1.BCC- the Cats are back and they were clicking on all cylinders last week.Suber is a star and they have a wealth of speed on both sides of the ball.An undefeated season is possible for the cats.
2.TSU-If the Tigers can get consistent play from their qb and defense TSU will have plenty to celebrate.They will make some mistakes but if they are able to coorect them before conference play they will contend for the OVC.
3.ASU-Who would have thought with all of the offseason turmoil that they would have played at such a high level against a highly respected FAMU football team.From offense to special teams the Hornets were able to make big plays and pull off the upset.
4.MSU Donald Hill Eley have the Bears on the prowl and BCF had better take notice.MSU showed alot of character by not only beating a team that has dominated them in Towson but by coming from behind to do it.The defense was able to step up when it needed to and the offense is as potent as ever making big plays when needed.
5.NCA&T-A&T is back to doing what it does best by playing hard nosed defense.The team appeared to be in great shape and it showed.Curtis Deloatch is a superstar and if there is a team capable of knocking off the Cats it's the Aggies.
6.ALCST- An impressive win this weekend for the Braves who will contend for the eastern division title.If they can play with more consistentcy they could have a 10 win season.The defense will need to step up if they want to make it to the postseason.
7.SU-The Jags looked damn good defensively vs MVSU which is what will probably carry them this season.They had some nice plays offensively as well but they will need more consistency from the qb position if they want to compete for the SWAC title.
8.GSU-Looked like a fish out of water vs SJSU but vs SWAC foes they have been nothing short of dominant.The Gmen actually kept it close with their defense vs SJSO but could not generate anything closely resembling an offense last week.I expect them to bounce back and prove themselves as the team to beat in the SWAC.
9.TXSU-This team has the talent to compete for the conference title but the coaching is suspect.The question is rarely whether or not they have the talent to compete but whether or not Bill Thomas will coach them out of a title contention.They won big over PVSU but they will need to prove themselves vs tougher SWAC foes if they want to have a decent season.With all of that said a win is still a win so they are a top 10 team for now.
10.HU-Although the Bison have not played they have been able to fill some holes on both sides of the ball as well as special teams.Overall the Bison will have good team speed but next week they travel to Houston to play a scrappy TXSU who came from 28 down last year to lose by 3.
10.JSU-The Tigers are a team loaded with talent on both sides of the ball but have some legitimate concerns in the coaching area.JSU has one of the most explosive passing attacks in 1aa but their coach tried to force the run when it was apparent that it was not working.If he rights this ship ie his coaching philosophy look for the Tigers to bounce back.
