Nope....went to Bayou Classic. If I was going I would choose one out of the three. The issue is our schools can't afford to go and what by our schools is by the time students pay for a student sponsored trip to the Classic and then Houston they fresh out of money.
Man yall speaking like students got loot....LOL....
I know that some (maybe not all) of the SWAC colleges Student Council will raise money to sponsor buses to games; I know Prairie View has something called a "Gold Member Club" that has buses (my youngest was in the GMC when she was a freshman and sophomore). I know UAPB used to have a "spirit" bus and students would travel to away games. The monies came from Student Council and/or Golden Ambassador fundraisers (with approval from UAPB of course); also, our alumni chapters would chip in their dimes so the students could travel. There would be sign-up sheet located in the Student Union and once it was filled, that was a wrap. I know one year, to help offset the costs, students were asked to pay $10 and the rest came from the school. That's how a lot of students were able to go to the Gateway Classic games.
It's given knowledge that the Bayou Classic is
every Saturday after Thanksgiving, has been that way for over 40 years, so plan early. Perhaps the Student Council at Grambling State could raise funds at the start of the year for a student bus. If GSU happens to be undefeated, the next step could be to decide on the Bayou Classic or Celebration Bowl (let the students decide which). If funds are raised and all approval and requirements are met, it's a first-come, first serve thing and you roll out. That's how it used to be and is sometimes done at UAPB.
Also, a lot of in-state students receive very large amounts of money from refunds, sometimes enough to put toward the purchase of a car. If the kids wanted to go, believe me, they'd find a way to do so.
