NASA... Where are The African American Engineers?

Sometimes,I like to watch the Mars rover coverage on the NASA channel. I see these engineers speak during press conferences on their duties and tasks on working together for the Spirit and Oppurtunity rover projects.

When I watch it, I see that Whites are the only one's participating in the projects,except for the lone Asian American who is chief on one of the projects, I have not seen any African Americans.

I don't know the percentages but I wonder how Blacks major in engineering? Here at work they call me the "conspiracy brother".

I don't see any injustice here,but it's just my feeling that many Blacks do not go into physics or other engineering fields.

When I was in college I came across this book (The Black Book) with nothing but Black inventors. It was to my surprise that Black people had the majority of the patents in the late 1890's and early 1900's. After the 1920's patents by Blacks began to decrease. After the 60's up until now Black are almost virtually invisible in the technology fields. We don't dominate the technology fields like we did in the earlier part of America's history.

SO I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED?

Maybe our attention is diverted elsewhere, such as entertainment and sports.

Or maybe our people are just to busy trying to be the HARDEST MOFO on the block.

We are naturally gifted scienticfically.

Somehow I feel that if the interest in science and technology was high in our people,we could advance this world far more than where it is today.

There are a bunch of PV and SU Engineers here at JSC.
 
They're probably tons of African American Engineers working for NASA. They may not look like you and I, though.
 
Although many brother and sisters are now beginning to major in Science and Engineering we are still shut out of major positions in our field. It is good though to see alot of african americans coming into the science and technology field.

So with all these Brotha's and Sistah's with engineering degrees from PVU, SU, TSU and HOWARD working at NASA and JSC and I don't see them getting any pub on the NASA channel ....so it is my conclusion that ..

LOL @ pbla.

I know for a fact that SU always has a big engineering class graduating, so I'm sure some of them are employed w/NASA.
 
I interned at NASA JSC back in the day and saw quite a few black engineers working there. I know before the current lull in the economy the space industry in Houston was sucking up graduates from PV...too bad I graduated just as they stopped lol.


Now working at Boeing in St Louis so far I can say that we are kinda spread thin here. I haven't been to every site yet but so far it seems to be nothing like it was in Houston.

Yes. I have run into alot of brother and sisters working for DOD or NASA and some of them have some good positions but we still got a long way to go. Sometimes when you go to meetings and conferences it may be 10 out of 100.

SUfinest, naaah... I ain't to upset, just disappointed our people don' t get the props when it comes to creative thinking and reasoning.
 
There are plenty of black engineers at MSFC (Marshall Space Flight Center,) here in Hunts-vegas! At least six of them are frat brothers of mine in my local chapter. And with the partnership that NASA Marshall has with AAMU and Oakwood College, the numbers will only increase.

I see and interact with these outstanding brothers and sisters on a daily basis at Marshall.


When someone answers the age old question here in Hsv/Madison County as "as a matter of fact, I AM a rocket scientist," they ain't jokin'! There everywhere!
