My formal apology to Prayer Board readers

yeah TP it's not in spite of being a scientist I believe the Bible, one of the reasons I believe
Is BECAUSE I am a scientist.

Dacon,

I never understood why you went this long with JayRob. Maybe once a year, I would pop in and read something but I never saw anything but one main theme: JayRob wanted answers.

So true. The bible doesn't supply accurate answers to questions that we KNOW to be true today. Do evil spirits cause diseases? Does the sun revolve around the earth? I it okay for a father to sell his daughter to her rapist?
I could list dozens of other biblical inconsistencies, yet folks still encourage me to accept information from a book a I KNOW to contain false information? How ethical and honest would that be? Not very.

I am amazed by God everyday and as a scientist, I can truly say that the only thing a scientist really knows is that we know nothing. The more we learn or figure out, the more we learn about what we don't know.

This is my main point. As a young species on this planet, we DON'T know much at all. Some just think they do.
The main question I posed to any religious person is to show me "how they KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that THEIR god is the "one true god". Is this not a fair question?
To this point, not one person has presented logical evidence substantiating their claims. Not one. That speaks volumes.
You're right though. JayRob wanted and still wants sincere and credible answers to hard and difficult questions.

I love JayRob.. Didn't know his beliefs when I first met him but we all know that God is God...and no matter how dumb Jayrob thinks people were back then, they still had so many things right. Even today with million dollar equipment, we can't solve certain things or answer all questions.

The bible is not completely wrong, but it's nowhere near being infallible either, but folks have such a hard time admitting this.
In all actuality, IF there is this "all-powerful and omnipotent" being or entity, I've been actually DEFENDING his/her/it's honor to the n-th degree.
How have I been doing this? By pointing out the obvious errors and fallacies in religious books claiming to have been inspired by such a being (if there is one).
No all-knowing being would never have inspired men to write down words and phrases we know today to be totally false. what creator would ever claim that the sun revolves around the earth? We learned in elementary school that this is false. But folks want to rake JayRob over the coals for thinking this way and asking such questions?

I don't deny that there's NOT an all-powerful being, but where's the evidence beyond a doubt that he's the author of the bible or any other religious book? That's all I'm asking. That's all I've been asking.
Perhaps it's not good to be inquisitive when the questions are not popular, but that's how one learns to grow and maintain credibility.

God is not through. God still lives and works. God still creates, modifies, eradicates, and destroys and if anyone ever thinks we will truly understand God, we are foolish. We understand that God is great and that is all we need to understand. I love the bible. No matter, how, when or where it was written, there is no greater book on earth.

The thing is, how does one KNOW that "their" god is involved in a particular situation before giving him credit? Does this imaginary being get credit ONLY for good things? If one's going to give him credit for the good things, one should be ready to give him credit for the evil and terrible things as well and not place the blame on the back of a supposed creature called satan.

I can always turn to those dumb people who wrote it before we knew the world was round and be astounded by their gifts and how they get me though everything today. Life is a parable.

Again, the bible is not all in error. Even though there's strong evidence to believe that it was plagiarized from the writings of previous cultures due to the fact that there's no historical evidence of a king Solomon, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes contain good advice for people in general, but so does other so-called holy books from other religions.
The bible doesn't hold a monopoly on good advice so get it wherever you can.

Now stop talking to JayRob.

Glad you stopped to chime in. You made some good points.
Now for this last point, I know why you're encouraging Dacon to stop talking. Oftentimes he made no sense and he ended up with an "L" many times in the process.
Just joking Dacon.
I really post to get folks to think outside the proverbial box and to squelch religious bullying with logic.

But you know not everybody is bred on logic. If we were, a lot of things would be scrutinized.

dacontinent, it takes a great man, no matter what the faith or core philosophy to realized when it's time to go. How long did this fire and ice debate go on overall? At least you knew when to leave well enough alone.

Now we all know that's NOT gonna happen in the strictest, especially when you're as convicted and moderately hopeful as dac is/was. LOL

It's quite interesting that some would rather focus on the person, JayRob, rather than prove or disprove the message. Something about this is quite telling.

Could that be because your "message" is rather transparent and empty?

Why are you surprised by this? This is largely the case among the convicted, no matter what their convictions are.

Could that be because your "message" is rather transparent and empty?

Which message is more empty and transparent: that microscopic organisms cause diseases or that evil spirits are the cause?

Out of compassion, I made it real simple for you to answer. Keep in mind that your bible says that evil spirits are the cause of diseases. Keep in mind that your bible claims that the sun revolves around the earth. Now again I ask, which message is empty and transparent?
I could list hundreds more empty and transparent tales, discrepancies and inconsistencies from the same book, but this isn't the place and time just yet.

Dr. H.,

Been gone for several months "but watching"

Nothing, wrong with apologies, sometimes we have to take the "High Road and there are times we hav to take the Low Road"

Like someone said, "there are times the same topic comey up year after year after year" I just pop in and pop out to see what new.

Col. 4:5-6, instructs us on how to deal with unbelievers.

When you quote the bible and other's do not accept it, there is nothing to apologize about

Any Tom, Dick or Harry can quote the bible, but where the rubber meets the road is when they're challenged to support those quotes with substantial evidence.

