My Grandparents 50th Anniversary

For those of you who have grandparents, parents, or anyrelatives that have celebrated their 50th Anniversary, I need some advice and/or suggestions:

My grandparents will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on October 3rd......every year during the weekend of their anniversary, they drive to Augusta to visit my uncle (my grandmother's brother) and his wife.......now keep in mind that my grandparents are country and set in their ways; in fact, let me share with you a convo between my grandmother and I (please bear with the slang; after all, we are country!) :

Me: So what you and granddaddy doing for ya'll anniversary?

Grandma: Probably going to Augusta

Me: Augusta?? Dang, won't ya'll leave the state of Georgia for a change!!

Grandma: Now you know me and yo granddaddy is old and he drive too slow, plus you know my nerves ain't as good as they use to be.

Me: Well I asked because I'd like to send ya'll on a cruise.

Grandma: A cruise?? Da hell?

Me: You heard me.....a cruise

Grandma: You got money for that?

Me: Don't worry bout that, grandma......I just wanna know are ya'll willing to go?

Grandma: I'm sorry, but there are two things I ain't doing: Betty (that's her name) ain't gittin on no boat, and Betty ain't gittin in no air!

As you can see, she made it perfectly clear that she ain't flying or boat riding!!

So I guess my question is what kind of celebration ideas do you have for some old country folks that have been married 50 years, and refuse to leave the state of Georgia?

We're dealing with the same kind of issues with my grand-parents. My granddaddy(89) doesn't like to fly, but his health won't let him take long car trips anymore. And my gramma hates to fly, but she hates to ride, too. And we've got to get them from Jackson to San Antonio in two weeks... So I feel your situation....

But I say do this: Do whatever it is THEY feel comfortable doing. And while a cruise may be a wonderful gift, they may not feel comfortable trying something new, after this long in their lives. So.....let them do what they enjoy doing. If they wanna go to Augusta, then let 'em go. Or take 'em(whatever the arrangement is). Just as long as they're happy. That's all that matters.

And back to our situation. My granddaddy'll have to fly. But my gramma wants to come to Dallas and stay with us for awhile, then we'll go to San Antonio. And my folks will fly and take my granddaddy. So it'll all work. I hope.......

Now I see where you get it from.....:D My suggestion would be do something in Augusta. Have your family members and some of their friends come to Augusta. You guys find a place and give them a dinner/banquet deal. Something simple and I'm sure they will enjoy. A little fuss being made but not alot.

Now if you wanna sponsor us on a cruise......;)

Now that's what I've been thinking about doing, but not in Augusta........my folks live in Columbus......besides, my folks ain't driving to Augusta! Hell, I haven't been there since I was 12!! But I just wanted to get them to a little change of scenery, that's all.......look like I'm gonna have to stick with having something in Columbus for them because they won't drive to Atlanta........I've been here for 5 years and they've only been here to visit me.......ONCE!!

And what gets me is that they really are not that up in age.....my grandmother is 66 and my grandfather is 70. They look pretty good for an old country couple!!
