick. JJ had to adapt his game to the NBA style of basketball. Coach K is a system oriented offense. JJ did most of his scoring off of picks and screens. He already had the jump shot to succeed in the NBA. Now if Indy would have drafted him and used him like they did Reggie Miller, we would be having an entire different discussion.

Playing against college kids made him a lottery pick. Same with Tyler Hansbrough. The greatest scorer in the history of the ACC can't start for the Raptors. And he played four years, too.

Shooting 30 something percent says he didn't.

Who else was he to play against in college? Also, everybody and their cousins knew Psycho T wasn't going to be a good NBA player. He is a undersized nonathletic big man.

LOL!

Why did the Pacers take him in the lottery then?

Once again, you can find examples to fit both sides of this debate. Heck, Florida has plenty of players doing great right now in the NBA after playing 3-4 years in college. I am actually surprised more top players haven't flocked to Florida given their success with getting successful players into the league. Casey Prather was like Marvin Williams during his freshman and sophomore years in college. He was all potential, but no performance. Unlike Marvin Williams, Prather stayed at Florida and developed a great offensive and defensive game. Now he will definitely be a lottery pick and have immediate success in the NBA.

They can only provide so many scholarships. Plus, the one and dones don't see the quick results at Florida.

As we know everything goes back to Florida.