I truly believe the 2 go together in some shape or form. God is God...just because we find little details that explain things to us does not mean that God didn't use them or make them for his purpose.

that's why when I made my thread about Deut 28 it was for Bible scholars & believers. I wanted understanding from them because the word said just what you said in the OP. They will just try to cause confusion because they have no faith.

Tony, that's a mouth full. I am in agreement with your statememt. I am not a scientist, but have been around enough years to look at what the bible said, look at what was recorded in the bible a tousand years ago. With that said, I have to backup and give God the glory.

I can't argue with the following, that was mentioned in the bible, but later confirmed by scientist. Not that God needed their confrimation.

Earth is held in place by an invisiable force [gravity] Jobe 26:5, later discovered in 1650

Blood of animals carry disease's, Lev. 17, later discovered in the 17th century

The earth is "round" not square as some has implied, Isa 40:22, later confirmed in the 15th century

Isa. 40:22 used the word "chuwg, circle of the earth" mean circle, circuit, compass, meaning the earth was round. :D

Quaratine for disease control, Lev. 13. This was not discovered until the 17th century.

I can go on and on and on. Most of the time when indivduals, such as some we know, have a problem with the word. Thru reseach, they have experienced something in their life, that has cause them not to trust.

If you're finding little details, then what can you base your claims on? Faith is not evidence and it doesn't require evidence.

Science and religion as described by Western standards do not and cannot coexist. Teaching alchemy and creationism in schools in our time and day would be disastrous for Christianity and Islam.

I can't argue with the following, that was mentioned in the bible, but later confirmed by scientist. Not that God needed their confrimation.

It's not that you can't argue with the following, it's that you WON'T, perhaps due to a bias inbred from many, many decades of being taught from the bible and told how accurate it is. The bible is one of the most inaccurate books known to man.

Earth is held in place by an invisiable force [gravity] Jobe 26:5, later discovered in 1650

Job 26:5 says the following, "The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them. Not one thing is mentioned about the earth being held in place by nothing.
As a matter of fact, the bible teaches that the sun revolves around the earth; it teaches that the earth is flat and most religious folks up until modern science came along, taught that the earth was flat and that one could fall off the edge if they sailed too far.

Blood of animals carry disease's, Lev. 17, later discovered in the 17th century

I presume you're speaking about Leviticus 17:13-14, where it says the following: “Any Israelite or any foreigner residing among you who hunts any animal or bird that may be eaten must drain out the blood and cover it with earth, 14 because the life of every creature is its blood. That is why I have said to the Israelites, “You must not eat the blood of any creature, because the life of every creature is its blood; anyone who eats it must be cut off.”

If one would carefully read, the above verses had nothing to do with forbidding Israelites from drinking blood for health reasons. Not one time is health mentioned. As a matter of fact, microscopic organisms isn't mentioned one time in all of the bible. Why? Because it's authors were ignorant of this fact.
Leviticus 17 forbids drinking blood because it's considered the life of the animal. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Drain the blood from any creature and guess what? They'll die.

The earth is "round" not square as some has implied, Isa 40:22, later confirmed in the 15th century

Dr. H, the bible claims the earth was square. LOL!! Isaiah 11:12 says, "And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth."

The bible seems to teach that the earth has four corners as well as being flat. Sounds like a contradiction.

Isa. 40:22 used the word "chuwg, circle of the earth" mean circle, circuit, compass, meaning the earth was round.

Ancient astronomers could determine that the earth was round by observing its circular shadow move across the moon during lunar eclipses. T
here is some suggestion that the Egyptians knew of the earth's spherical size and shape around 2550 B.C. (more than a thousand years before Moses). The Greek philosopher Pythagoras, who was born in 532 B.C., defended the spherical theory on the basis of observations he had made of the shape of the sun and moon.
If this information was known by educated Greeks and Egyptians during biblical times, its use by Isaiah is nothing special.

Quaratine for disease control, Lev. 13. This was not discovered until the 17th century.

This is not true. Ancient Egyptians practiced health laws long before the Moses figure came on the scene. They were known to place dung on wounds and isolate those who had illnesses. They had medical standards that were advanced for their time.
Just by chance, where did the Moses story originate? In Egypt.

I can go on and on and on. Most of the time when indivduals, such as some we know, have a problem with the word. Thru reseach, they have experienced something in their life, that has cause them not to trust

Perhaps it's because the lack of evidence is more convincing than the stories supported by nothing more than faith.

Remember Moses lived with the Egyptians - I was not taking anything away from Egyptians. In fact I posted the information and knowledge of the Egyptians three or four years ago. So, you are not posting anything new!!!!!!!

For all intent purposes Moses was an Egyptioa per se' that's where he gained his knowledge, I have posted that also three or four years ago..

The four corners, mean the four points on the compass [N, E, S, W]

If you look out your window, as most of the anciends did, the earth look flat, does it not. That's all that means.....

If this Moses lived and grew up with the Egyptians, why give credit to some sky-god for information ACTUALLY given by the Egyptians and not some sky-god?

Dr. H, no matter how you try and slice it, a circle has no corners. LOL!! This alone clearly shows that the biblical writers wrongly thought the earth was flat and square. Corners are found nowhere in something circular.
If you can find a corner in a circle, please show it.
